Kiss / Definitive Budokan 1988 / 2CDR+1 DVDR / Shades
Live at Budokan, Tokyo, Japan 22nd April 1988
KISS in 1988 realized the first visit to Japan without makeup. Introducing the world’s first appearance live album and a big standard pro shot decision board set that allows you to experience the scene at its finest.
This work contains two records born from one show. “April 22, 1988: Nippon Budokan” It is a 3-disc set with DISC 1-2 for the best audience recording and DISC 3 for multi-camera pro shots. Since their first visit to Japan in 1977, KISS has made 12 visits to Japan, and this year will be their 13th visit (is this the last time?). Among them, only two times, “1988” and “1995”, were without makeup. Moreover, 1988 was also the first visit to Japan in 10 years. First, let’s look back on such a monumental schedule and check the position of the show.
・ April 16: Nagoya City Public Hall
・ April 18: Osaka Castle Hall
・ April 20: Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium
・ April 21: Nippon Budokan
・ April 22: Nippon Budokan ← This work
・ April 24: Yoyogi National Stadium
And, putting aside the classic pro shots, the main focus of this work is the audience recording of DISC 1-2. It is an original recording that this work is the first appearance, but it is a superb sound that blows away its rarity. This is really great. I don’t mistake it for a sound board in terms of timbre, but I want to mistake the strong core and fine details. Even a slight hall sound is absorbed, but it is crystal clear and transparent, giving thickness and dynamism to the performance sound, and it does not become muddy or cloudy.
“It’s only natural that it’s become such a great recording.” In fact, this recording was made by a legendary master in the history of Japanese recording. His skill is said to be the prestigious Kinney anomaly, and he is a famous recording artist who left a large number of historical super-name recordings such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Stones, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, etc. mainly in the 80’s. That’s it.
A no-makeup KISS that shines metallically is drawn with that legendary sound. “Tears Are Falling”, which was cut in the classic pro shot, is also a delicious true full set. Let’s put things in order here.
● 70’s (9 songs)
・Emissary from Hell: Cold Gin / Black Diamond / Strutter
・Hell Corps: I Was Made For Lovin’ You / Shout It Out Loud / Detroit Rock City

* Note: “★” marks are songs that were not broadcast on TV. “*” mark is a limited song only for this tour.
“The quality is also superb.” Various generations have been known only for large classics, but the master of the gift board “BUDOKAN 1988 2ND NIGHT”, which has been very popular as the best master, is used. The vivid coloring and noiseless image beauty, which was called “like a laser disc drop”, is still unsurpassed, and it is one of the champions who reigns at the highest peak.
It’s been more than a quarter century since I started wearing makeup again, and the no-makeup KISS is becoming more and more valuable. It is a gorgeous set where you can experience the best performances in Japan during its heyday. Not only is it the best memory for Japanese people, but it is also a definitive 3-disc set that will be a treasure of the “CRAZY NIGHTS World Tour” worldwide. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.
★ A 3-disc set with DISC 1-2 featuring the best audience recordings from the “April 22, 1988: Nippon Budokan” performance, and DISC 3 featuring multi-camera pro shots. The video version (DISC 3) is the highest peak master of a large classic TV broadcast, but what is more surprising is the main full recording (DISC 1-2). It is a new excavation recording that has been released for the first time in Japan, and it is as frightening as DISC 3, which is a completely official grade. It is a cultural heritage from Japan where you can experience a full show with plenty of precious no-makeup masterpieces, including “Tears Are Falling” that was cut on TV broadcasts.
