YES in 2001, when he was embarking on a large-scale orchestra co-starring project with the absence of a keyboardist. The symbolic image is the gift release decision.
――The masterpiece of the official video “SYMPHONIC LIVE” is contained in this work. YES, who left Igor Koroshev at the end of the tour in August 2000, went forward to the orchestra co-starring without joining a substitute keyboardist. We released “MAGNIFICATION” and conducted a co-star tour. “SYMPHONIC LIVE” is the production of that stage. This is a multi-camera professional shot of “November 22, 2001 Amsterdam performance”. First of all, let’s look back at the schedule at that time and confirm the position of the show.

This is YES in 2001. On September 10th, they released “MAGNIFICATION” in their home country of England, and the next day in North America, the “American terrorist attacks” occurred. We’ve set out for a European tour, adjusting for a significant change in the release date. The Amsterdam performance of this work was the 21st performance of such “European” leg.
The quality of this work produced at such a show is needless to say. As a matter of course, imposing complete official quality. Even if you say “official grade” in a bit, it’s actually a bit of a pinch, and there are things that just make a TV broadcast into a disc, but this work is completely different. It is a “work” that was planned and produced as a chitin, and the degree of perfection is quite different from the pro shot of 100. Especially for the orchestra co-starring, the enormous amount of work has been thoroughly done due to the enormous budget involved, and everything from sound to camera work to CG inserted at important points is carefully done. It is one that stands out even in YES’s successive official images.

Not only the ensemble, but also the shaku itself far exceeds the original, the dramaticism extended to 28 minutes is truly supreme. The value of the co-starring project is more than sufficient simply because these three songs are realized. It’s a masterpiece as if 10 bonus songs were added on top of it.
Progressive rock that fuses with all kinds of music has spread all over the world, and it is even scolded that there is no country without a progressive band. Among them, “symphonic rock” is a major trend, and YES is a symbol of that. They seriously co-starred with the orchestra… This work is a video work that allows you to experience such a full show in ultimate quality, and is one answer of the eternal proposition, “fusion of rock and classical music”. キーボーディスト不在を逆手にとって、大規模なオーケストラ共演プロジェクトに乗り出していた2001年のYES。その象徴映像がギフト・リリース決定です。
そんな本作に収められているのはオフィシャル映像の名作『SYMPHONIC LIVE』。2000年８月のツアー終了をもってイゴール・コロシェフが離脱したYESは、代わりのキーボーディストを加入させることなくオーケストラ共演の道を邁進。『MAGNIFICATION』をリリースし、共演ツアーも実施しました。そのステージを作品化したのが『SYMPHONIC LIVE』。「2001年11月22日アムステルダム公演」のマルチカメラ・プロショットです。まずは、当時のスケジュールを振り返り、ショウのポジションも確かめておきましょう。

これが2001年のYES。北米を巡った彼らは９月10日に母国イギリスで『MAGNIFICATION』をリリースし、翌日には北米でも……というところで“アメリカ同時多発テロ事件”が発生。発売日の大幅変更を調整しつつ、欧州ツアーへと出発しました。本作のアムステルダム公演は、そんな「欧州」レッグの21公演目にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで制作された本作のクオリティは……言うまでもありませんね。当然の事ながら堂々たる完全公式クオリティ。ひと口に「オフィシャル級」と言っても実際にはピンキリで、中には単にテレビ放送をディスク化しただけの物もあったりするわけですが、本作はまったく違う。キチンと計画されて制作された「作品」であり、完成度は凡百のプロショットとはケタ違い。特にオーケストラ共演は膨大な予算も絡むだけに壮大な作り込みは徹底され、音響からカメラワーク、要所で挿入されるCGに至るまで、すべてが入念。YESの歴代オフィシャル映像でも傑出した１本です。
