A live sound source of 1972, which is one of the heyday of The Who without any price, yet has a small number of items. In the first place, it was held only in Europe, and the number of live performances is as small as 16 times. Under such circumstances, it was “FRANK FURT 1972” released in 2018 that pleased the 1972 tour sound source CD and enthusiasts all over the world. However, even after that, the situation where there were few items on the 1972 tour did not change, and further releases were required.
“DANISH TREAT” is an old masterpiece that was highly evaluated by enthusiasts during this tour. I was recording a performance in Copenhagen 10 days after Frankfurt, but it is a hidden name recording that enthusiasts loved as a tremendously powerful stereo audience recording. After all, the sound pressure of Pete’s guitar and other performances was tremendous, and it was recorded in stereo. Roger’s voice was pushed because the performance was captured with a powerful balance, but it made me imagine again, “If you watch the actual Fu live, it will be like this?” It also had a freshness that would give me.
However, “DANISH TREAT” uses a gene-dropped copy that can be said to be a product of the end of the cassette trade in the 1990s, and it is also a fact that the sound quality was rough as it was. However, this roughness was not bad for the powerful sound image, and it was still appreciated by enthusiasts. However, in the 2010s, a master copy of this audience was unearthed. The “roughness” that was in the previous release has been wiped out, and now it’s clearer, so you can finally enjoy the amazing sound pressure in a realistic way.

Even so, this recording is really amazing. Not only is the sound image close, but it also has a solid stereo feel. Also, on the stage of 1972, the big hit “TOMMY” part was drastically reduced. As a result, Pete’s guitar improvisation was less frequent, but John’s bass played a leading role more often. On the contrary, his singing “My Wife” will be escalated by Impro later, but at this point it is still a neat performance.
Because the recording is close to the sound image, the formation unique to 1972 is clearly captured. The best example is “Bargain”, where Pete cuts along with Keith’s drums as the performance approaches in the second half, and John shows a lead-based development instead. From there, John returns to the backing and is reflected in Pete’s guitar solo. The change is really light, and you can see that this song was the basis of the improvisational development at that time.
Unfortunately, this powerful sound source was recorded only halfway through “My Generation”. Even so, it was conscientious that the rest was supplemented with another sound source when uploading in 2010. However, the sound quality itself is a monaural audience that does not reach the foot of the main story, but it is still very important that it compensated for it. That’s because, after slowing down to the familiar “Naked Eye” on this tour, instead of the usual “Long Live Rock”, we’re moving from “TOMMY” to “Sparks”. The show on the 25th, which will be recorded at the same time this time, or “FRANK FURT 1972” also ended with the new song “Long Live Rock” at that time, but only on this day the jam-like finale from “Sparks” is very Unusual. Also, with this release, the sound source of the main part has adjusted the slow pitch accurately to make it easier to hear.

The same Copenhagen on the 25th, which was coupled at the same time, is monaural, not a stereo recording like the 21st, and it is different from that amazing sound pressure. However, this one has a well-balanced performance and vocals, and has the appeal of being good at clearness. What is missed here is the trouble that noise and noise enter from the start of the show to “Baby O’Riley”. It is presumed that this is not a deterioration of the tape but a problem of the recording equipment, but the sound image itself is still very clear, so it is surprisingly audible. And stable from “Behind Blue Eyes”.
The Zaza noise revived a little in “Magic Bus” in the middle of the live, but it soon converged. And the development of the performance seen after this song is amazing. First of all, Keith rampages lightly in this song, but instead of the heavyness of the stage after 1975, such lightness stands out.
More notable is the ad lib “Here Ain’t No Way Out” that Pete sang from “My Generation”. The lyrics he repeatedly shouted here were later used in the chorus of “However Much I Booze”. It’s a completely different song from that nimble song, but it was a valuable scene that captured the evidence that these improvisations hinted at later creations.
And at the end, Roger pulled to the finale “Long Live Rock”, and it was a day when the power relationship between the two frontmen was well balanced, and it is also valuable in that it captures it with very clear sound quality. Is expensive.
Until now, some CD-R items that coupled both days were released when the sound source appeared in 2010, but originally both sound sources are suitable for release on a press CD. It’s too much to close my eyes to the noise that was in the early part of the 25th. In addition, it is even more so if the freshness of both is improved by recording from the master. Powerful 21st and clear 25th. Although both are at the same venue, the famous sound source and performance of the 1972 tour that showed a completely different look is finally the realization of the long-awaited limited press CD release!

それ以上に注目なのは「My Generation」からピートが歌い出した「Here Ain’t No Way Out」というアドリブ。
