CHEAP TRICK, who left Tom Petersson shortly after making his fifth studio album, appeared in “Japan Jam 2” in August 1980 with Pete Comita as his successor bassist from Rick Nielsen’s network. .. The new album “ALL SHOOK UP” was released in October 1980 with Tom’s play left (it seems that Tom’s withdrawal was officially announced at this time). The band will continue the “ALL SHOOK UP” tour with Pete.
In this work, from the precious tour when Pete was enrolled, the performance of London “Hammer Smith Odeon” on November 5 is recorded from the BBC radio broadcast sound source. This sound source was once released as a limited bonus title when “COME RIGHT HERE” (Power Gate) was released, but this time we responded to the request of fans who “want to listen”. , Is now available as a remastered version.
The time is a little short at 58 minutes, and it is a pity that it is not a complete recording of the live, but the sound quality is wonderful to convince the fans. Considering only the brightness of the sound and the flashy entertainment, it is as fulfilling as the masterpiece “JAPAN JAM 2” of the same period (noise due to the reception status of the master is scattered at the beginning of the live, but the remaster It is relaxed as much as possible in stages).
After opening the curtain with “Hello There”, the band’s representative songs such as “I’ll Be With You Tonight”, “Southern Girls”, and “California Man” will fold over “Clock Strikes Ten”. I will be overwhelmed by the development that is repeated in. The energetic Robin’s vocals, the lively and good Rick’s guitar as well as the character, and the band’s performance are very powerful. Pete’s bass is also mixed to a large extent, and enjoys a tight and groovy rhythm with the drums of Bun E. Carlos. Especially in the middle of the live where you can listen to “California Man”, “I Love You Honey But I Hate Your Friends”, and the new songs “Stop This Game” and “Baby Loves To Rock” at that time, enjoy the CHEAP TRICK sound of that time. It’s an interesting sample above. You can also enjoy the CHEAP TRICK versions of “Day Tripper” and “Gonna Raise Hell”, which were partially missing in “JAPAN JAM 2”. In particular, the latter is a medley that leads to “Big Eyes” through Carlos’s drum solo, Rick’s guitar solo, and then an enthusiastic performance of over 9 minutes, and the incandescent play will knock out all CHEAP TRICK fans. At the end of the game, the familiar “I Want You To Want Me” and “Surrender” will pop out, closing the live to the fullest.

５枚目のスタジオ・アルバム製作直後にトム・ピーターソンが脱退したCHEAP TRICKは、リック・ニールセンの人脈からピート・コミタを後任のベーシストに迎え、1980年８月の”ジャパン・ジャム ２”に出演。新作アルバム「ALL SHOOK UP」はトムのプレイを残したまま、’80年10月にリリースされました（この時あわせてトムの脱退が正式にアナウンスされたそうです）。バンドはピートを擁する編成のまま「ALL SHOOK UP」ツアーを行います。
本作ではその貴重なピート在籍時のツアーから、11月５日ロンドン”ハマースミス・オデオン”公演を、BBCのラジオ放送音源より収録しています。この音源はかつて「COME RIGHT HERE」（Power Gate）がリリースされた際、限定のボーナス・タイトルとしてリリースされた事がありましたが、今回「ぜひ聴きたい」というファンの皆さんのリクエストにお応えし、リマスター・バージョンとしての登場です。
時間的には58分間とやや短く、ライヴの完全収録では無いのが残念ですが、音質はファンを納得させる素晴らしさ。単に音の明度や、派手なエンターテイメント性だけ考えれば、同時期の名盤「JAPAN JAM 2」にも負けない充実ぶりです（ライヴ序盤でマスターの受信状態によるノイズが散見されますが、リマスターの段階で可能な限り緩和されています）。
オープニングの「Hello There」で勢い良く幕を開けてから、「Clock Strikes Ten」に、「I’ll Be With You Tonight」・「Southern Girls」・「California Man」と、バンドの代表曲が畳み掛けるように連発される展開には圧倒されてしまいます。エネルギッシュなロビンのヴォーカル、そのキャラクター同様に溌剌としたよいリックのギターと、バンドの演奏はとてもパワフル。ピートのベースも大きめにミックスされていて、バン・Ｅ・カルロスのドラムとともにタイトでグルーヴィなリズムを楽しませます。特に「California Man」や「I Love You Honey But I Hate Your Friends」，当時の新曲である「Stop This Game」と「Baby Loves To Rock」を聴かせるライヴの中盤は、当時のCHEAP TRICKサウンドを楽しむ上で興味深いサンプルだと言えるでしょう。「JAPAN JAM 2」では一部欠落が見られたCHEAP TRICKバージョンの「Day Tripper」と「Gonna Raise Hell」も、こちらでは余す所無く楽しめます。特に後者は9分を越える熱演の後、カルロスのドラムソロ、リックのギターソロを経て「Big Eyes」へと連なるメドレーで、白熱のプレイは全てのCHEAP TRICKファンをノックアウトするでしょう。終盤ではお馴染みの「I Want You To Want Me」と「Surrender」が飛び出し、ライヴを楽しさいっぱいにクロージングします。
トムがバンドを離れていた’80年代前半から中盤は、CHEAP TRICKのキャリア中でも評価の分かれる時代。しかし、だからこそ一人でも多くのファンに聴いて頂きたい時期でもあるのです。ピート加入後の1980年ライヴを、この機会にどうぞお楽しみください！
