Bill Champlin in 2010 who left CHICAGO and began to concentrate on solo activities. The best video of the orchestra co-starring concert that was realized at that time is now available.
This work was shot at “March 18, 2010 Oslo performance”. This is a multi-camera pro shot of a special performance with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK). The building that passed through CHICAGO has a solo show as well as a tour as SONS OF CHAMPLIN. To imagine such a situation, let’s look back on the schedule at that time.

This is Bill Champlin in 2009/2010. After the declaration of withdrawal, he conducted two US tours, “North America # 1” as a solo and “North America # 2” as SONS OF CHAMPLIN, but the Oslo performance of this work was inserted only once between the latter. It was a special performance. And if the position is special, the content is also special. As mentioned above, it is a concert with the orchestra KORK, and the pattern is broadcast by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). This work is a DVD version of the best master.
In fact, its quality is the finest with “super”. The image quality and sound quality are completely official only for the 2010 broadcast, but that’s not all. NRK is what we call NHK in Japan, and because it is a broadcasting station that represents the country, the elegance that exudes is wonderful. The stage full of orchestras can be so full that you can’t move, but the variety of camera work and fantastic lighting that make up for it are beautiful. The symphonic melody is blue and creates a deep mood like the deep sea, and the jazz-like melody creates a groove with passion red. The feeling of the work overflows from every corner of the screen, including the angles that capture the orchestra in various ways and the switching that fits the song.
What is drawn with such visual beauty is a group of solo masterpieces that are gorgeously colored by the orchestra. Let’s organize the contents here.

… And it looks like this. The repertoire since the 90’s is delicious, but I’m still happy with the masterpieces of the early solos “SINGLE” and “RUNAWAY”. The classics that I heard at the performance in Japan that was realized in 2011, but the memories are flashed back and further beautified by the orchestra. Of course, the performance is also wonderful, and it is fascinating not only with the delicious vocals but also with the enthusiasm while quickly replacing the guitar, organ, and piano.
CHICAGO’s repertoire is not covered because it was just after withdrawal, but there are plenty of solo masterpieces. A magnificent and gorgeous upgrade to the “best compilation album” by the orchestra. Originally, a masterpiece of music video that should be released officially. Please enjoy it carefully.

CHICAGOを脱退し、ソロ活動に専心するようになった2010年のビル・チャンプリン。そんな時期に実現したオーケストラ共演コンサートの極上映像が登場です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「2010年３月18日オスロ公演」。ノルウェー放送管弦楽団（KORK）と共演した特別公演のマルチカメラ・プロショットです。CHICAGOを抜けたビルはソロ名義でのショウの他、SONS OF CHAMPLINとしてのツアーも平行。そんな状況をイメージするためにも、当時のスケジュールから振り返ってみましょう。

これが2009年／2010年のビル・チャンプリン。脱退宣言以降はソロとしての「北米#1」、SONS OF CHAMPLINとしての「北米#2」と２つの全米ツアーを実施しましたが、本作のオスロ公演は後者の合間に１回だけ差し込まれた特別公演でした。そしてポジションも特別なら、内容も特別。前述の通りオーケストラKORKとの共演コンサートであり、その模様はノルウェー放送協会（NRK）で放送。本作は、そのベスト・マスターからDVD化したものです。
実際、そのクオリティは「超」付きの極上品。2010年の放送だけに完全オフィシャル級の画質・音質でもあるわけですが、それだけではない。NRKは日本で言うところNHKにあたり、国を代表する放送局だからこそ滲み出る気品が素晴らしい。オーケストラでいっぱいのステージは身動きができないほど満杯だったりもするのですが、それを補ってあまりある多彩なカメラワークと幻想的なライティングが美しい。シンフォニックなメロディにはブルー系で深海のような深遠なムードを演出し、ジャズっぽくハネる曲では情熱の赤でグルーヴを視角化する。オーケストラを多彩に捉えたアングルや曲想にピッタリと合ったスイッチングも含め、画面の隅々から作品感が溢れてくるのです。
そんな映像美で描かれるのは、オーケストラによってゴージャスに彩られたソロの名曲群。ここでその内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。90年代以降のレパートリーも美味しいですが、やはり嬉しいのは初期ソロ『SINGLE』『RUNAWAY』の名曲たち。翌2011年に実現した来日公演でも聴けたクラシックスですが、その想い出がフラッシュバックしつつ、オーケストラによって更に美化される。もちろん演奏も素晴らしく、滋味深いヴォーカルだけでなくギターやオルガン、ピアノと目まぐるしく入れ替えながらの大熱演で魅せてくれるのです。
脱退直後という事もあってかCHICAGOのレパートリーは取り上げていませんが、その分ソロの名曲群がたっぷり。オーケストラによって壮大に、ゴージャスにアップグレードした「目で観るベスト盤」です。本来であれば、オフィシャルでリリースされるべき音楽映像の大傑作。どうぞ、じっくりとお楽しみください。
