A one-shot distribution event of “LIVE AID”, which has become a hot topic in 2022. 2 luxury set titles that have the whole picture on DVD will be urgently released at the same time!
This work is the second part of a blockbuster with 2 titles and a total of 10 discs. Of course, it is the largest music event “LIVE AID” in history held on “July 13, 1985”. Even now, there is an official channel on Youtube, but in 2002 the number of channel subscribers exceeded 1 million. To commemorate this, a non-stop streaming event “One Million Subscribers Event” was held from “December 28, 21:00” Japan time. The total delivery of more than 10 hours is divided into 10 parts, and this work is a 5-disc set in which parts 6 to 10 are arranged on each disc.
As I mentioned in the explanation of the first part “VOL.1”, the biggest point this time is the master quality unique to the official, and the number of songs far exceeding the official DVD. The official DVD box was about 7 hours and 45 minutes (excluding bonus content) for 4 discs, but this work has 2 sets and 10 discs for a total of 10 hours and 13 minutes. The second part contains 29 sets and 71 songs, but let’s pick up only the songs that can’t be seen on the official DVD.

… and it looks like this. There were more songs not included in the official DVD in the first part “VOL.1”, but there are more highlights in this work. Both the event’s biggest hero QUEEN and the two major highlights “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” For example, THE WHO. It is also famous for the worldwide broadcasting accident that occurred in “My Generation”, but in this work, the part where the image is disturbed is connected with the audience shot of the day, and it is neatly arranged. It’s a must-see in the sense that it’s simply beautiful, but it’s also super valuable in the sense that you can see the real audience’s point of view at the time.
Speaking of broadcast accidents, Freddie Mercury & Brian May’s “Is This The World We Created?” followed by Paul McCartney’s “Let It Be”. In the live broadcast at that time, the staff’s voice was mixed in and the microphone was blown out and it was in a miserable state, but this work has been fixed like the official DVD. Also, SIMPLE MINDS’ “Promised You A Miracle” that could not be fixed. The voice cut off at the end of the song, and it seems that there is no voice master left. In this work, that part is covered with Jim Carr’s commentary (recorded in 2020) to restore a valuable scene.
Speaking of valuables, documentary footage that tells the story of starvation is also important. It seems that it has been open to the public since 1985, but the ghastly sight is still shocking to the eyes. Disagreeable. Since the invasion of Ukraine, it is said that the food crisis is imminent, so it is also a scene that makes you feel a deep sense of crisis that is not someone else’s problem.
Although the “One Million Subscribers Event” reprinted historical footage using as many methods as possible, the full version of the event was not actually realized this time either. I think there are some people who were misunderstood by the introduction of “complete music of Live Aid” in the pre-announcement, so I will post the number of songs that were not delivered in the second half below.

“It’s a pity that the full version didn’t come true.” It would have been a great achievement if LED ZEPPELIN alone was reprinted with official quality. In any case, you can still enjoy the number of songs and volume that far exceeds the official DVD box, and the sight is still unprecedented. A 5-disc set of the second part packed full of the spectacle of the gigantic event that was one of the largest in the history of human music. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content!

2022年遅れに話題をさらった“LIVE AID”の一挙配信イベント。その全貌をDVD化した豪華セット２タイトルが緊急・同時リリース決定です！
そんな本作は、２タイトル・合計10枚組に及ぶ超大作の後編。収められているのは、もちろん「1985年７月13日」に行われた歴史上最大級の音楽イベント“LIVE AID”です。現在でもYoutubeに公式チャンネルがあるのですが、2002年にはチャンネル登録者数が100万人を突破。その記念として、日本時間“12月28日21:00”からノンストップ・ストリーミング・イベント“One Million Subscribers Event”を実施しました。トータル10時間以上に及ぶ配信は10パートに分けられており、本作はそのパート６からパート10までをディスク１枚ずつに配した５枚組なのです。
前編「VOL.1」の解説でも触れましたが、今回最大のポイントはオフィシャルならではのマスター・クオリティで、公式DVDを遙かに超える曲数ボリュームを楽しめる事。公式DVDボックスは４枚組で約７時間45分（ボーナス・コンテンツ除く）だったわけですが、本作は２セット・10枚組で合計10時間13分に及ぶのです。後編である29組・71曲が収められていますが、その中から公式DVDで観られない曲だけピックアップしてみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。公式DVDの未収録曲は前編「VOL.1」の方が多かったのですが、見どころは本作の方が多い。イベント最大の英雄QUEENや２大ハイライト「Do They Know It’s Christmas?」「We Are The World」がどちらも本作収録ですが、それだけではなく、本放送とは違う点も数多いのです。例えば、THE WHO。「My Generation」で全世界的に放送事故が起きた事でも有名ですが、本作では映像が乱れたパートを当日のオーディエンス・ショットで繋ぎ、綺麗に整っている。単に美しいという意味でも必見ですが、当時のリアルな観客視点が観られるという意味でも超貴重です。
さらに放送事故と言えば、フレディ・マーキューリー＆ブライアン・メイの「Is This The World We Created?」と、それに続くポール・マッカートニーの「Let It Be」。当時の生放送ではスタッフの声が混じってしまったり、マイクが思いっきり飛んでしまって悲惨な状態になっていましたが、本作は公式DVDと同様に直されています。また、直しきれなかったのがSIMPLE MINDSの「Promised You A Miracle」。曲の終盤で音声が途切れてしまい、音声マスターも残っていないそう。本作では、そのパートにジム・カーのコメンタリー（2020年収録版）を被せ、貴重なシーンを復元しています。
また貴重と言えば、飢餓の様子を伝えるドキュメンタリー映像も重要。1985年以来の公開だと思われますが、その凄惨な光景は今の目にも衝撃的。いや。ウクライナ侵攻以降、食糧危機が迫っていると言われている現代だからこそ、他人事ではない深い危機感を覚えるシーンでもあるのです。
可能な限りの手法で歴史的映像を復刻している“One Million Subscribers Event”ではありますが、実は今回もイベントの完全版は実現しませんでした。事前アナウンスで「complete music of Live Aid」と紹介されて誤解されている方もいらっしゃると思いますので、以下に後半パートで未配信だった曲数を掲載しておきます。

返す返すも完全版が実現しなかったのは惜しい。LED ZEPPELINだけでもオフィシャル級クオリティで復刻されたら快挙だったのですが……。ともあれ、公式DVDボックスを遙かに超える曲数ボリュームが楽しめる事には変わりなく、その見応えはやはり空前絶後です。人類の音楽史でも最大級だった超巨大イベントのスペクタクルがタップリ詰まった後編５枚組。どうぞ、心ゆくまで存分に味わい尽くしてください！
