This is the history of the debut album “W.A.S.P.” Immediately after the release of the album, he went to Europe and also conducted his first UK tour. The London performance of this work was the sixth performance of such a “European” leg (the LD jacket says “October”, but to be exact, it is “September 24th”).
This work produced at such a show is a masterpiece in terms of quality. Since it is an official production, it is natural that it is official grade, but the master freshness is also overwhelming. At our shop, we have reprinted various discontinued images from Japanese laser discs, and this work is also one of the series. Currently, laserdisc media is destined to disappear, but there are still many masterpieces that have not been officially made into DVDs. This series is a project to leave such a masterpiece of laser disc in the ultimate quality. At that time, we discovered a Japanese-edition laser disc that was said to be “the best in the world” in terms of manufacturing quality and product lineup, and made it into a DVD. Even when digitizing, we thoroughly emphasize quality. Nowadays, it is difficult to obtain a decent laserdisc player, but we are using high-end equipment for professional use in partnership with an overseas digitalization manufacturer. We maximize the video and audio potential contained in the laser disc and transfer it to DVD with high quality that cannot be achieved with consumer devices.
The full show drawn with the beauty of the image is just a shock. At the opening, you can see the red bleeding peculiar to analog, but with the song, it becomes normal lighting, and after that, you can enjoy the beautiful image quality like digital photography in the whole story. As for the performance, all songs except “B.A.D.” will be shown from the debut album, and the debut EP “Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)” will be the villainous set, and “Gokudo Pop Rock’n Roll” will be unfolded one after another. It may be easier to hear if it is only sound, but the power of the image is still amazing. After all, Blackie Lawless wears tiger-striped knee-high boots with his hips exposed and a circular saw on his arms and crotch. And he shook his hair like a mountain, and also rampaged with Chris Holmes, who was bare ass.
Of course, it’s not just that the appearance is strange. In “Tormentor”, Blackie brought out an ax and raw meat in the middle of the performance, and when he thought that he started eating on the spot (it’s real …), he cut it into pieces and threw it toward the audience. Furthermore, when the box beside the stage is opened, a naked woman is hung inside (this is also not a doll …). You can see a grotesque and nasty show of killing the woman with a knife and returning to the performance. The following “School Daze” is also a wonderful hobby. After the guitar solo, cut the poster with a circular saw in his crotch and drink plenty of blood glue drawn with a skull. The amount is lightly three times that of Gene Simmons, and it overflows from the mouth and dyes Blackie’s half body bright red. After that, he sings in the form of a demon with his face covered in blood! sing! It’s just a “dirty KISS” and a “flying Alice Cooper” with a feather pillow. British kids who love theatrical are also crazy about this!

If you think about it, 1984, when W.A.S.P. caused a sensation, was the time when the head family KISS was trying to revive on the heavy metal route by removing make-up. これがデビュー・アルバム『W.A.S.P.』時代の歩み。アルバムの発売直後に渡欧しており、初の英国ツアーも実施。本作のロンドン公演は、そんな「欧州」レッグの６公演目にあたるコンサートでした（LDのジャケには「10月」となっていますが、正確には「９月24日」です）。
そんなショウで制作された本作はクオリティ面でも最高傑作。オフィシャル制作ですから公式級なのは当然ですが、さらにマスター鮮度も圧倒的。当店では日本盤レーザーディスクから様々な廃盤映像の数々を復刻してきましたが、本作もそのシリーズのひとつなのです。現在、消えゆく運命をひた走っているレーザーディスク・メディアですが、未だに公式にはDVD化されていない名作もたくさんあります。このシリーズは、そんなレーザーディスクの名作を究極クオリティで残すためのプロジェクト。当時、新メディアに積極的で製造品質も品揃えも「世界一」と言われた日本盤レーザーディスクを発掘、DVD化しているのです。デジタル化に際しても、徹底的にクオリティ重視。現在は、レーザーディスクのまともな再生機を入手するのも難しい時代となってしまいましたが、海外のデジタル化専門メーカーと提携し、プロユースのハイエンド機材を使用しているのです。レーザーディスクの中に封じ込められた映像・音声ポテンシャルを最大限に引き出し、民生機では及びも付かないハイクオリティでDVDに移し替えているのです。
その映像美で描かれるフルショウは、まさに衝撃。オープニングこそアナログ特有の赤色の滲みも見られますが、歌入りと共に普通の照明になり、それ以降はデジタル撮影のような美麗画質が全編で堪能できます。演目もデビューアルバムから「B.A.D.」以外の全曲を披露し、デビューEPの「Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)」で締めるという極悪セットで、“極道ポップなロックンロール”が次々と繰り広げられます。音だけだと聴きやすかったりもしますが、やはり映像の威力は凄い。なにしろ、ブラッキー・ローレスは虎縞のニーハイブーツに、尻を丸出しで、腕や股間には丸ノコ付き。そして、山んばのように髪を振り乱しながら、やはり尻出しのクリス・ホルムズと共に暴れまくるのです
もちろん、格好が奇異なだけではありません。「Tormentor」では、演奏途中でブラッキーが斧と生肉を持ち出し、その場で食い始めた（本物なんだ……）かと思ったら、客席に向けて千切っては投げ、千切っては投げ。さらに、ステージ脇の箱を開けると、中には裸の女性が吊されている（これも人形じゃない……）。その女性をナイフでいたぶり殺して演奏に戻るという、何ともグロテスクでえげつないショウが見られます。さらに続く「School Daze」も素晴らしく悪趣味。ギターソロのあと、ポスターを股間の丸ノコで切り裂き、髑髏で汲んだ血糊をたっぷりと飲む。その量たるや、軽くジーン・シモンズの３倍はあり、口から溢れ出してブラッキーの半身を真っ赤に染め上げる。その後も、顔面中を血まみれにしたまま鬼の形相で歌う！歌う！　羽毛枕までぶちまけ、まさに「汚いKISS」、「ブッ飛んだアリス・クーパー」です。これには、シアトリカル大好きな英国キッズも大狂喜!!

思えば、W.A.S.P.がセンセーションを巻き起こした1984年と言えば、本家KISSはメイクを落としてヘヴィメタル路線で再起を図っていた時代。ジーンも火こそ噴いてはいましたが、血を吐かなくなっていました。そんな中、ポップなロックンロールをKISS以上の“えげつなさ”で包んだ魅せたW.A.S.P.。その思い切りの良い悪趣味ぶりは、まるで「KISSがやらないなら、俺たちがやる！」と宣言するかのような清々しいパフォーマンスです。この２年後、ショックロックの大御所アリス・クーパーもヘヴィメタルに転向した「CONSTRICTOR」で復活を遂げました。W.A.S.P.の登場がアリスに渇を入れたのかは分かりませんが、そうであってもおかしくないほど、堂に入ったショックロックなのです。
そんなW.A.S.P.の歴史上でも、もっともセンセーショナルだったデビュー直後のオフィシャル映像。それを世界最高クオリティで蘇らせた本作は、“ショックロック”というジャンル全体の金字塔です。正直申し上げて、バンドの人気度から見ても本作が大ヒットになることはないでしょう。しかし、それでも未来にどうしても残しておきたい名作ライヴなのです。悪趣味でえげつなく、良識のある人なら眉をひそめるからこそ素晴らしい。そんなロックシーンの影の大名作。ぜひ、この機会にご体験ください。
