Eric Clapton’s treasured sound source brought us a great sound source with superb sound quality from a heavyweight taper who lives in England, which is familiar to us. From the 2009 London, Royal Albert Hall continuous performances performed by Clapton, May 25, which was the 7th performance, was completely recorded with the finest stereo audience recording. The sound source of this day was released by our shop in the past under the title of “ROAMING THIS OLD HIGHWAY” (4CD), and was pleased with the amazing high sound quality like that sound board recording. However, unlike that, what was provided by the heavyweight taper this time was a DAT master with the finest sound quality that goes further! I can’t believe this is an audience recording! Prominence of this musical tone. It only sounds like a good soundboard recording. Even those who have an existing board will be surprised by this sound quality, and if you do not have it, it is a guarantee that you will be pleased as the definitive version. A Japan tour was also held in 2009, but the set list and band members have changed from the time of the Japanese performance, and it can be said that it is an indispensable content for Clapton’s live performance in the middle of this year.

You can see that it was a year of very energetic activities, including appearances at charity events and TV programs, and tours around the world. This included a joint concert with Jeff Beck in Japan. And the day of this work was the 7th night of 11 consecutive performances at the local Royal Albert Hall. In other words, it was the timing when I was able to play freely in my familiar hometown. For those who like the sound source of the Japan tour, I would like you to pay attention to it, first of all, the drummer was changed from Abe Laborial Junior to Steve Gadd. Speaking of Clapton’s songs, it can be said that there is no longer a “fit” selection than Gadd. From that absolute sense of security, Clapton has changed the set list dramatically from the time of the Japan tour. It’s different from the opening number. A surprise from Going Down Slow, which will be the first performance in eight years since the 2001 “Reptile Tour”. Both this song and Old Love are played in the arrangement at the time of “Pilgrim Tour” in 1998. This is probably due to the fact that Tim Carmon was on the keyboard even in 1998, and Carmon’s synth solo in Old Love is also wonderful, but taking advantage of his synthesizer playability, Anything For Your Love’s solid performance for the first time in 17 years since 1992 is also worth listening to. Clapton’s chalking in this song shows the same finger strength as the ‘Journeyman Tour’ in 1990. You can see that even after 19 years it has not declined at all. And I Shot The Sheriff, which is the highlight song of the first half. In the solo of the post-play in this song, when Clapton is clear, you can’t hear the super-fast playing that makes you overwhelmed with overwhelming force, but it is a very delicate, emotional phrase that can only be played by Clapton. It’s a sad solo, like trying to tell the story of a man struggling to escape being falsely accused. It is a performance that I would like you to listen to. Also, from this day on, Blues Driftin ‘is being played instead of Dylan Cover Not Dark Yet, which had been organized in previous performances. Speaking of rare song selection, Anytime For You. Clapton’s beloved Big Maceo’s blues number. This song was my first live cover. As soon as the performance started, the mood became as if the venue had changed to the stage of a rustic bar in America. In the 2003 tour, the standard number Somewhere Over The Rainbow, which was the encore number, was shown in the sitting set in the middle stage, which is nothing but a strange variety. In contrast to the exciting first half of what will pop out, the second half is a royal set list, but the performances are generally wonderful, and you can enjoy a fulfilling performance that makes you feel an overwhelming sense of scale in every song. It is interesting that Cocaine’s solo on this day starts with an unusual phrase, but it can be asserted that the fast playing of slow hand playing from the middle of the solo is the best play of the day. It’s clear! In this song, which is often organized at the end of the regular set, Clapton in his 2000s usually shows considerable fatigue, and the clear solo is not often heard, but Cocaine on this day is different! Clapton was fine in 2009! It was a rare schedule that was held after the Japan tour, but it was a Royal Albert Hall performance, but the drummer changed and the set list changed significantly, so the performance full of charm that is different from the Japanese performance It is this work that the performance is completely recorded with the best sound quality. エリック・クラプトンの秘蔵音源では当店でお馴染みの、イギリス在住の重鎮テーパーから極上音質の凄い音源がもたらされました。2009年にクラプトンが行なったロンドン、ロイヤル・アルバート・ホール連続公演から、7公演目に当たった5月25日を極上ステレオ・オーディエンス録音で完全収録したDATマスターです。この日の音源は、当店が過去に「ROAMING THIS OLD HIGHWAY」(4CD)のタイトルでリリースしており、そのサウンドボード録音のような驚異的な高音質で喜んでいただいたものです。ところが、今回重鎮テーパーから提供されたのは、それとは異なり、さらにその上をいく極上音質のDATマスターだったのです！これがオーディエンス録音なんて信じられません！この楽音の際立ち。良質なサウンドボード録音のようにしか聞こえないのです。既発盤をお持ちの方でもこの音質には驚かれることでしょうし、お持ちでない方なら、決定版として喜んでいただけること請け合いです。2009年はジャパン・ツアーも行なわれましたが、日本公演時とはセットリストもバンドメンバーも変わっており、この年中盤のクラプトンのライブとしてははずせない内容だと言えます。

・2009年12月31日：AA（アルコール中毒者の会）のための恒例のチャリティ・コンサート「ニュー・イヤーズ・イヴ・ダンス」開催
チャリティイベントやテレビ番組にも出演し、世界各地でツアーも行なった非常に精力的な活動の一年だったことがお分かりいただけるでしょう。ここには日本でのジェフ・ベックとのジョイント・コンサートも含まれていました。そして本作の日は、地元ロイヤル・アルバート・ホールでの11連続公演の7夜目に当たっていました。言わば、慣れた地元で伸び伸びとプレイできたタイミングだったと言えます。ジャパン・ツアーの音源を気に入っておられる方にも是非注目いただきたいのが、まずはドラマーがエイブ・ラボリアル・ジュニアからスティーヴ・ガッドに替わっていたことです。クラプトンの楽曲と言えば、もはやガッドほど「はまる」人選はないと言ってもいいほどです。その絶対的な安心感から、クラプトンはジャパン・ツアー時とは劇的にセットリストを変更してきたのです。オープニングナンバーからして違います。01年の「レプタイル・ツアー」以来8年ぶりの演奏となるGoing Down Slowからというサプライズ。この曲もOld Loveも、共に98年の「ピルグリム・ツアー」の時のアレンジでプレイされています。このあたりは、98年当時にもキーボードにティム・カーモンがいたことが主因と考えられ、Old Loveでのカーモンのシンセソロも素晴らしいものですが、彼のシンセサイザーのプレイアビリティを活かしての、92年以来17年ぶりとなったAnything For Your Loveの重厚なパフォーマンスも聴きものです。この曲でのクラプトンのチョーキングは、90年の「ジャーニーマン・ツアー」と同等の指の強さを窺わせます。19年経ってもまったく衰えを見せていないことがお判りいただけるでしょう。そして前半のハイライト曲であるI Shot The Sheriff。この曲での後奏のソロは、クラプトンが冴え渡った時の、圧倒的に力でねじ伏せるような超速弾きは聴かれませんが、非常に繊細な、クラプトンにしか弾けないようなエモーショナルなフレーズ構成となっています。まるで、冤罪を逃れようともがく一人の男のストーリーを語ろうとするかのような切ないソロです。是非聴いていただきたいパフォーマンスです。また、この日からは、それまでの公演で組まれていたディラン・カバーNot Dark Yetに代わってブルースのDriftin’が演奏されています。またレアな選曲と言えば、Anytime For You。クラプトンの敬愛するビッグ・メイシオのブルースナンバーです。この曲はライブでは初カバーでした。演奏が始まった途端、会場がアメリカの鄙びた酒場のステージに変わったかのようなムードになります。その活躍の主人公はピアノのクリス・スティントンです。このムードが実現できるクラプトンバンド、凄いと思います。2003年ツアーではアンコールナンバーだったスタンダードナンバーSomewhere Over The Rainbowを中盤のシッティングセットで披露しているのもバラエティの妙というほかはありません。何が飛び出すか、ワクワクする前半に対し、後半は王道的なセットリストですが、演奏は総じて素晴らしく、どの曲でも圧倒的なスケール感を感じさせる充実の演奏を楽しむことができます。この日のCocaineのソロは一風変わったフレーズから始めているのも面白いですが、ソロ中盤からの畳みかけるスローハンド奏法の速弾きは、この日一番のプレイと断言できます。冴え捲っています！レギュラーセットのラストに組まれることの多いこの曲では、通常はかなりの疲れを見せていて、冴えたソロはあまり聴かれなくなっているのが2000代以降のクラプトンですが、この日のCocaineは違います！2009年もクラプトンは元気でした！ジャパン・ツアーの後に行なわれたという珍しい日程だったロイヤル・アルバート・ホール公演でしたが、ドラマーがチェンジし、セットリストも大幅に変わっただけに、日本公演とはまた違った魅力に溢れているパフォーマンスが極上音質で完全収録されているのが本作です。精力的に活動していた2009年のクラプトンの代表的音源として是非本作もコレクションに加えていただければと思います。
