Bruce Dickinson went on his first solo tour in 21 years with an orchestra. A multi-camera video work that allows you to experience the scene is now available.
This work was filmed in two performances. It is a set of two audience shots with “March 24, 2023 Zagreb performance (Croatia)” on DISC 1 and “Rio de Janeiro performance on April 21, 2023 (Brazil)” on DISC 2. Currently, IRON MAIDEN’s latest tour “THE FUTURE PAST Tour” is monopolizing the topic, and some people may ask, “When did you do a solo tour?” In order to explain that area, let’s first take a bird’s eye view of Bruce’s 2023 schedule.

This is Bruce Dickinson in 2023, which has been announced to date. Speaking of Bruce’s personal event, the talk show “AN EVENING WITH BRUCE DICKINSON” is held every year, but this year, besides that, John Lord’s memorial tour “CONCERTO FOR GROUP AND ORCHESTRA AND THE MUSIC OF DEEP PURPLE” was also performed. Bruce has an extremely diverse extracurricular schedule, but it was his first musical tour since 2002.
The point of this event is “co-starring with the orchestra”. Centering on DEEP PURPLE’s masterpiece “CONCERTO FOR GROUP”, successive rock songs and blues solo songs were also played. Let’s organize the show configuration here.

… and it looks like this. This work is a decision board that allows you to fully experience all the songs played with multi-camera images, setting 2 super-super audience shots of such a memorial tour 2 performances. Let’s take a look at each disc individually.

[DISC 1: Multi-camera footage of full show recording] As you can see above, the tour can be roughly divided into “Europe” and “South America”, and DISC 1 of this work is the former. It is a superb shot of “March 24 Zagreb performance”. It is a multi-camera editing assembled from multiple images, but it is a little different when you imagine the so-called “pro shot style”. The first half (Part 1: Concerto For Group And Orchestra) is a one-camera, and the second half (Part 2) is multi-camera editing. You may think, “Why aren’t they all multiplayer?” Also, the complete video of the first part has only been confirmed so far. Others are only excerpts of blues appearance parts and those that are missing the entire movement. It is the only video that can be experienced through “Concerto For Group And Orchestra” with one turtle.
And from the second part is the multi-camera editing. The number of angles varies depending on the song, but while switching one after another even within one song, the voice is unified with the best best recording. Enjoy a group of masterpieces that have been solemnly reborn in an orchestra. And the workmanship is just too great. Bruce, now 64, is also suffering from tongue cancer, which is fatal for the singer. Despite that, the singing voice has not faded… or should I say, it seems that now is the golden age. Moreover, the sensational power is also a big explosion by the orchestra. All the songs are wonderful, but the splendor of the solo super masterpiece “Tears Of The Dragon” and the ballad “When A Blind Man Cries” is indescribable. Furthermore, the magnificent “Perfect Strangers” …. While paying attention to the originator, the dynamism that makes full use of the spectacular vocalization theatrical tunes far exceeds Ian Gillan.

[DISC 2: Impressive video of the South American performance where you can also see “Burn”] The following DISC 2 is a representative video of the “South America” leg. This is a recording of only the second part, and it is a full-length multi-camera editing. Don’t underestimate me, “What, isn’t it full?” In fact, this DISC 2 is a highly recommended and impressive video.
The taste here is the repertoire that was not played in the “European” leg and the South American groove, and the biggest highlight is the super masterpiece “Tears Of The Dragon” at the beginning! As soon as they sensed the song from the intro’s arpeggi, a thunderous applause broke out, and from the first verse the song erupted into a chorus. If you say that the chorus exceeds even Maiden’s “Fear Of The Dark”, can you imagine the spectacle? Although it is a solo representative song, I haven’t had the opportunity to sing in South America for more than 20 years, and just knowing the lyrics from the first verse makes me feel like a whole body. Of course, even without such a background, the super masterpiece built up by the orchestra and the big chorus makes my heart sweat even if I hit the keyboard like this. As soon as he finished singing, he couldn’t start the next song due to the loud cheers that erupted.
The highlight of the encore, along with the impressive “Tears Of The Dragon”. Here, “Burn”, which was not performed in the European leg, appears!! If you think about it, since the time when the blues covered “Black Night” in the single “Dive! Dive! Dive!” I’ve been told Such he sings “Burn” that Gillan never sings. Of course, it’s not a mimic, so it’s not simply a “Guillain-style Burn”, but it gives you enough heroic versions to stir your imagination.
In addition, DISC 2 also includes “Ergen Deda” from “Bulgaria on March 19th”. This is a traditional Bulgarian folk song, and the blues is also sung in Bulgarian. The performance is also a fusion of folk instrument caval and rock arrangement, making it a full progressive folk rock. Also, with the addition of this one song, this work holds down all the songs performed in “THE MUSIC OF DEEP PURPLE Tour”.

Bruce Dickinson revived the masterpieces of DEEP PURPLE with a new band (John O’Hara of JETHRO TULL and female bassist of WHITESNAKE: Tanya O’Callaghan also participating!) and an orchestra. It can be said that the splendor of the singing voice that dances over the majestic orchestra is more than IRON MAIDEN. DISC 1, where you can thoroughly enjoy the full show, and DISC 2, where you can be completely immersed in the thrilling enthusiasm. A 2-disc set that I would like for those who are underestimated, saying, “I’m not interested in solo activities” or “It’s a cover anyway.” Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

You can experience a Jon Lord memorial tour with an orchestra in a multi-camera edited work produced by overseas enthusiasts. The Zagreb video (DISC 1) is the only full video that has been completely recorded up to “Concerto For Group And Orchestra”, and the Rio video (DISC 2) is the “Tears Of The Dragon” where the chorus is very moving and the precious “Burn”. You can enjoy it and complete the entire repertoire played on the tour with this work alone.

そんな本作が撮影されたのは２公演。「2023年３月24日ザグレブ公演（クロアチア）」をDISC 1に、「同４月21日リオ・デ・ジャネイロ公演（ブラジル）」をDISC 2に配したオーディエンス・ショット２枚組です。現在は本業IRON MAIDENの最新ツアー“THE FUTURE PAST Tour”が話題を独占しており、「一体いつソロ・ツアーをやってたんだ？」という方もいらっしゃるかも知れません。その辺をご説明するためにも、まずはブルースの2023年スケジュールを俯瞰してみましょう。

これが現在までに公表されている2023年のブルース・ディッキンソン。ブルースの個人イベントというと、例年トークショウ“AN EVENING WITH BRUCE DICKINSON”が行われていますが、今年はそれ以外に、11年前に亡くなったジョン・ロードの追悼ツアー“CONCERTO FOR GROUP AND ORCHESTRA AND THE MUSIC OF DEEP PURPLE”も実施されました。ブルースは極めて多彩な課外活動を行っていますが、音楽的なツアーとしては2002年に以来でした。
このイベントのポイントは「オーケストラとの共演」。DEEP PURPLEの名作『CONCERTO FOR GROUP』を中心に歴代のロック曲、ブルースのソロ曲も演奏されました。ここで、そのショウ構成を整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。本作は、そんな追悼ツアー２公演の超極上オーディエンス・ショット２公演をセットし、演奏された全曲をマルチカメラ映像で完全体験できる決定盤です。それでは、ディスク１枚ずつ個別にご紹介していきましょう。

【DISC 1：フルショウ完全収録のマルチカメラ映像】
上記をご覧の通りツアーは「欧州」「南米」に大別でき、本作のDISC 1は前者。「３月24日ザグレブ公演」の超極上ショットです。複数の映像から組み上げられたマルチカメラ編集ですが、いわゆる「プロショット風」をイメージされるとちょっと違う。前半（第一部：Concerto For Group And Orchestra）はワンカメで、後半（第二部）からマルチカメラ編集になるのです。「なんだ全部マルチじゃないのか」と思われるかも知れませんが、実はこれが貴著。と申しますのも、第一部の完全映像は現在のところこれしか確認されていないのです。他はブルース登場パートだけの抜粋や１楽章まるごと欠けているようなものばかり。１カメで「Concerto For Group And Orchestra」を通し体験できる唯一映像なのです。
そして、第二部からがマルチカメラ編集。アングル数は曲によって異なりますが、１曲内でも次々と切り替わりつつ、音声は極上なベスト録音で統一。オーケストラで荘厳に生まれ変わった名曲群を味わえる。そして、その出来映えがあまりにもあまりにも素晴らしい。ブルースは現在64歳でシンガーにとっては致命的な舌ガンも経験している。にもかかわらず、その歌声に衰えナシ……と言いますか、今こそが全盛じゃないかと思えるほど。しかもオーケストラによって扇情力も大爆発。すべての曲が見事なのですが、特にソロの超名曲「Tears Of The Dragon」やバラード「When A Blind Man Cries」の素晴らしさは筆舌に尽くしがたい。さらには壮麗極まる「Perfect Strangers」……。オリジネイターには経緯を払いつつ、壮大なヴォー-化リゼーション演劇的な節回しを駆使したダイナミズムはイアン・ギランを遙かに超えています。

【DISC 2：「Burn」も観られる南米公演の大感動映像】
続くDISC 2は「南米」レッグの代表映像。こちらは第二部だけの収録で、全編マルチカメラ編集です。「なんだ、フルじゃないのか」と侮るなかれ。実はこのDISC 2こそが超お薦めの大感動映像なのです。
こちらの旨みは「欧州」レッグで演奏しなかったレパートリーと南米ノリでして、最大の見どころは冒頭の超名曲「Tears Of The Dragon」！　イントロのアルペジで曲を察知するや凄まじい大喝采が沸き、歌い出し一節目から大合唱となるのです。その唱和はメイデン公演の「Fear Of The Dark」さえ超えると言えば、そのスペクタクルがご想像頂けるでしょうか。いかにソロの代表曲とは言え、南米で歌う機会は20年以上なかったわけですし、それを一節目から歌詞を熟知しているというだけで全身トリ肌が駆け巡る。もちろん、そうした背景ヌキにしてもオーケストラと大合唱でビルドアップされた超名曲には、こうしてキーボードを叩いていても心の汗が止まらない。歌い終わるや巻き起こる大声援に次の曲が始められず、照れくさそうに戯けるブルース……まさに必見の１曲です。
そんな大感動「Tears Of The Dragon」と並ぶ見どころなのがアンコール。ここでは欧州レッグでは演奏しなかった「Burn」が登場!!　思えば、ブルースはシングル『Dive! Dive! Dive!』で「Black Night」をカバーした頃から「ギランを歌わせたら天下一品」と言われてきました。そんな彼がギランが絶対に歌わない「Burn」を歌っている。もちろんモノマネ師ではないので単純に「ギラン風Burn」ではありませんが、想像力を掻き立てるには十分なヒロイック・バージョンを聴かせてくれるのです。
さらにDISC 2には「３月19日ブルガリア公演」の「Ergen Deda」も追加収録しています。これはブルガリアの伝統的なフォーク・ソングで、ブルースもブルガリア語で歌っている。演奏も民族楽器カヴァルとロック・アレンジの融合が図られ、いっぱしのプログレッシヴなフォーク・ロックとなっています。また、この１曲が追加されていることで、本作は“THE MUSIC OF DEEP PURPLE Tour”で披露された全曲が押さえられるのです。

新生バンド（JETHRO TULLのジョン・オハラやWHITESNAKEの女性ベーシスト：タニヤ・オキャラハンも参加！）とオーケストラ共演でDEEP PURPLEの名曲群を甦らせたブルース・ディッキンソン。荘厳なオケの上を伸びやかに舞う歌声の素晴らしさは、IRON MAIDEN以上と言っても良いでしょう。そのフルショウをじっくりと味わうDISC 1と、大感動の熱狂に包まれて浸りきるDISC 2。「ソロ活動は興味ない」「どうせカバーでしょ」と甘く見ている方にこそ触れていただきたい２枚組。どうぞ思う存分、心ゆくまでご堪能ください。
