The stage in May 1971, which has been legendary to maniacs due to the live test introduction of songs from the album “IV”, which was about to be released. This period was originally scheduled as a short-term Scandinavian tour, but in the end, after the first two shows, all tour plans were canceled, making it a valuable period in every sense. did. It is said that the number of shows was limited, as well as the number of sound sources.
In such a situation, it became a situation that Copenhagen on May 3rd, the first day, was the only choice, but after all, the super rare repertoire called “Gallows Pole” is heard in “Four Sticks”, as well as the sound quality itself Since it was an audience recording that was easy to hear, everyone was satisfied with the sound source of this day, and since the beginning of this year, “COPENHAGEN 1971”, which is continuing to sell bestsellers as a new definitive edition, has just been released.
Rather, it would be impossible for a sound source other than Copenhagen to appear in May 1971. begin to whisper between Not only did such rumors fly around, but the tracklist that was recorded on the tape was also announced. Maniacs were naturally enthusiastic about the shocking information that began to be whispered around spring, but as expected, there was no sign of it being released. At one point, I was even discouraged, saying, “Is it just a rumor?”

It’s a record of a very precious time, so it’s no exaggeration to say that it was a maniac excavation just because it existed, but the quality of the audience recording is still worrisome. When you open the lid, it’s so easy to listen to that it’s hard to believe that the tape has been sleeping for 50 years. . It’s not a vintage quality where you can’t even grasp the details of the performance with a roar (at all!), but it’s a bit of a hiss, but it’s still at a level that you can hear.
However, when it appeared on YouTube, the pitch was 30% lower, so we adjusted it accordingly. It seems that many people were the first to ask about the Holy Grail, which finally appeared, but there must have been more than a few people who felt uncomfortable with the pitch. It is a long-awaited historical excavation, and if it comes with a limited press CD release, there is no omission.
Interestingly, looking at the photos from the day, both Robert and Jimmy were on stage in the same fashion as they had in Copenhagen the day before, and at first glance it is almost impossible to distinguish them from Copenhagen. However, the background is clearly different from the previous day, so you can tell it is a different day. It was a ZEP-like appearance before the clear stage costumes like those after 1973 were prepared.

The Odense performance finally took off the veil, but from the beginning, the unrestrained and creative stage unique to the release of “IV” was fully opened. It can be said that ZEP’s performance changes when it changes one day, and first of all, in “Dazed And Confused”, Jimmy incites the audience with bowing, and Jimmy plays a bow at a tempo that matches it. In addition, Robert sings the lyrics “echo with laughter” of “Stairway To Heaven” with a higher melody than the record, and all of them are shining with their free and unbound performances unique to this period.
And after all, two rare repertoire songs that were performed the day before. It is now known that “Gallows Pole” has been tried on stage several times since then, but the second take live version of “Four Sticks” has finally appeared. Moreover, the performance that clearly increased the destructive power compared to the previous day, which was the first show, is really impressive. If you keep playing like this, you may become a thing. If you think about it, starting with the appearance of a 10-inch boot containing the take of these two songs in Copenhagen, “Four Sticks”, which maniacs have been listening to the same sound source for a long time, will discover a new live version in 2022. is too emotional.
Speaking of destructive power, Robert’s screaming is also attractive because it captures the bursts unique to May 1971 everywhere. It seems that “Four Sticks” was short-lived because it required not only the performance but also Robert’s explosive singing method, but that’s why the explosion of this day is really amazing. In addition to that, the improvisational lyrics of “Black Dog”, which can be said to be unique to 1971, are really unrestrained singing, and the scream at the end of the “Whole Lotta Love” medley is also spectacular.
Unfortunately, the recording stopped at the end of “Communication Breakdown”, and it is presumed that a song like “Misty Mountain Hop” was probably performed as well as the previous day, but even the recording up to that point alone is a chunk of listening. The content that makes me want to say is just dumbfounded. As expected, there is only one day after Copenhagen. Please enjoy such a literal Holy Grail to your heart’s content with a limited press CD. This is the long-awaited sound source that maniacs all over the world wanted to hear. Excavation of that too valuable sound source, pay attention to Odense’s audience recording!
