The sound board album of flame, which is said to be equal to or better than the famous board of the century “Van Halen”, is reprinted. It will be restocked with a permanent storage press CD.
The engraving on this work is “April 3, 1978 Wichita performance”. It is the transcendental stereo sound board recording. At the time this work was excavated, this day was not listed in the tour schedule at that time, and the existence itself was unknown. It is one that shook the collector’s world when you can enjoy such a mysterious show with a sound board directly connected to the brain.
The biggest point is the transcendent and intense sound, but first of all, the position. Let’s check from the big picture of their first world tour.

This is the outline of the debut tour that has revolutionized the whole world. At our shop, the sound board trilogy “DEFINITIVE HAMMERSMITH 1978 (Zodiac 296)” “DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978 (Zodiac 298)” “DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978 (Zodiac 299)” containing the first UK tour has been very popular. However, the Wingswich performance of this work is even earlier. It was the 27th concert of “North America # 1” that started immediately after the release of “Van Halen”.
This work containing such a show is just the best real sound board. It’s not just a clean feeling like a broadcast sound source, but a direct connection system where the band itself trespasses into the brain with bare feet. The trembling skin of the drums comes to my eyes, and the vocals breathe between scat singers. The bass and guitar are so directly connected that you can even feel the unevenness of the strings. To be honest, the audience’s enthusiasm seems to be directly connected to the table, so it’s not like the scene, but the sound says, “What’s wrong with that!” The “Van Halen” itself … No, it synchronizes with the band potential that explodes more than that, so it’s a pleasure that can’t be replaced with anything. Mania around the world is in a turmoil just because of such a fierce sound board, but this work is even more meticulous mastering. The pitch, which was crazy about 1/4 note, was adjusted accurately to create a powerful and unrivaled direct feeling even more vividly.
The show drawn with that sound is the “live performance fuse”. The repertoire of “Van Halen II” was also performed on the above-mentioned UK tour and Japan performance, but this work is not earlier than that. All songs except “Jamie’s Cryin'” and “Feel Your Love Tonight” were performed at the “Van Halen” number. Everything has been upgraded with the hyper tension of the main stage, and it literally blows out from the speaker with the momentum of being “struck”. The only exception to this is Eddie Cochran’s cover “Summertime Blues.” It’s also a repertoire before debut, but it’s not just a rare song, but the original mood is amazing. With a guitar solo in between, “Ice Cream Man” and “You Really Got Me” are played with three duets on the cover, and it is as fierce as the classic “You Really Got Me”. “D.O.A.” and “Bottoms Up!”, Which will be the endings after the middle of the tour, are also good, but “Summertime Blues” is far more primitive. That is the very early scent that is directly linked to before its debut.
And, for some reason, VAN HALEN itself is abnormal. The British trilogy mentioned above was enthusiastic about “the first European expedition”, but this work is also the first place. Before their debut, they were active around the local west coast, but this work is in Kansas, in the middle of the continent. Even in the United States, the land is more than 2,000 kilometers away, and it is my first experience wherever I go. Not to mention the MC who has a perfect feeling of meeting for the first time, the enthusiasm to prove their music with each song is tremendous. And the on-site mood to witness it is also exquisite. I wrote earlier that “it’s not a field experience”, but I understand that even if it’s a little small, the enthusiasm is fierce. I don’t know what kind of venue the “POGO’S NIGHT CLUB” was, but it’s probably a small basement-level club. It’s so narrow that you can only think of it, and you can feel the feeling of a closed room with your skin. It’s a live album that burns your brain.

Even earlier and more primitive than the popular British soundboard trilogy. The power of the debut tour, the feeling of a closed room because of the club, and the feeling of synchronization because of the direct connection. It is a superb stereo sound board album that has all of them. The real thrill of this work is the real thrill of listening to rock music. It is no exaggeration to say that this is a transcendental work. Here is a dignified reprint with the 2nd press.

そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1978年４月３日ウィチタ公演」。その超絶級ステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。本作が発掘された当時、この日は当時のツアー日程にも載っておらず、存在自体が知られていなかったコンサート。そんなミステリアスなショウが脳みそド直結のサウンドボードで味わえるとコレクター界を震撼させた１枚なのです。
その最大のポイントは超絶な激烈サウンドにあるわけですが、まずはポジション。彼ら初のワールドツアー全体像から確認してみましょう。

これが全世界に革命を振りまいたデビュー・ツアーの概要。当店では、初の英国ツアーを収めたサウンドボード３部作『DEFINITIVE HAMMERSMITH 1978（Zodiac 296）』『DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978（Zodiac 298）』『DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978（Zodiac 299）』が大好評を博しておりますが、本作のウィチタ公演は、さらにグッと初期。『炎の導火線』リリース直後から始まった「北米#1」27公演目のコンサートでした。
そんなショウを収めた本作は、まさに極上のリアル・サウンドボード。放送音源のように整えられた小綺麗感などまるでなく、バンドそのものが土足で脳みそにズカズカと不法侵入してくる卓直結系。ドラムは震える皮が目に浮かび、ヴォーカルはスキャットの合間の呼吸もリアル。ベースやギターに至っては弦の凹凸までも感じられるほどにド直結なのです。正直なところ、卓直結らしく観客の熱狂は遠い彼方にあるので現場感覚とはいかないわけですが、「それがどうした！」と音が言ってきやがる。『炎の導火線』そのものの……いえ、それ以上に炸裂するバンド・ポテンシャルとシンクロするのですから、何物にも代え難い快感なのです。それだけの激烈サウンドボードだけに世界中のマニアが騒然となっていますが、本作はさらに細心マスタリング。1/4音ほど狂っていたピッチを正確に整え、強力無比なダイレクト感をさらに鮮やかに描き出しました。
そのサウンドで描かれるショウは、それこそ「生演奏の導火線」。前述の英国ツアーや日本公演では『伝説の爆撃機』のレパートリーも演奏されましたが、それより初期にあたる本作ではなし。『炎の導火線』ナンバーの一気呵成でして「Jamie’s Cryin’」「Feel Your Love Tonight」以外の全曲を披露。そのことごとくが本生ステージのハイパー・テンションでアップグレードしており、文字通りに「叩きつけられる」勢いでスピーカーから吹き出す。そんな中で唯一の例外とも言えるのがエディ・コクランのカバー「Summertime Blues」。デビュー前のレパートリーでもあるわけですが、単なるレア曲ではなく、原初ムードが凄い。ギターソロを挟みつつ、「Ice Cream Man」「You Really Got Me」とカバー３連弾で演奏され、ド定番「You Really Got Me」にも負けない激烈ぶり。ツアー中期以降でエンディングを務める「D.O.A.」「Bottoms Up!」も良いのですが、「Summertime Blues」の方が遙かにプリミティブ。それこそデビュー以前と直結する極初期の匂いがムンムンなのです。
そして、何によりVAN HALEN自体が異常。先述した英国３部作は「初のヨーロッパ遠征」の意欲に燃えていましたが、本作もまた初めての地。デビュー前の彼らは地元の西海岸周辺で活動していましたが、本作は大陸ド真ん中のカンザス州。アメリカ国内といえど、2,000キロ以上離れた土地であり、行く先々が初体験。初対面感満点のMCはもちろん、１曲１曲で自分達の音楽を証明していく熱気が凄まじいのです。そして、それを目の当たりにする現場ムードも絶品。先ほど「現場体験とはいかない」と書きましたが、うっすら小さくても熱狂が苛烈なのはよく分かる。現場となった“POGO’S NIGHT CLUB”がどんな会場なのかは寡聞にして分かりませんが、恐らくは小さな地下室レベルのクラブなのでしょう。そうとしか思えないほど狭く、猛烈な密室感が肌感覚で伝わってくる。脳がヒリヒリと火傷するようなライヴアルバムなのです。

大人気の英国サウンドボード３部作よりも更に初期で、更にプリミティヴ。デビューツアーだからこその力業、クラブだからこその密室感、卓直結だからこそのシンクロ感。そのすべてが揃った超極上ステレオサウンドボード・アルバムです。本作の醍醐味は、ロックを聴く醍醐味そのもの。そう言っても過言ではない超絶なる１作。ここに2ndプレスで堂々の復刻です。
