This show has long been known to have been recorded as the highest peak of the tour, and “LONG BEACH BOOGIE 1979” has reigned as a major staple for 10 years at our shop. In fact, that famous recording was the work of the master Millard interference. This work digitizes the traditional recording from the original master of Mirrored. It’s a live album that has been upgraded with ultimate freshness.

This is YES in 1978/1979. It is divided into the 1978 “TORMATO Tour” and the 19979 “TEN TRUE SUMMERS Tour”, but the long beach performance of this work is the final stage. It was the second concert of “North America # 3”. This tour is also left in the official video “LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA”, but this work is about a month before that.

[Master sound with official level aesthetics] This work recorded at such a show is truly a masterpiece. Unfortunately, the sound break of “Awaken” is the same as before (supplemented by another recording), but the ending is about 40 seconds longer and it is clearly the original. However, that is just proof of the origin, and the overwhelming thing is the sound, and anyway, the thick core and the strangely vivid details jump into the ear with a sense of zero distance. Even the conventional master was acclaimed as “ultra-clear sound that can only be heard on a sound board recording” and “the guitar is recorded like a line recording, it is like a monitor mix”, but Millard’s Omoto master is even more intense. .. The slightly rounded edges disappear, and if the attack sound is sharp, the transparency of the stretch is overwhelmingly improved. Furthermore, the darkness of the silent part has become deeper, and the enhanced playing sound is shining brilliantly.
Moreover, it is natural. In the conventional version, the freshness lost by dubbing was improved by equalizing, but this work of Omoto Master does not need to do so from the beginning. Of course, the pitch that was slightly out of order in the original net sound was adjusted accurately, but the sound itself greatly surpassed the conventional board even with no touch. And because it is unprocessed, the natural sound and the resolution of fine parts are overwhelming. This upgrade feeling is, so to speak, an official feeling. For example, historical masterpieces are the ones in which the ultimate sound is sought by various media and new technologies, but the sound of this work is also in that range. In fact, it must be “spatial recording from the audience”, but the elaborate recording technology and the freshness of the original master are different from the top products of the official world such as “Mobile Fidelity” and “Nimbus Super Cut”. It’s a world of beauty.

これが1978年／1979年のYES。1978年編の“TORMATO Tour”19979年の“TEN TRUE SUMMERS Tour”に分かれているわけですが、本作のロングビーチ公演はその終盤。「北米#3」の２公演目にあたるコンサートでした。このツアーは公式映像『LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA』にも残されていますが、本作はその約１ヶ月前でもあります。

【公式レベルの美学が宿ったマスター・サウンド】
そんなショウで記録された本作は、まさに最高傑作。残念ながら「Awaken」の音切れは従来と同じ（別録音で補填してあります）ですが、エンディングが40秒ほど長く明らかに大元。しかし、それはあくまで大元の証拠に過ぎず、圧倒的なのはサウンドで、とにかく極太な芯と異様に鮮やかなディテールがゼロ距離感覚で耳に飛び込んでくる。従来マスターでも「サウンドボード録音にしか聴こえないウルトラ・クリアなサウンド」「ギターがライン録音のように収録されており、まるでモニターミックス」と絶賛されていたわけですが、ミラードの大元マスターはさらに強烈。わずかに感じられたエッジの丸みもスッキリと消え去り、アタック音もシャープなら伸びの透明感も圧倒的に向上。さらに無音部の闇も深くなり、引き立てられた演奏音がキラキラと輝いているのです。
しかも、ナチュラル。従来盤はダビングによって落ちた鮮度をイコライジングでアップした感じでしたが、大元マスターの本作には最初からその必要がない。もちろん、ネット原音では微妙に狂っていたピッチは正確に整えましたが、サウンドそのものはノータッチでも従来盤を大きく凌駕。そして、無加工だからこその自然な鳴りや、微細部の解像度が圧倒的なのです。このアップグレード感は、言わばオフィシャル感覚。例えば、歴史的名盤は様々なメディアや新技術で究極サウンドが追い求められるものですが、本作のサウンドもその域。事実としては「客席から空間録音」には違いないものの、精緻を凝らした録音技術と大元マスターだからこその鮮度は「モービル・フィディリティ」「ニンバス・スーパーカット」のようなオフィシャル世界の頂上品と変わらぬ美の世界なのです。

……と、このようになっています。抜粋作『LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA』では聴けない名曲もたっぷりのフル収録なわけですが、それ以上なのが演奏。このロングビーチ公演は以前からショウの素晴らしさでも有名で、１人ひとりに注目すればエネルギッシュでパワフルですし、アンサンブル全体でもビシッとタイト。リック・ウェイクマンの「ヘンリー八世」も、続く「Awaken」もスタジオ作品かと思うほどに完璧な演奏ぶりで、スティーヴ・ハウの切れの良いギターとトリプルネックのクリス・スクワイアのベースが唸りを上げているのが手に取るように分かる。マニア間で「公式レコーディングされていたら、歴史に残るライヴ盤になった」と言われるほどの名演なのです。
