The yardbirds’ debut will be in the early 1960s, with the history of rock that is out of dawn. Members of the yardbirds, as simple simple and early rock steps to the next stage, open up the path without a predecessor, so that various kinds of things such as blues, folk rock, pops like things and psychedelic at the end I was seeking musicality in line with the times. As the contemporary Beatles changed the musicality from Rock’n’Roll to Sargent, White, Abbey Road, Yardbirds also paced the way he had no pioneers and was pushing himself. Changes in the musicality have resulted in frequent replacement play of guitarists and other members, and this has resulted in a cycle in which it further changes the musicality. At the beginning of the band, vocal keith · lerf was the center and the R & B cover was mainly played on the stage, but as Eric · Clapton joined, the band changes to professional at a stroke.

【Eric Clapton Period 1963-1965】
After Clapton joins, the first album “FIVE LIVE YARDBIRDS” is released. It can be said that the point that it is the first and the live album represents the very essence of the band. This is influenced by The Tigers etc as well, making the live board as the first album again (“ON STAGE”). On stage it is a unique style of playing blues tones over a long period of time, just as the Beatles and Stones were doing the stage of about two minutes of songs arranged in about a half minutes, accepted to middle audience It seems I could not. Manager Giorgio Gomelski craved for a more catchy hit song to sell the band and asked members for melodic and pop numbers. The result was “For Your Love”. Although it has a sweet “aimed feeling” from the title, it certainly becomes the band’s first hit song and leads to commercial success. However, although it would be nice to have a hit song as a thing, Clapton, who was aiming for the quest for blues, was disappointed with such a song, despite being able to sell, it was decided to withdraw from the result band.

As for the CD of this work, as the performance of the Clapton period, the performance at the Marquee club of March 20, 1964 is recorded. This is recorded from the unedited source of “Five Live Yardbirds”, the opening is long and it is the sound before the extra reverberation is added, so you can hear more clearly the performance. It is a polite thing that moderators introduce each member one by one, especially to introduce “lead / guitar” as “Eric ·” slow hand “· clapton”. The song is “Too Much Monkey Business”. With the performance falling within the category of Oldies, there is no scene where “slow hand” is active, but like “momentum” to penetrate at a stretch through the arrangement of up-tempo is strongly felt. Followed by the live “I Wish You Would” in Manchester on July 22, 1964. Keith · Lerf’s herb is an impressive rock and roll. Although Keith is not well evaluated as a vocalist, skillful herb performance is noteworthy.

In this DVD of this work, valuable first appearance images of this era are recorded. July 22, 1964 Television show “TELL IT ON MOUNTAIN”. In the strong blues color number “Louise” that Clapton wants to see, you can see the appearance of playing the guitar in a good mood. As it is now, while standing straight, shaking the body forward with a forward tilt playing impressive phrases one after the other. It is the very first picture of young Clapton. The second song is “I Wish I Would”. You can watch a picture of Keith playing herbs and vocals alternately. Clapton closes his mouth and is facing forward, playing lightly as much as to say that such a song can be played easily. I feel embarrassed that Clapton standing while playing the guitar is exactly Clapton. In the part that will be up tempo in the second half of the song, it is still stooping and strumming the guitar.

【Jeff Beck period 1965-1966】
It was Jimmy Page at the beginning that the arrow of a white feather stood as a follower after the withdrawal of Clapton. However, he was refraining from Clapton, and he was busy already as a session guitarist at the time, so he declined to participate, and Jeff Beck recommended him instead. As opposed to explorative Clapton in blues, Beck, who was interested in any rendition style and genre, seems to be familiar with the band soon. Will not it be the time when the yard birds of this age which had Beck corresponding broadly from pop number such as “For Your Love” and “Heart Full Of Soul” to hard rock was the most shining time?

The performance of this time on this CD’s work is “READY STEADY GO” first. It is a wonderful “The Train Kept A Rolling” which was successful as a result of transitioning to a pop and hard line with Beck’s subscription. It is different from the performance by Jimmy Page in later year’s performance, it is incredible to compare listening comprehension including interlude guitar solo. ‘I’ m A Man ‘still has a burgundy remnant scent, and Keith’ s harmonica is adopted extensively. The other two are two songs when I appeared in the Italian show SANREMO FESTIVAL. First of all there was an interaction with the moderator and then playing two songs “Questa Bolta” and “Paff … Pum”. It is good and bad I understand that two songs with a glimpse of the flexible posture of yardbirds’ music are playing in a relaxed popular song. Beck’s guitar solo is like a Hawaiian atmosphere.

In this DVD of the work, two kinds of images of the Beck period are recorded. First of all, 4 songs in 1965 television show “SHINDIG”. It is a typical style of a group of ties, black neckties, many groups and sounds of this era. Beck’s guitar play is very striking and you can see that the camera also shoots a relatively large number of Beck. A melodic song, a beautiful chorus work, and a blues color so far are like a change as if it had been wiped out, only Keith’s harmonica has kept its remnant. However, “I ‘m A Man” is special, and Beck’s tricky playing style plays a tone that would not have been seen by people of this age. Followed by 2 songs from Paul Winners’ concert of New Musical Express on 1 May 1965. This is not a TV show but a live concert with an audience in the arena. Two songs “The Train Kept A Rolling” and “Shapes Of Things”. Even here Beck’s play is prominent in the band.

【Jeff Beck & Jimmy Pageing Period 1966】
There is a time when Beck and Jimmy Page have participated as a band mate in the same period though it is a short period. The departure was supplementary vacancy due to Paul Samuel Smith ‘s withdrawal from the base. Yes, Paige initially participated as a bassist. Moreover, while participating, in fact it is surprising to say that Paige had no experience as a bassist. It was a matter of course that it turned around based on Chris Dreya, which was a guitar so far, and that Paige is in charge of guitar soon. Moreover, Chris Dreya was playing a part called so-called rhythm guitar, but Paige suggested a new direction to the band as a lead guitar that is in line with Beck. Yardbirds in 1966 was a valuable era when Beck and Paige took twin leads in the same band, although the period was short.

The DVD of this work contains the images that these two people stand on the same stage. That is a picture at the Provence Rock Festival in France on June 27, 1966. Co-starring young Beck and Page, dressed in white suit suit. The stage is gorgeous at a stroke by Paige joining. It has actions that seem to be exaggerating to make Leeper’s reminiscent, and there is some emotional thing in Zeppelin fans. Three songs “The Train Kept A Rolling”, “Shapes Of Things” and “Over Under Sideways Down” are played but due to the stage composition and the nature of the song, the degrees of freedom of play are low, Paige apparently seems to be cramped. From this rebound or freestyle rock will bloom in the 70’s, you can see a glimpse of its sprout from its performance. Also in the same period as October 26, 1966 TV · show “THE MILTON BERLE SHOW” “Happening s Ten Years Time Ago” is recorded. A psychedelic image processing that reflected the coming era was a novel video that was not a color disappointment. Musical style is somewhat psyched, and Paige and Beck are lined up on the left side and guitar solos are piled up together.

【Jimmy · Page stage 1966-1968】
From this time, Beck and other members’ emotional discords have become noticeable. Beck did not participate in the recording and the stage, did not do. For face to face treatment of the tonsils it was said that the emotional confrontation worsened to the point where it could not be modified and Beck finally withdrew from the band. Although the replacement guitarist was also examined, Jimmy thought that guitar was okay by himself from the experience so far, and it was decided to start again as a yard birds of 4 person formation. The band’s musicality has evolved further, but it is highly contributed by Paige’s experience as a session musician. Also at this time the manager has been changed to Peter Grant. The big stream of history is inevitably linked to the history afterwards. While the early period, the clapton period, the Beck period, the Beck & Page period each ended short-lived, the page period was relatively long, and the leadership of the band gradually entrusted to Paige.

July 22, 1967, which is also left in the later-described video on the CD of this work, France has recorded seven songs in Provins rock festival. Also on August 22, 1967 Santa Monica’s live song “Smile On Me” was recorded. Finally, the page out stake in the page period is recorded. “Think About It” only in 1967, others are studio out takes in 1968. The last “Knowing That I’m Losing You” is understood, but it is the original song released later as “Tangerine”. From lyrics to melodies are almost the same but the lyrics are totally different, and yet it is different from the lyrics of the chorus of “Tangeri – n – ♪”, so it shows the aspect of a relaxation song. However, as of 1968, the fact that the melody of “Tangerine” was almost completed can be heard from this track.

Next is the DVD of this work. Because the era is new and the duration of the activity has been long, the image of the page bay Yardbirds is abundant in materials as compared to other periods. First on March 15, 1967, it appeared on German television show “BEAT BEAT BEAT”. Each member wears colorful costumes and plays four songs. The gorgeous guitar of Paige clearly brings thickness to the band, and furthermore, making the sound with the guitar as the main is the evolution which makes a distinction from the musicality of the old Oldies like band.

曲は「Too Much Monkey Business」である。 続いて1964年7月22日マンチェスターでのライブ「I Wish You Would」。

2曲目は「I Wish I Would」である。

「The Train Kept A Rolling」と「Shapes Of Things」の2曲。

また同時期として1966年10月26日テレビ・ショウ「THE MILTON BERLE SHOW」における「Happening s Ten Years Time Ago」を収録している。

ラストの「Knowing That I’m Losing You」は聴けばわかるが、後に「Tangerine」として発表される原曲である。

1曲目は「The Train Kept A Rolling」である。

【BIRDS OF A FEATHER】
