1976年が、メインマーケットであるヨーロッパと北米を二度三度に分けてくまなく回る大規模なツアーに明け暮れた年であったことがお判りいただけるでしょう。その中でこのコンサートはツアー終盤に当たっていました。前年10月3日にリリースされたアルバム「WHO BY NUMBERS」のプロモーションのため、前年から続けられたこのツアーにおいて、この終盤では当該アルバムからのSlip Kidもセットインした日はあったのですが、どことなくぎこちないパフォーマンスになった当曲をはずし、シングルナンバーSqueeze Boxとザ・フーならではのスリリングなインストパートを含むDreaming From the Waistに入れ替え、固定したのがこの日のセットでした。但し新曲のセットインは2曲のみ、その他はザ・フーの歴史を集大成するような全時代からの代表曲を網羅していました。初期のヒット曲と名盤「WHO’S NEXT」の代表曲を並べた前半、名作ロックオペラ「TOMMY」の組曲を見事な構成で抜粋し、泣く子も黙らせる十八番で締めたのがこのツアーのレギュラーセットであり、この日もそれを踏襲しての、文句なしに王者の貫禄を示したステージを披露していました。残念ながらラストに演奏されたWon’t Get Fooled Againがイントロだけの収録となっていますが、そこまでのこのステージで、キース・ムーン時代のザ・フーがいかにスリリングなバンドだったかが実感していただけるでしょう。生前、ジョン・エントウィッスルは、このツアーではこの日がベストだったと発言しており、それほど彼の印象に残る出来映えだったことが明らかにされていました。既発音源ではこの日のソースは出回ったことはあったのですが、それはJEMS曰く「AMラジオで放送されたような音質」とのことで、今回のマスターはそれとはまったく別ものの、サウンドクオリティは今回のマスターの方が格段に上だと評価されています。モノラル録音ながら各楽器・ボーカルの分離感・拡がりが良く、クリアな音質はさすがJEMSと唸らせるものです。まるで良質なサウンドボードソースを聴いているかのような音質なのです。手数の多いムーンのバスドラまでがしっかり聞き取れるこの音質は、フーのファンの方々にはきっとご満足いただけるでしょう。しかも正常なピッチで聴けるのは本盤だけ。これまで日の目を見なかったニューマスターのジャクソンヴィル公演の良好ファースト・ジェネレーションマスターが遂にそのヴェールを脱ぎました。しかもさらなるグレードアップを実現したのは当店の本盤だけです。その価値に相応しい限定プレスCDでのリリースとなります。数に限りがございますので、お早めのオーダーをお願い致します。
