Eric Clapton’s Japan Tour 2023 ended with great success after completing all 6 performances. This week, in addition to the superb sound quality press 2CD “Budokan 2023 1st Night” on the first day, the high-quality original master for 5 days excluding the final day will also be released urgently! First of all, it is this work of the second day. In the review of “Budokan Day 1” last week, our shop guessed the significance of this performance in Japan and the state of mind of Clapton. As if to support that speculation, no matter how hard the electric version of Layla was on the body, Clapton played without change until the third day. From the 4th day performance, there was an unexpected change that Cocaine set in instead of Layla, but since there are many songs that have room to insert ad libs, including the opening Blue Rainbow, enjoy the difference in Clapton’s play every day. The fact that we were able to do this was the biggest attraction of this performance in Japan. Of course, this work is also our original master, recorded in stereo with high sound quality, and if you enjoyed “Budokan Day 1”, this work is also recommended. The recording position is the arena A9 block, which is slightly to the right of the stage, but it is a good position and has excellent sound quality. Please get the second day, which was full of charm different from the first day, as soon as possible.
[2nd day performance with higher performance quality than the first day! ]The selling point of this second day performance is that Clapton’s play quality has improved from the first day. The opening Blue Rainbow was the premiere in the world on the first day, and there was also a dangerous phrasing with Clapton’s tension. There was also the awkwardness, and there was also the mistone. However, on this second day, in addition to the theme phrase being very stable, the ad-lib playing part was very smooth. The slow hand playing style that descends like a flow with fast playing is also explosive. In that respect, I think that the play of this day can be said to have fully brought out the original charm of this song. The crying phrase dedicated to the late Jeff Beck is clear!
The highlight of the first half, I Shot The Sheriff, also incorporates fast phrases like rapid-fire guns at times, and the phrase composition is strong, full of Clapton’s poetry. And before Sam Hall in the acoustic set, Clapton clearly commented, “Dedicated to Jeff.” Good for the opening song, good for this song, Clapton is probably suffering from the loneliness of losing his friend Jeff Beck, who can be said to have been eating the same rice from the 1960s. It is a song that I would like you to listen to with that in mind. Also, the insertion of “Blue Shadow” in Tears in Heaven, which commemorates Gary Brooker, was due to the unison of the organ and guitar on the first day, but it changed to the organ only on this day. After all, this one comes nicely as the image of the original song.
And above all, the most valuable thing is that Layla’s performance quality at the end of the regular set has improved significantly since the first day. Clapton has been in charge of the intro’s 7 consecutive phrases for a long time, but it was the first day that the dangerous play was exposed because the fingers did not move as expected, probably due to old age. However, on this day, the intro was left to Doyle, and Clapton devoted himself to the code work, which was successful and put it into the song smoothly (this would be since George Terry in the 70’s). As a result, the voice came out well and sang without any problems, and the band as a whole was a tight performer. The take on the first day is a huge difference. Clapton has quickly improved the points to be reflected and improved the play quality. This is professionalism. Regarding Clapton’s solo in the latter part, I was working hard until the first day, so I can listen to the same level of tasteful play on this day. For those who were shocked by the surprise of the set list on the first day, I would like you to listen to this even more fulfilling second day. It is the second day performance where the meaning of this set list is deeper.

【 エリック・クラプトン2023 武道館2日目公演の高音質オーディエンスマスターも登場！】
全6公演の全日程を終え、大盛況のうちに幕を閉じたエリック・クラプトンのジャパン・ツアー2023。今週は初日の極上音質プレス2CD「Budokan 2023 1st Night」に加え、最終日を除く5日間の高音質オリジナルマスターも緊急リリースとなります！まずは2日目の本作です。先週の「Budokan Day 1」のレビューにおいて、当店は今回の日本公演の意義とクラプトンの心境を推察致しました。その推察を裏付けるかのように、エレクトリックバージョンのLaylaがいくら体にきつくとも、クラプトンは3日目まで変わることなく演奏してくれました。4日目公演からはLaylaに替わりCocaineがセットインするという意外な変化はありましたが、オープニングのBlue Rainbowを始め、アドリブを挿し込める余地のある楽曲が多いため、連日クラプトンのプレイの違いを楽しむことができたことが今回の日本公演の最大の魅力でした。本作ももちろん当店オリジナルのマスターで、ステレオで高音質録音されており、「Budokan Day 1」を楽しんでいただけたなら、本作もおススメです。録音ポジションはアリーナA9ブロックという、ステージに向かってやや右側ですが好ポジションで、素晴らしい音質です。初日とはまた違った魅力に溢れていた2日目を是非お早くご入手ください。
【初日よりもパフォーマンスクオリティの上がった2日目公演！】
この2日目公演の売りは、クラプトンのプレイクオリティが初日よりも高まったことです。オープニングのBlue Rainbowは、初日がまさに世界での初演であり、クラプトンの緊張もありつつ危ういフレージングも見受けられました。ぎこちなさもあり、ミストーンもありました。ところがこの2日目は、テーマフレーズが非常に安定しているのに加え、アドリブでプレイしているパートが非常にスムーズです。速弾きで流れるように下降していくスローハンド奏法も炸裂します。その点でこの日のプレイは、この曲本来の魅力を出し切ったものだと言えると思います。故ジェフ・ベックに捧げる泣きのフレーズが冴え渡っています！
前半のハイライトであるI Shot The Sheriffも、時に速射砲のような速いフレーズを織り込みながらクラプトンらしい歌心溢れるフレーズ構成が快調です。そしてアコースティックセットでのSam Hallの前には、クラプトンがはっきり「ジェフに捧げる」とコメントしています。オープニング曲といい、この曲といい、やはりクラプトンには、60年代から同じ釜の飯を食ってきたとも言える友ジェフ・ベックを失った寂しさは相当堪えているのでしょう。その心中を慮って聴いていただきたい曲です。また、ゲイリー・ブルッカーを追悼するTears in Heavenにおける”青い影”の挿入は、初日がオルガンとギターのユニゾンによるものだったのが、この日はオルガンだけに変わりました。やはりこの方が原曲のイメージどおりでしっくり来ます。
そして何より価値があるのは、レギュラーセットラストのLaylaのパフォーマンスクオリティが初日より格段に高まったことでしょう。イントロの7連フレーズは従来からクラプトンが担当してきたのですが、高齢から来るものなのか、指が思うように動かず、危ういプレイを露呈したのが初日でした。しかしこの日はイントロのそれをドイルに任せ、クラプトンはコードワークに専念、それが奏功してスムーズに歌に入れています（これは70年代のジョージ・テリー以来のことでしょう）。その結果、声もしっかり出ていて問題なく歌え、バンド全体としてもタイトな出来映えとなりました。初日のテイクとは雲泥の差です。反省すべき点を素早く改善し、プレイクオリティを高めてきたクラプトン。これぞ、プロフェッショナリズムですね。後奏のクラプトンのソロについては、初日も涙ぐましいまでに頑張っていましたので、この日も同レベルの味わい深いプレイが聴けます。初日のセットリストの意外さに衝撃を受けた方には、さらに充実したこの2日目も是非聴いていただきたいものです。このセットリストの意味がより深化した2日目公演です。
