WARRANT, a male hair metal who made a big heyday with consecutive hits of “Money Game” and “Cherry Pie”. Introducing a super-best professional shot that allows you to witness their performance in Japan.
This work was filmed at the “April 21, 1991: Nakano Sunplaza” performance. This is the multi-camera pro shot. I’m sure many of you are already coming, but this show was also broadcast on TV at that time, and its air check has become a big staple. This work is the same pro shot, but it is the highest peak version that is completely different from the previous Aircheck Masters. It is a pre-broadcast version that is directly digitized from commercial VHS obtained through its own route.
Although it is said to be a “pre-broadcast master” in a bite, it is actually a wide variety. Some of them are in the work stage with a camera split test and a time counter, and some are in the work stage where you do not know what is different from the actual broadcast. Among them, this work is the latter. The camera split and mix are perfectly finished, and the only difference from the broadcast version is that there are no logos such as “stereo” or telops.
Of course, such a difference is just proof of the pre-broadcast master, and the true value of this work is the quality itself. The analog feeling of the shooting itself cannot be wiped out due to the historical pattern, but the master freshness that has never been transmitted via radio waves is enormous. The vivid details of the late Jani Lane’s shining blonde and a drop of dripping sweat, and the coloring without fading or bleeding are the same at that time. Of course, even when digitizing, we are facing a meticulous and high-end environment, and there is no tape twist or tracking noise. That’s the beauty of an official video.

『マネーゲーム』『いけないチェリーパイ』の連続ヒットで一大全盛を築いたヘアメタルの雄、WARRANT。そんな彼らの来日公演を目撃できる超・極上プロショットが登場です。
そんな本作が撮影されたのは「1991年4月21日:中野サンプラザ」公演。そのマルチカメラ・プロショットです。もうピンと来ていらっしゃる方も多いと思いますが、このショウは当時TV放送もされ、そのエアチェックが大定番となってきました。本作も同じプロショットではあるのですが、これまでのエアチェック・マスター群とはまったく次元の異なる最高峰版。独自ルートで入手した業務用VHSからダイレクトにデジタル化した放送前バージョンなのです。
一口に「放送前マスター」とは言っても、実は多種多様。中にはカメラ割りテストやタイムカウンターが入った作業段階のものから、実際の放送と何が違うのか分からないものまで様々です。その中で本作は思いっきり後者。カメラ割りもミックスも完璧に仕上がっており、放送バージョンと違うのは「ステレオ」などのロゴやテロップ等がない事くらいです。
もちろん、そうした違いはあくまで放送前マスターの証拠に過ぎず、本作の真価はクオリティそのもの。時代柄、撮影自体のアナログ感は拭えませんが、一度も電波を介していないマスター鮮度は絶大。故ジェイニー・レインの輝くブロンド1本や滴る汗の一滴まで鮮やかなディテールも、色あせも滲みもない発色も当時そのもの。もちろん、デジタル化に際しても細心・ハイエンドの環境で臨んでおり、テープヨレやトラッキング・ノイズの類も皆無。それこそ公式ビデオのような美しさなのです。
そして、その映像美で甦るショウはヘアメタルの極地となるフルショウ。まずは当時のスケジュールを振り返り、ショウのポジションを確認しておきましょう。

以上、全4公演。前1990年4月の初来日は事故によってショウが中断してしまいましたが、約半年後の再来日では見事に完遂。本作の中野サンプラザ公演は、そんなリベンジ・ツアーの最終日でもあったわけです。また、その半年の間には『いけないチェリーパイ』も大ヒット。本作では2大代表作の濃縮還元ともなりました。その豪華ぶりを実感していただくためにも、ここでセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。日本盤ボーナストラックだった「Thin Disguise」も含め、『いけないチェリーパイ』から9曲の大盤振る舞い。そこにデビュー作の必殺曲や美味しいカバーで回りを固めたスタイルです。もちろん、単にセレクトが豪華なだけでなく1回のショウならではの自然な流れが素晴らしく、1曲1曲もステージテンションでアップグレードしている。「動くベスト盤」でありつつ、それ以上のハイエナジーに彩られたWARRANTの最高傑作ともなる1枚なのです。
