The world tour “F.U.C.K./RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW TOUR”, which was the largest in the Sammy Hagar era. A masterpiece video that can be said to be a supplement to “LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW” will be released as a gift.
This work was shot at “December 4, 1991 Texas performance”. This is a multi-camera pro shot that contains the pattern of an outdoor free concert. This video has been famous as a professional shot representing the tour from that time, but this work is the highest peak version. This is the definitive edition with improved quality by adding sound checks and interview scenes. Before touching on the contents, first of all, the position of the show. This is VAN HALEN from 1991 to 1993. There are more “BALANCE TOUR” on a yearly basis, but it was a long tour that could be called the pinnacle of the Sammy era, with a total length of over two years and a total of more than 160 performances. Among them, the Texas performance of this work is the third performance of “North America # 3”. It was a concert about half a year before the official work “LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW”.
The first thing that appears after playing this work is a sound check video. The stage, which seems to be specially set up on the street, has a completely different atmosphere from the usual halls and stadiums. It seems that 5,000 people gathered on the day, but the crowd that fills the city during the day is almost like a festival. In this sound check and the following interview, I’m worried about the image quality that flew white like repeated dubbing, but when it comes to the main part of the live, the quality is improved. As the time counter is on the screen, the leaked video on the staff side has excellent coloring, and you can see plenty of professional shots with beautiful image quality without scratch noise.
This “outflow feeling” is the taste of this work. Unlike official works such as “LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW” that have been gorgeously polished, the rough and raw performances and recordings are irresistibly cool. Of course, the sound is also the best sound board, but the direct feeling that it is directly connected to the table and the plug is stuck in the ear is vivid. Without decorating with effects, the subtleties of live performances are poured into the sound of rubbing the strings in an ultra-realistic way.

The song became a CD bonus track for “OU812”, but it was one of the most played on stage. If you can listen to even the audience recording, you will be able to watch a super rare song called Lucky with a multi-camera pro shot.
Of course, the performance of spinning such a set is wonderful. Not to mention Sammy Hagar who barks hotly and Eddie Van Halen who flips down freely, these two people hug on the street stage during the day and mischief on their bangs. そんな本作が撮影されたのは「1991年12月４日テキサス公演」。野外フリーコンサートの模様を収めたマルチカメラ・プロショットです。この映像は当時からツアーを代表するプロショットとして有名でしたが、本作はその最高峰版。サウンドチェックとインタビューシーンを追加し、クオリティアップした決定版です。その内容に触れる前に、まずはショウのポジション。サミー時代最大・最長のツアー全景から振り返ってみましょう。

これが1991年-1993年のVAN HALEN。１年単位では“BALANCE TOUR”の方が多いのですが、丸２年に及ぶ長さも合計160公演を超える場数もサミー時代の頂点と呼ぶに相応しい長大なツアーでした。その中で本作のテキサス公演は「北米#3」の３公演目。公式作品『LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW』の約半年前となるコンサートでした。
そんな本作を再生して最初に登場するのは、サウンドチェック映像。街頭に特設されたと思われるステージは、いつものホールやスタジアムとはまるで違う雰囲気。当日は5,000人が集まったそうですが、日中の街中を埋め尽くす群衆は、ほとんどお祭りのようなムードです。このサウンドチェックと続くインタビューは、ダビングを重ねたような白く飛んだ画質が気になってしまいますが、ライヴ本編になると各段にクオリティアップ。画面にタイムカウンターが入っている通りスタッフ側の流出映像で、発色も素晴らしく、スクラッチノイズすらない美麗画質のプロショットがたっぷりと観られるのです。
この“流出感覚”が本作の旨み。『LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW』のようにゴージャスに磨き上げられたオフィシャル作品とは違い、荒っぽいまでに生々しい演奏と収録がたまらなくカッコイイのです。もちろん、サウンドも極上のサウンドボードですが、いかにも卓直結で耳にプラグを突っ込んだようなダイレクト感が鮮烈。エフェクトで飾り立てることなく、生演奏の機微が弦をこする音に至るまで超リアルに流し込まれるのです。
そんなクオリティで描かれるのは、『F@U#C%K』時代のカラーが濃厚でありながら『LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW』とはひと味もふた味も違うショウ。ここで公式作品と比較しつつセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。本作では11曲が収録されていますが、その半数以上が『LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW』とは異なるのです。特にポイントなのは「A Apolitical Blues」。『OU812』のCDボーナス・トラックとなった曲ですが、ステージ演奏されたのは指折り数えられる程度。オーディエンス録音でさえ聴けたらラッキーという激レア曲をマルチカメラ・プロショットで観れてしまうのです。
もしろん、そんなセットを紡ぐパフォーマンスこそが素晴らしい。熱く吠えるサミー・ヘイガー、変幻自在に弾き倒すエディ・ヴァン・ヘイレンはもちろん、この２人が日中の街頭ステージで抱きついたり、前髪に悪戯したり……。適切な表現なのか分かりませんが、“仲睦まじく”じゃれ合いながらロックする。今となっては、遠い記憶になってしまった光景が鮮明に映し出されていきます。
