ANTHRAX in the 1980s, which sent “STATE OF EUPHORIA” to the 30th place in the United States and became a huge existence for each work. Introducing a masterpiece live album that conveys the scene in a realistic way.
The engraving on this work is “December 17, 1988 Rosemont performance”. Strictly speaking, Rosemont is not in Chicago, but it belongs to the so-called Chicago metropolitan area. .. “Chicago in 1988” is a sister edition of METALLICA “CHICAGO 1988 (Zodiac 381)” released at the same time this week. It is true that ANTHRAX on this day is a support act, but the main one is Ozzy Osbourne, not METALLICA. Yes, it’s the same day as Ozzy’s press masterpiece “NO REST FOR THE ROSEMONT (Zodiac 024)”, and it’s a live album with the same taper recorded continuously. First of all, let’s confirm the position of such a show from the schedule at that time.

<< December production of “PERSISTENCE OF TIME” started >>
This is 1988/1989 ANTHRAX. “North America # 1-2” immediately after the release of “STATE OF EUPHORIA” is Ozzy’s support. The Rosemont performance of this work was the 22nd concert.
This work recorded at such a show is a superb audience recording that flashes back Ozzy’s masterpiece “NO REST FOR THE ROSEMONT”. It’s natural because it has the same taper and continuous recording, but it’s very similar to the pressed Ozzy edition, and it’s completely on and powerful. There is no sense of distance and the thick core approaches in front of you, and along with that, the edges of the riff and the slamming of the drums are beautifully grained. As a matter of fact, I sometimes feel the chattering peak of the bass drum hitting sound for the first time in such a powerful way, but it is still in the press class. It is exactly the ANTHRAX edition of “NO REST FOR THE ROSEMONT”.
What is drawn with such a sound is a great performance of the precious “STATE OF EUPHORIA” era. There are also official albums “BBC LIVE IN CONCERT” and “LIVE: THE ISLAND YEARS” when it comes to live albums in the golden age, but the former is “AMONG THE LIVING TOUR” and the latter is “PERSISTENCE OF TIME TOUR”. This work is between the two, and they are different. Let’s organize the selection here.
・ SPREADING THE DISEASE (2 songs): Madhouse / Medusa
・ I’M THE MAN (1 song): I’m the Man
・ AMONG THE LIVING (3 songs): I Am The Law / Indians / Efilnikufesin (N.F.L.)
・ STATE OF EUPHORIA (4 songs): Be All, End All / Now It’s Dark / Antisocial / Finale
… And it looks like this. It’s only about an hour for the support act, but it’s packed with famous songs from “SPREADING THE DISEASE” to “STATE OF EUPHORIA”. As expected, past songs have become standard songs, but the “STATE OF EUPHORIA” number, whose standard has not yet been settled, is interesting, and the precious “Now It’s Dark” and “Finale” will also be shown. Especially “Finale” is a rare song that is played only on this tour. You can enjoy that heavy feeling of running with a very thick and powerful close contact sound.
Heavier and bigger. It is a masterpiece of a live album where you can enjoy the enthusiastic performance of ANTHRAX running up the stairs of success with the best sound. This work itself is an excellent musical work, but by combining it with Ozzy’s “NO REST FOR THE ROSEMONT”, you can fully experience the night of Rosemont.
If you think about it, 1988/1989 was also a big turning point for heavy metal itself. The street sensation that originated from GUNS N’ROSES is emphasized, and more serious and heavy sounds gradually emerge against the background of the world situation that smells like kina. Although the signs of the heavy 90’s were visible, they were fused with the fragrance of the 80’s, which was extremely gorgeous rather than being painted. Both ANTHRAX and Ozzy probably created “STATE OF EUPHORIA” and “NO REST FOR THE WICKED” because it was such an era. “Heavy metal because of 1988”, which is heavier than 1987 and not as heavy as 1990. Please enjoy it with “NO REST FOR THE ROSEMONT”.
