某国内衛星放送が90年代初頭に放送した「ロック映像年鑑　ハードロックの軌跡」と題された約90分の特番を、当時のエアチェック映像としては最高レベルの高画質で収録。元は1991年にイギリスのCCTVが企画制作したもので、当時、レーザーディスクやVHSビデオソフトもリリースされていたので、ご覧になられていたファンも多いのではないでしょうか。公式と違い、冒頭には有名日本人実業家・ディレクターのイントロが挿入されています。英皇太子の略称である「HRH」（His Royal Highness)をもじったタイトル（「Hard Rock Heaven」）の本作は、タイトル通りのバリバリのハードロックの嵐かと思えば、さにあらず、60年代から70年代にかけての大物バンドの映像がズラリと並んでおり、当店の一般のロック・ファンの方でも十分に楽しめる内容になっています。ジミヘンをハードロックと位置付けるのは何となくわかりますが、クリーム、初期ジェフ・ベック・グルーブ、はてはローリング・ストーンズまでもハードロックのカテゴリーに入れてしまう、外人セレクションの大雑把さ、はたまた節操のなさが逆に面白かったりします。しかし、ここまで「クラシック・ロック」に徹していながらなぜかちゃっかりホワイトスネイクのGuilty Of Love（しかもストックホルム84！！サイクス、コージー、ジョン・ロードでバリバリ！）、極悪モーターヘッドのAce Of Spades、更にはモーターヘッド＆ガール・スクールのコラボ「Motorgirl」が挿入されており、比較的落ち着いた面々の中で、明らかに80’Sな異彩を放っています。全てのバンドが一曲ずつの収録なのにAC/DCだけはHighway To HellとWhole Lotta Rosie２曲入ってますが、この大名曲２つは「Hard Rock Heaven: The Best Of Hard Rock」の名において、イギリス人メタルファンとしては外すことはできなかったのでしょう。なんでもyoutubeとかで気軽に観れる今の時代には考えられないことですが、当時はこういったクラシックロックのプロモ集と言うのは意外に重宝されており、公式VHSソフト、レーザー・ディスクが結構な値段で普通にレコード店に並んでいました。そんな時代を懐かしく思い出させてくれる英国独自のセレクションによる「ベスト・オブ・ハードロック」を是非、大変貴重な日本テレビ放送版で、今宵たっぷりとお楽しみ下さい。
