This work recorded at such a show is a traditional masterpiece recording that has represented the “WORLD INVASION Tour” since the analog era. There used to be an incomplete version of the LP-raised CD on the market, but this work is a different version of the highest peak. It is a complete version that includes the last “You Really Got Me”, and the sound is also the best master of the past. In fact, the sound is excellent. Although it is a vintage audience with hiss noise, the master freshness is outstanding. The powerful core penetrates the clear and clear air straight, and the contours of the fine parts are clear.
All the notes are vivid, but the one that is particularly surprising is the base. When I listen to it, I feel that the power of the deep bass is not so great, but this is not off. Rather, the contour of the base is tough and roars. Since there is little low-pitched hall sound, there is no blurring or bleeding, and you can clearly see that each attack sound is connected like beads and draws a bass line. Of course, the bass is just an example, and if the guitar and drums are vivid, the vocals are well separated from the chorus. Speaking of 1980, the sound board of the Lago performance is also famous, but to be clear, it is not a match. It is a famous recording that has become a legend.

以上、オールキャリアで全44回だったイギリス公演。デビュー以降、普通にワールドツアーを行ってきたわけですが、“WORLD INVASION Tour”を期に北米中心に転向。４年後のMOR出演はあったものの、ほとんどライヴを行わなくなるのです。本作のロンドン公演は、欧州侵攻から手を引く寸前でもあったわけです。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、アナログ時代から“WORLD INVASION Tour”を代表してきた伝統の名録音。かつてはLP起こしの不完全版CDが出回った事もありましたが、本作はそれとは異なる最高峰版。ラストの「You Really Got Me」まで収録した完全版であり、サウンドも過去となるベスト・マスターなのです。実際、そのサウンドは絶品。ヒスノイズもあるヴィンテージ・オーディエンスではありますが、マスター鮮度はバツグン。クリアに晴れ渡った空気感を力強い芯が真っ直ぐに貫き、微細部の輪郭までクッキリ。
すべてのノートが鮮やかなのですが、特に驚きなのがベース。パッと聴くと重低音の迫力はそれほどでもないようにも感じるのですが、これはオフなのではない。むしろ、ベースの輪郭が強靱でバッキバキのゴリッゴリに轟く。低音のホール鳴りが少ないためにボケや滲みがまるでなく、１つひとつのアタック音が数珠のように連なり、ベースラインを描いているのがハッキリと分かるのです。もちろん、ベースはあくまでも一例であり、ギターもドラムも鮮やかならヴォーカルもデイヴとコーラスが綺麗に分離している。1980年と言えば、ラーゴ公演のサウンドボードも有名ですが、ハッキリ言って勝負にならない。まさに伝説になるべくしてなった名録音なのです。
そんなクリア・サウンドで描かれるのは、貴重な“WORLD INVASION Tour”のフルショウ。流れでラーゴ公演サウンドボードも出てきましたが、あれはあくまで不完全版。ここで比較しながら整理してみましょう。

「Bright Lights, Big City」も1980年だけですし、前作の「Women In Love…」「Light Up The Sky」にしても30年以上封印されてしまうレパートリー。デビューから連綿と続く爆テンションはそのままに、美味しい貴重曲をクリア・サウンドでお腹いっぱい楽しめるライヴアルバムなのです。
このツアーの後、世界制覇の「広さ」ではなくシングル・ヒットによる「高み」を目指す戦略に転換していったVAN HALEN。本作には、そんな切り替えの過渡期だからこそのレア曲がたっぷり詰まっているのです。貴重な時期のフルショウをクリアに楽しめる伝説録音の最高峰盤。その輝きを永遠に残すプレスCDでトコトンお楽しみください。
