VAN HALEN in 1986 was a great success after hitting a big game with “5150” which changed the direction. The gift release decision is a masterpiece video that allows you to experience the full show at its best.
This work was filmed at “May 10, 1986 Detroit Performance”. It is the superb view audience shot. Speaking of “5150 TOUR” with Sammy Hagar, the official video “LIVE WITHOUT A NET” is more famous than anything else. At the same time, let’s first confirm the position of the show from the overall picture of the tour.

<< March 24, “5150” released >>
・ March 27-May 31: North America # 1 (47 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ June 28-September 1: North America # 2 (40 performances) ← * Official LIVE WITHOUT A NET
・ September 5: MTV VIDEO AWARDS
・ September 27-November 3: North America # 3 (24 performances)

This is VAN HALEN in 1986. “LIVE WITHOUT A NET” is in the middle of the schedule, with a schedule of three major laps only in North America. On the other hand, the Detroit performance of this work is the 32nd performance of “North America # 1” at the beginning. Detroit had three consecutive performances, and this work was the middle day of the performance.
This work recorded at such a show is truly a magnificent view. The angle is from the stand seat on the right side of the stage (Eddie side) to the naname, but whether it was the front row of the second floor seats or the steep slope of the stand seats, there is no shield that blocks the front. Only the stage occupies the field of view, and you can witness the full show with the immersive feeling of “VAN HALEN and yourself”.
Furthermore, the camera work is amazing. Anyway, zooming in / out is quick, and the sense of stability is also outstanding. Both Eddie and Sammy are running around the stage narrowly, but the point is not to chase them while keeping the zoom. Zoom out once (at super speed) to get a panoramic view, aim and zoom in (at super speed). This technique is very effective. With equipment at that time that did not have a camera shake prevention function, it was a common mistake to shake the camera while zooming to cause blurring. However, because this work repeats “pulling → approaching”, the highlight can be suppressed while maintaining a sense of stability with almost no camera shake. Moreover, since you can grasp the entire stage (without being aware of it), you will not get tired of it, and the active changes in the field of view will suit the dynamism of hard rock. Even though it is a single turtle, it has achieved a spectacular appearance comparable to that of a multi-camera.
What is drawn in such an active video is a valuable full show of the daimyo board “5150” number large board behavior. As mentioned above, “LIVE WITHOUT A NET” is a symbol, so let’s organize it while comparing.

LIVE WITHOUT A NET
MTV VIDEO AWARDS
