It was a legendary night when Carlos Santana jumped into the finale “Sympathy For The Devil” in Chiakiraku, a series of performances that the Rolling Stones performed at Madison Square Garden in 1975. There are two types of audience recordings that capture the pattern.

The sound source that saw the light of day with the “recorder 1” LP “HOLD ON TIGHT”
The sound source that saw the light of day with “recorder 2” LP “PRESERVE FOR FUTURE” and “DISCOVER NEW YORK”

The first release was “HOLD ON TIGHT”, and the major drawback was that the pitch was raised to fit on three LPs, and the order of the songs was changed. In that respect, the two LPs using “recorder 2” were recorded in a state that was easy to listen to, but this time it ended without the release at the end of the live.
However, with the advent of the CD era, the VGP label released two titles on CD, including “recorder 2”, and it quickly spread. Furthermore, a new VGP board was released under the same title for the encore “Sympathy For The Devil” that was contained in another compilation board, but the title and artwork are “HOLD ON TIGHT”. It was released in style.

Due to this situation, “recorder 2” continued to dominate the CD world, but even before that, it was common knowledge among enthusiasts that “recorder 1” was superior in sound quality. Certainly “recorder 2” also had very good sound quality, but the voice of a woman who persistently shouted “Satisfaction” near the recorder was annoying. In that respect, the sound image of “recorder 1” is overwhelmingly closer, and even in mania’s research book, “HOLD ON TIGHT” LP is “If it was an accurate track order and an accurate pitch, it would have been a masterpiece that will remain in posterity …” It was enough to say that, and in the fan club bulletin, it was clearly stated that it was a “sound board”.
In the first place, the label that released “HOLD ON TIGHT” mainly had its own jacket sense and maniac audience recording titles, so it did not get a proper reputation at the time. Because of the era when the sound board “PHILADELPHIA SPECIAL” and “HOT AUGUST NIGHT” were creating a big whirlwind, there was even a feeling that it was rather floating. However, this “HOLD ON TIGHT”, Baton Rouge’s “CAJUN QUEEN’S AFTERNOON DELIGHT”, and the culmination of the 72-year tour sound board “PLUG IN FLASH OUT” are three major masterpieces produced by this label coupled with unique artwork. I wonder if I can call it

In this situation, the appearance of the “recorder 1” CD was an urgent matter, but the “recorder 2” had been around for too long and did not appear. It was in 2008 that maniacs stopped drinking. First of all, “THE ORIGINAL HOLD ON TIGHT” realized a wonderful CD conversion from LP. While it greatly pleased enthusiasts at the time, there were points that could not be said to be faithful to the original state, such as editing to hide the microphone noise that occurred in the middle of “Gimme Shelter” and pinching between songs to put it on two CDs. Certainly.
In that regard, the DAC version “HOLD ON TIGHT” had the advantage of being recorded without unnecessary editing, but had the problem that the sound quality had changed significantly from the original LP. It was a highly complete finish, but it is also true that a maniac who has heard the warm sound of LP felt uncomfortable.

In this way, 15 years have passed since the release of the “HOLD ON TIGHT” reprint title, which had some problems. Again, “recorder 1” has fallen into a difficult situation. “Graf Zeppelin” stood up to this serious situation. Once again, the LP has been converted into a CD using the latest technology. In addition to the DAC board, whose sound quality has changed considerably, it is even more faithful than “THE ORIGINAL HOLD ON TIGHT”, and the ease of listening unique to the original LP is faithfully contained in the CD in a noiseless manner. That alone shows a finish that is far apart from the past two titles, but in addition, “Graf Zeppelin” has finely adjusted the subtle sound fluctuations that were seen everywhere.
And with regard to the pitch, we thoroughly ensured the accuracy throughout. This also boasts a stunning degree of perfection that keeps past items at bay. Of course, the missing part was compensated with “recorder 2”, but it is also extremely smooth. Instead, let’s make sure that the take of “Rip This Joint” 24th, which was mixed in the original LP, is treated as a bonus at the end without deleting it. It is exceptional to be able to enjoy “recorder 1”, which boasts such a powerful sound image, in a stable state.
This sound image is a wild performance that seems to be the last day of MSG. Please enjoy the crazy stage unique to this day such as “Sympathy For The Devil” to your heart’s content. This is the best “HOLD ON TIGHT” suitable for 2023.

(remastered memo)

★Based on the analog LP “HOLD ON TIGHT” (CS-MSG-75), the missing parts are supplemented with another source, realizing the first non-stop complete recording of all songs in a pseudo manner.
In the past, there are already released boards with a similar method, but there are poor editing between songs, missing parts, editing mistakes, fake processing, etc., so this board will be the first non-stop complete board.

★ The sound also respects the expansive sound of the analog board on this board
*In the existing DAC board, processing is slightly (about 30%) closer to monaural, probably to bring the performance to the center.

★ Scratch noise is carefully and patiently removed with pinpoint accuracy.
On the software, we don’t do noise processing (= artificial sound) by selecting the entire waveform at once.
In addition, there are many places where the hiss of the left channel is worrisome at the time of the original sound source, but it is kept to the minimum necessary processing.

★The pitch was not constant, so it was adjusted accordingly.
Also, some of the tape tremors are corrected. Angie’s triangle (?), etc.

★ The bonus Rip This Joint is from the 24th recorded on the analog board.
Recorded after pitch correction.

「recorder 2」LP『PRESERVE FOR FUTURE』と『DISCOVER NEW YORK』で日の目を見た音源

まず『THE ORIGINAL HOLD ON TIGHT』がLPからの見事なCD化を実現。
