ワムがヒットした要因は、爽やかな二人の若者のルックスもさることながら、何より楽曲の良さ、後のジョージ・マイケルのソロを聴くと、ワム時代は敢えて意図的に時代に即して楽曲を作っていたのだという事が伺えるが、 それだけ器用に様々なジャンルを手掛けることが出来るジョージの才能の一端を垣間見る思いである。 特にクリスマスの時期になるとリリースから30年経過した今でも定番として流れる「ラスト・クリスマス」、「抱きしめてジルバ」など数多くのカバーを輩出した「ケアレス・ウィスパー」など、スタンダードと化した名曲の多くもこの時期に生まれている。 アイドル的人気に加え、ミュージシャンとしての才能を伴っていた稀有な存在、なるべくしてスターになったと言えるのがワム！であった。

元々「ケアレス・ウィスパー」や「ディッフェレント・コーナー」などワムのアルバムに収録されてはいたものの、実質的のみならずクレジットもジョージ・マイケルのソロ名義であった。 ワムの音楽的な部分を担っていたのは紛れもなくジョージであった。お互いの力関係、関係性が、一体どのようなものであったかは第三者が知る由もないが、 ワムとして最後となった、その名も『The Final』というタイトルのアルバムがリリースされた時、アンドリューが、このアルバムのリリースと、それに伴うフェアウェル・ツアーをやった後にワムは解散すると宣言したのである。ワムとして最後のツアーは、このように解散を宣言した上でのフェアウェル・ツアーであった。

本作は、そのワム最後のツアーより、6月24日ロンドンはブリクストン・アカデミー公演をサウンドボードで完全収録している。 短い活動期間の人気絶頂の時に解散を選んだ希代のデュオの最後のツアーがサウンドボードで完全収録されている。しかも最後のツアーということで、代表曲を網羅したセットリストも完璧なものである。 オープニングは『Make It Big』収録の「恋のかけひき」である。スタジオ・バージョンを大幅にエキスパンドして倍近い長さとなっている。曲間では饒舌にMCを入れ、最後のツアーということでファンとの交流を楽しんでいるかのようだ。 2曲目は『ファンタスティック』より「クラブ・トロピカーナ」。アンドリューより“夏の歌だよ”と、このコンサートが行われた季節に則した紹介がなされる。サビの部分を聴衆に歌わせるなど盛り上がりがよく伝わってくる。「ハートビート」はジョージの澄み渡る伸びやかなハイトーンが魅力的な曲である。 スタジオだけではなくライヴにおいてもファルセットを交えこのように歌えるのは、ジョージが優れたヴォーカリストである何よりの証明であろう。「バトルステーション」は打ち込みのリズム・マシーンと女性コーラスがいかにも80年代的な時代を感じさせる。 「バッド・ボーイズ」はファースト・アルバムで最も印象的な楽曲で、フ～フ～の部分をレコードに合わせて歌った人も多いのではないか。そしてダンサンブルな曲の後に小休止と言ったところだろうか、静かなバラードの名曲「消えゆく思い」などを挟み、前半最後は「哀愁のメキシコ」である。 原題が「Where Did Your Heart Go」なのに、邦題が笑ってはいけない「哀愁のメキシコ」である。サックスの音色がなるほど哀愁を感じさせる歌謡曲の雰囲気である。 このコンサートは6月なのだが、「ラスト・クリスマス」はオリジナル通り“ハッピークリスマス”という呟きから再現されている。スタジオ・バージョンにあった効果音的なシャンシャンという鈴の音が入っておらず、キーボードが前面に出されたアレンジで、バックのチープな音色に対し、ジョージの歌声は実に素晴らしい。もうアカペラだけで通用する。

後半はもうジョージのヴォーカルが冴えわたる「ディッフェレント・コーナー」「フリーダム」「ケアレス・ウィスパー」の三連続である。特にアップテンポにアレンジし直された「フリーダム」はアドリブを入れつつコーラス・ワークと見事に合致した素晴らしい演奏となっている。 本編最後は「ウキウキ・ウェイクアップ」である。“ウキウキ”は原題にはない邦題側が勝手につけたものだが、曲の雰囲気を的確に表しており、その通りウキウキ楽しく盛り上がる曲である。そしてコンサートの最後は、ジョージがソロ・ツアーでも歌い続けている「I’m Your Man」である。

80年代を席巻したワム！の最後のツアーから、1986年6月24日ロンドンはブリクストン・アカデミー公演を高音質サウンドボードで完全収録。スタジオ・バージョンの完成度が高いため、なかなかライヴ・バージョンに接する機会もないであろうワムの貴重なファイナル・ツアーの音源である。視覚的効果が派手になりつつあった80年代はマドンナなどマイミングを使うアーティストも多かった中、ワムは生歌で、かつこの歌唱は凄過ぎる。 ジョージ・マイケルがいかに優れたヴォーカリストであったかが如実にわかる素晴らしいコンサートである。美しいピクチャー・ディスク仕様の永久保存がっちりプレス盤。日本語帯付。
