Along with the original master excavation of Mike Millard, “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION” attracted a lot of attention in 2020. The world premiere master that will be the Rolling Stones edition.

Included in this work is “November 24, 1981 Chicago Performance”. It is an excellent audience recording recorded in the middle of three consecutive performances in Chicago that was realized in “AMERICAN TOUR 1981”. As many of you may have noticed, Chicago in 1981 is also famous for excavating sound board recordings in all three consecutive performances. Even on the second day of this work in Chicago, the best stereo sound board album “CHICAGO 1981 2ND NIGHT” was a big hit. It became a very popular title that sold out immediately.
That’s why the sound board has been released first, but there is “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”. This work is also different from ordinary audience recording. The most wonderful thing is the clear and transparent air feeling. There are two types of this series. This work is a recording like the latter sample, and the hall sound adds gloss, thickness, and dynamism rather than zero sense of distance. Of course, there is no reason for such a ringing to cause blurring or turbidity, but this work is a beautiful recording in which the core is strong and straight, and the brilliance caused by the ringing can be felt even more clearly.
If you add more, the spectacle of great cheers is exquisitely delicious. I am inhaling the enthusiasm of the real scene, but it is not an immediate scream, but a three-dimensional effect like the ocean spreading far away. The joy controlled by Mick’s every move rises as a “swell”, wriggling the wide excess to the right and left. In “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, Mick introduces the members and puts in a stir, but the excitement is big …. This sense of place cannot be a sound board, and the performance that penetrates the middle and the sense of balance between singing voice and excitement are not required for recording an audience of mediocre audiences. It is a tremendous experience that can be enjoyed only because it is a beautiful recording of “HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”.
The show drawn with such a sound is also wonderful. In fact, this day is also known for its excellent performance, and the crisp ensemble is really cool. Of course, it is not a perfect band like an opportunity from corner to corner, and in the early “Shattered” there will be happenings where Mick and the band will not mesh. But that’s all there is to the confusion. There is no slack in the fixed set, and the light performance penetrates the full show without loosening the dust. It is precisely because of such a performance that Sugar Blue’s jumping in at “Miss You” shines.
I can’t hope for press because of the existence of a full stereo sound board, but that doesn’t mean I can ignore such a masterpiece recording. I want as many people as possible to experience it. This is an introduction from the Uxbridge label for that purpose. A document album where you can experience that wonderful show from a special seat. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content!

本作に収められているのは「1981年11月24日シカゴ公演」。“AMERICAN TOUR 1981”で実現したシカゴ３連続公演の中日で記録された絶品オーディエンス録音です。もうえ気づきの方も多いと思いますが、1981年のシカゴと言えば３連続公演のすべてでサウンドボード録音も発掘されたことでも有名。本作のシカゴ２日目にしても極上ステレオサウンドボード・アルバム『CHICAGO 1981 2ND NIGHT』が大ヒット。即完売の大人気タイトルとなりました。
と言うわけで、先にサウンドボードが公開されているわけですが、そこは“HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”。本作もまた、普通のオーディエンス録音とはワケが違います。何よりも素晴らしいのは、クリアに透き通った空気感。このシリーズは大きく分けて２つのタイプがあり、１つは反響成分ゼロな超タイト録音で、もう１つが鳴りが輝きを与えるタイプ。本作は後者の見本のような録音でして、距離感ゼロというよりはホール鳴りが艶や厚み、ダイナミズムを加えてくれる。もちろん、そうした鳴りがボケや濁りの原因になっては元も子もありませんが、本作は芯が力強く真っ直ぐに伸び、むしろ鳴りによる輝きが一層のクリアさに感じ取れる美録音なのです。
さらに加えるなら、大歓声のスペクタクルも絶妙に美味しい。リアルな現場の熱狂を吸い込んでいるのですが、それが間近な絶叫ではなく、遠くに広がる海原のような立体感。ミックの一挙手一投足にコントロールされた歓喜が“うねり”となって持ち上がり、広い過剰を右へ左へと蠢いていく。「You Can’t Always Get What You Want」ではミックがメンバー紹介しながら煽りを入れるのですが、その盛り上がりのデカいこと……。この現場感覚はサウンドボードではあり得ませんし、ド真ん中を貫く演奏や歌声と盛り上がりのバランス感覚は凡百のオーディエンス録音には求められない。“HOT OFF THE HEADS PRODUCTION”の美録音だからこそ味わえる絶大な体験感なのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるショウがまた素晴らしい。実際、この日は名演でも知られており、ビシッとしたアンサンブルが実に小気味良い。もちろん、隅から隅まで機会のように完璧なバンドではありませんし、序盤の「Shattered」ではミックとバンドが噛み合わなくなるハプニングも発生します。しかし、乱れるのがそれくらいしかない。固定セットの中だるみも起きず、軽快な演奏が微塵も緩まずにフルショウを貫く。そんな熱演だからこそ「Miss You」でのシュガー・ブルーの飛び入りも映えるのです。
フルのステレオ・サウンドボードが存在するためにプレス化は望めませんが、だからと言ってこれほどの傑作録音を無視するわけにはいかない。１人でも多くの方に体験していただきたい。そのためのUxbridgeレーベルからのご紹介です。あの素晴らしいショウを特等席からたぷりと体感できるドキュメント・アルバム。どうぞ、心ゆくまでじっくりと味わい尽くしてください！
