Early WHITESNAKE which embodied the ideal of British blues rock. A transcendental title for the ultimate in so-called “CLASSIC SNAKE” will appear on the permanent storage press 2CD + DVD.
Such an inscription is recorded in the super-superior stereo sound board of “August 26, 1979 + August 24, 1980 Reading Festival”. In addition, it is the DVD which made the main pro shot of “October 5, 1980 Washington performance”. Both are great classics among classics representing CLASSIC SNAKE, but this work is a super-abstract edition that achieves its highest peak.
That should be it. If you are keen, you’ll come with a pin in the title above, but this is an official production. However, it is not a copy of the official product. This is a mystery, but actually I get a master written “test” from my own route. It is what made it press. How is it a mystery? Let’s introduce each disk individually.
【Disc 1: Reading Festival 1979】
The first disk to appear is the biggest mystery disk. The master I received this time has no information, but the contents are definitely related to the official box “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. All three of the three are very similar to “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. However, this disc surpasses the official edition of the core. Suddenly, I got up, but let’s start with the basics, as “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” itself is not so famous.
“BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” is the official box released in 2011. After covering all official works from debut EP “SNAKEBITE” to “SAINTS & SINNERS”, it was an ultimate box that covered clips and pro shots of sound board live of 1979/1980 and CLASSIC SNAKE. However, David Cavadale who emphasizes the Geffen era is released as a limited edition only. Of course, it became sold out and discontinued in the blink of an eye on popular. It has been popular for the first time in 2013 as “LITTLE BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”, but a tragedy has occurred here. The reading festival and the professional shot collection DVDs that become the most popular roots have been scraped, and only regular albums that are rare or nothing recur. After all, only the half boxes, meaningless, are alive in the present.
And this work. Only three of the highlights cut in the recurrent edition of LITTLE are included. That alone is ugly, but actually it is more than that. In particular, the “Reading 79” of the disk 1 exceeds the former “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. As a matter of fact, the “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” version has a sound quality far exceeding the broadcast boot leg, and it is said to the enthusiasts all over the world that “a master before broadcast mix remained” and “this is appropriate for official” Although it caused great acclaim, it was not perfect. Somehow the pitch is slightly lower, and there is also distortion that seems to be master degradation in “Love Hunter” (deterioration that does not exist in the broadcast version famous for boot). However, because the basic sound quality surpassed the broadcast version, it was hardly regarded as a problem.
However, this “test” master does not have its drawbacks. The quality that amazed enthusiasts all over the world remains the same, and if the pitch is normal, the deterioration of “Love Hunter” is also repaired (it can not be affirmed, but it seems that it is probably not a supplement from the broadcast version). It is the ultimate live album, without any drawbacks. Was it an edit test at the time of the initial release, or was it a separate release plan for the minutes removed with “LITTLE”? I do not know the truth at all, but the ultimate stereo soundboard album beyond “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” officially released as a reality had existed.
【Disc 2: Reading Festival 1980】
Following the shocking “Reading 79”, the highest peak of the finest stereo soundboard album when I acted as a reading festival on the “August 24, 1980” the following year. This was a great performance from the broadcast version “LIVE … INTHE HEART OF THE COTY EXCEPT” “The ultimate of CLASSIC SNAKE”, but “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” version has a sound quality aspect But it was the ultimate. This is also a master written “test”, but here is very similar to the official version. There may be a difference somewhere (I’m sorry) but I did not find the difference.
However, even if it is the same as the official version, it must be a transcendent, a top, a top. The sound quality and the legendary intro have been added to the ensemble since 1979, just after joining Ian Pace, “Mistreated”, etc. You can enjoy the great performance known as “The Ultimate of CLASSIC SNAKE” with the highest quality ever recorded over the broadcast version.
One of the highlights is the multi-camera pro shot of “October 5, 1980 Washington Tour”. This video has also been known for some time, but this is the oldest pro-shot live of WHITESNAKE and the only CLASSIC SNAKE. It is hard to say that the image reflecting the valuable first time is an official product, but it is a master quality that is different in dimension from the existing group. Cavadale is a valuable archive, but he is a person who processes it and buys chopsticks from a mania, but his supervision of “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES” is not Cavadale but Barney Marsden. Because of that, the mania is finished in the honest highest ever highest edition of consent. In this work, the original “test” master street is pressed with a dual layer dual layer DVD.
Mystery calls a mystery The test master of “BOX ‘O’ SNAKES”. However, the content is CLASSIC SNAKE best, the best soundboard album, and pro shot collection as a background. While creating such a decisive work, I feel that the official side, which is out of print for some reason, only feels the teeth, but this work will clear up the regrets at once. 英国ブルースロックの理想を体現していた初期WHITESNAKE。いわゆる“CLASSIC SNAKE”の究極を究める超絶タイトルが永久保存プレス２CD＋DVDで登場です。
そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1979年８月26日＋1980年８月24日レディング・フェスティバル」の超極上ステレオ・サウンドボード録音。それに「1980年10月５日ワシントン公演」のプロショットをメインとしたDVDです。いずれもCLASSIC SNAKEを代表する定番中の大定番ですが、本作はその最高峰を極める超絶版なのです。
それもそのはず。鋭い方は上記のタイトルでピンと来ていらっしゃるでしょうが、本作はオフィシャル製作なのです。しかし、公式品のコピーというわけでもない。ここが謎なのですが、実は独自ルートから「test」と書き殴られたマスターを入手。それをプレス化したものなのです。それがどう謎なのか。各ディスクを個別にご紹介していきましょう。
【ディスク１：レディング・フェスティバル1979】
まず登場するディスク１こそ、最大の謎ディスク。今回、入手したマスターは何の情報もないのですが、その中身は公式ボックス『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』に関するものに間違いない。３枚が３枚ともすべてが『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』に酷似しているのです。しかし、このディスクは肝心の公式盤を凌駕している。いきなりまくし立てましたが、『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』自体があまり有名ではないので、まずは基礎から始めましょう。
『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』は、2011年にリリースされた公式ボックス。デビューEP『SNAKEBITE』から『SAINTS & SINNERS』までの全オフィシャル作品を網羅した上、1979年／1980年レディング・フェスティバルのサウンドボード・ライヴやCLASSIC SNAKEのクリップやプロショットを網羅した究極ボックスでした。ところが、ゲフィン時代を重視するデヴィッド・カヴァデールは、あくまで限定盤としてリリース。もちろん、大人気のうちに瞬く間に完売・廃盤となりました。その人気ぶりに2013年には早くも『LITTLE BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』として再発されますが、ここで悲劇が起きた。大人気の根源となるレディング・フェスティバルやプロショット集DVDが削られ、レアでも何でもない通常アルバムだけが再発。結局、何の意味もない中途半端なボックスだけが現行で生きている状況なのです。
そして、本作。再発版の『LITTLE』で削られた目玉の３枚だけが収録されているわけです。それだけでも凄いのですが、実はそれ以上。特にディスク１の「レディング79」は、かつての『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』を超えている。実のところ、『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』版は放送ブートレッグを遙かに超えるサウンド・クオリティで、世界中のマニアに「放送ミックス前のマスターが残っていたのか」「これぞ公式に相応しい」と大絶賛を巻き起こしましたものの、完全無欠でもなかった。なぜか微妙にピッチが低く、「Love Hunter」にはマスター劣化と思われる歪みもあったのです（ブートで有名な放送版には存在しない劣化）。しかし、基本のサウンド・クオリティが放送版を遙かに凌駕しているため、ほとんど問題視されなかったのです。
ところが、本作の「test」マスターには、その欠点がない。世界中のマニアを驚喜されたクオリティはそのままに、ピッチも正常なら「Love Hunter」の劣化も修繕されている（断言はできませんが、恐らく放送版からの補填ではないようです）。まさに何の欠点もない、究極のライヴアルバムなのです。初回リリース時の編集テストだったのか、それとも『LITTLE』で削られた分の個別リリース計画でもあったのか。その真実はまったく分かりませんが、現実として公式リリースされた『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』以上の究極ステレオサウンドボード・アルバムが現存していたのです。
【ディスク２：レディング・フェスティバル1980】
そんな衝撃の「レディング79」に続くのは、翌年「1980年８月24日」にレディング・フェスのトリを務めた際の極上ステレオサウンドボード・アルバムの最高峰。こちらは放送版からして「LIVE… INTHE HEART OF THE COTYを超える」「CLASSIC SNAKEの究極」と言われた名演中の大名演でしたが、『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』版はサウンド・クオリティ面でも究極でした。これも「test」と書き殴れたマスターなのですが、こちらは公式版に酷似。どこかしらに違いがあるのかも知れませんが（申し訳ないことに）違いを見つけられませんでした。
とは言え、もし仮に公式版と同じだったとしても超絶・極上・頂点には違いない。イアン・ペイス加入直後だった1979年を超えるアンサンブルにサウンド・クオリティ、そして伝説的なイントロが追加された「Mistreated」等々など。「CLASSIC SNAKEの究極」として知られる大名演を、放送版を超える史上最高峰クオリティで楽しめるのです。
【ディスク３：プロモ・クリップ＆唯一プロショットの最高峰版】
最後は“CLASSIC SNAKE”のプロショットを集成した映像集。これもまた『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』のテスト・マスターではあるものの、実際の公式版との違いは分かりませんでした。その内容はおおよそ３つのセクション「PV集」「TV出演」「ワシントン公演のプロショット」で構成。初期PVには公式商品とは思えないクオリティのものもありますが、これも実際の『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』と同じでした。しかし、基本的には各映像とも史上最高峰クオリティです。
そんな中で一番の見どころは「1980年10月５日ワシントン公演」のマルチカメラ・プロショット。この映像も以前から知られていましたが、これこそWHITESNAKE最古にして、CLASSIC SNAKE唯一となるプロショット・ライヴなのです。その貴重ぶりを反映した映像は公式商品とは言い難いものの、これまでの既発群とは次元が違うマスター・クオリティ。カヴァデールは貴重なアーカイヴでもやたら加工してマニアから顰蹙を買う人ですが、『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』の監修はカヴァデールではなくバーニー・マースデン。そのせいか、マニアも納得の素直な史上最高峰版に仕上がっている。本作ではオリジナルの「test」マスター通り、二層式のディアル・レイヤーDVDでプレスされています。
謎が謎を呼ぶ『BOX ‘O’ SNAKES』のテスト・マスター。しかし、その背景はともかくとして、内容はCLASSIC SNAKE最上・最高のサウンドボード・アルバムであり、プロショット集なのです。これほど決定的な作品を創り上げておきながら、なぜか廃盤にしているオフィシャル側には歯がゆさしか感じませんが、本作はその悔しみを一気に晴らしてくれる。FREE的なディープ・ヴォイス、初期FLEETWOOD MACを引き継いだブルース・テイスト、WISHBONE ASHのハーモニーも導入したツイン・アンサンブル……英国ブルースロックの粋となるCLASSIC SNAKE。その頂点作。どうぞ、永久保存プレス３枚組で心ゆくまでお楽しみください。
