The prestigious DEEP PURPLE where a big change of guitarist change occurred for the first time in 28 years. Featured new guitarist: Simon McBrad is also a perfect front row video.
This work was filmed on “October 17, 2022 in Milan”. It is the super superb view audience shot. “WHOOSH!” was released in 2020, but the “WHOOSH! Tour” started in 2022 after overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with that, Steve Morse leaves the tour to take care of his beloved wife. He ended up withdrawing. Simon McBride joined as his successor. This work is a video work that allows you to witness the full show of such a new system DEEP PURPLE. First of all, let’s check their schedule.

This is the outline of activities for 2022/2023 that have been announced so far. With only 3 warm-up performances in North America, Morse left. After that it was all shows with McBride. At our shop, we introduced the live album “GRASPOP METAL MEETING 2022 (Shades 1566)” as the first report, but at that time it was just a substitute for Moes. After that, the official joining was announced, and “Europe #2” started. The Milan performance of this work was the 13th concert.
This work, which vacuum-packed such a scene, blows away even the new lineup and is a superb view. Anyway, front row. There was no spectator in front of me, and the only people other than the members were the camera pit crew. Moreover, the left and right positions are also the best. In front of the attention McBride. Unlimited viewing of the action and hands without zooming. Exactly, you can stare at the most important scene right now from the best special seats in the venue.
What’s more, the camera work is exquisite. I follow not only McBride but also the highlights left and right, but the point is that I hardly zoom. This is probably because it is so close that there is no need for it, but this is also an ultra-realistic experience. After all, the human eye does not have a zoom function. The camera work of the zoom and the vivid image quality of each guitar string still make you experience the front row with the naked eye.
Furthermore, even the sound is superb, so I’m afraid. It seems that the front row is an outdated common sense. Is it the evolution of PA, the power of recording equipment, or both? In any case, the sound flowing out of this work does not feel any wraparound, and the great applause between songs does not come in between the performance with a sense of balance that you carry from your back. It is an ultra-tight sound that directly sucks in the PA sound with a sense of zero distance.

Under such circumstances, two rare songs “When A Blind Man Cries” and “Anya” attract attention. The former is the first time in 10 years, and the latter is the first time in 27 years. And speaking of these two songs, there may be some people who remember “1993”. Ritchie Blackmore suddenly withdrew from the group, and with the help of Joe Satriani, he made a comeback to Japan. Currently, they are faced with the withdrawal of an important guitarist again, but this time about 30 years later, they will definitely overcome it.
With the advancement of technology, multi-camera editing is now possible even for audience shots, and on the contrary, the “experience of a show” with one camera has become highly prized. Especially the “front row”, where tickets are rarely available, is an experience like no other. そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2022年10月17日ミラノ公演」。その超絶景オーディエンス・ショットです。『WHOOSH!』をリリースしたのは2020年のことでしたが、“WHOOSH! Tour”が始まったのは新型コロナ・パンデミックを乗り越えた2022年になってから。それと共にスティーヴ・モーズが愛妻の看病のためにツアーを離脱。そのまま脱退する事態に発展しました。そして、その後任として加入したのがサイモン・マクブレイド。本作は、そんな新体制DEEP PURPLEのフルショウを目撃できる映像作品なのです。まずは、そんな彼らの近況をスケジュールで確認しておきましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2022年／2023年の活動概要。ウォームアップ的な北米３公演だけでモーズ離脱。その後はすべてマクブライドとのショウでした。当店では、その第一報としてライヴアルバム『GRASPOP METAL MEETING 2022（Shades 1566）』をご紹介しましたが、その時点ではあくまでモーズの代役。その後になって正式加入がアナウンスされ、「欧州#2」がスタート。本作のミラノ公演は、その13公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんな現場を真空パックした本作は、新ラインナップ云々さえも吹っ飛ばす超・絶景。何しろ、最前列。目の前に観客の姿は一切なく、メンバー以外の人影と言ったらカメラピットの撮影クルーだけなのです。しかも、左右ポジションも最高。注目のマクブライドの目の前。そのアクションも手元もズームなしで見放題。まさに、今一番重要な光景を会場中で一番の特等席から凝視できてしまうのです。
しかも、カメラワークも絶妙。マクブライドだけでなく見どころを左右に追うのですが、ポイントなのはズームをほとんどしない事。その必要がないほど近いからなのでしょうが、これが超リアルな体験感にもなっている。何しろ、人間の肉眼にはズーム機能などない。ズームのカメラワークも、それでもギター弦の１本１本まで鮮やかな画質も、まさに肉眼感覚で最前列体験をさせてくれるのです。
さらにさらに、サウンドまで極上だから恐れ入る。最前列は音が回り込んでボケやすい……というのは、どうやら時代遅れの古い常識のようです。ＰＡの進化か、録音機材の威力か、あるいはその両方か。いずれにせよ、本作から流れ出るサウンドには回り込みが一切感じられず、曲間の大喝采も背中から背負い込むバランス感覚で演奏との間に入ってこない。ＰＡの出音をゼロ距離感でダイレクトに吸い込んでいる超タイト・サウンドなのです。
そんな最前列クオリティで描かれるのは、『GRASPOP METAL MEETING 2022』とも異なる最新“WHOOSH! Tour”のフルショウ。ここで比較しながらセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。『GRASPOP METAL MEETING 2022』はフェス出演用のショート・セットだったのかも知れませんが、本作こそが「マクブライドDP」の本格セットなわけです。そんな中で目を惹くのが２つのレア曲「When A Blind Man Cries」と「Anya」。前者は10年ぶり、後者に至っては27年ぶりという復活なのです。そして、この２曲と言えば「1993年」を思い出される方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。リッチー・ブラックモアが急遽脱退し、ジョー・サトリアーニの助けを借りて起死回生の復活を遂げた、あの来日公演を。現在、彼らは再び重要ギタリストの脱退という事態を迎えたわけですが、約30年後の今回も絶対に乗り越える……そんなメッセージのようにも思えてくる選曲です。
技術の進歩によってオーディエンス・ショットでもマルチカメラ編集ができるようになった現在、逆にワンカメによる「ショウの体験感」が珍重されるようにもなりました。特に滅多にチケットが手に入らない「最前列」は、無上無類の体験でしょう。本作は、そんな超特等席だけでなく、「マクブライドの目の前」という最重要ポジションを肉眼感覚で味わえるのです。今、全世界が求めている光景の権化。どうぞ、存分に味わい尽くしてください。
