Major debut of VAN HALEN painted with the history of rock and guitar overnight. From the legendary first visit to Japan that only 4 months later, the shock live album is new discovery.
It is included in this work “June 24, 1978: Nagoya City Auditorium” performance. Its super realistic audience recording. We have archived this historical Japan tour with many masterpiece live albums. First of all, I will also include the meaning to organize the collection, let’s look back on the legendary tour once more.

Over all, nine performances. In addition to the historical daimyo board “TOKYO’S ON FIRE (Zodiac 142)”, all the past performances in Tokyo. This work is a Nagoya performance that will be released for the first time.
The biggest charm of this work is the Nagoya show itself that you hear for the first time, but the sound that conveys it is also great. Truly it does not correspond to “TOKYO’S ON FIRE” synonymous with miraculous recording, but it is also far from the so-called “common sense of precious sound source”. Above all, it is a furious direct feeling. There is no doubt that it is an audience recording only for the original cassette brought from its own route, but the distance is not felt at all, it is hardly on. To tell the truth, it is too frightful that bass sounds overpeaked, but vocals, choruses, and guitar that is essential are ultra vivid and extremely correct. If the picking nuance is also vivid, the slight arming crush is also vivid. The hand is visible in the eyes, it is the nearest sound that can see the fusion line that blows up fire and fire in front of you.
Even more surprising is the small amount of audience / noise that is unusual. Of course, even though the clapping and cheering and whistling between the songs are sucked in, the performance sound / singing voice like the rough rope is completely drowned out far from the outline. Coupled with its balance and freshness unique to the original master, it can be immersed in the show with a direct feeling of FM sound source burdens. Moreover, it is a tremendous name recording that such sound improves as the show advances.
A show that roars with such sounds is a new legend that you can not miss listening to even one sound. Unfortunately because of the tape change, the set lacks the beginning of “Eruption”, and the previous “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” is not recorded yet. However, everything else is a sweet rocking rock sweeping every moment, unpublished “Down In Flames” is also perfect. On the contrary, in fact, even MC is listening. After finishing the opening ‘On Fire’, he cried out as “Oh, bitchie, Come Oooooon!” And after “Runnin ‘With The Devil” “I came from Tokyo, Nagoya is the world rock’ n roll capital ‘ talk. Perhaps it has been said that the same thing in various parts of the world, but what a tequilo … …. It is David Lee Ross who rolls out Yankee anytime, but there is no enemy where it heads off with thorough abruptness. “Ice Cream Man” scat is also great. It spreads plenty of the energetic fleet momentum alone.

Too rushy and intense. After all, VAN HALEN’s first visit to Japan was a legend. It is a masterpiece that can pose such a fact once again.
I will regret that the cut change of the tape change is regrettable, but it is no use crying out without a thing. A shock of the first visit to Japan, a shock which meets “TOKYO’S ON FIRE”, a new excavation which can be tasted by another show. It is the birth of a cultural heritage class live album suitable for permanent preservation.

ロック・ギターの歴史を一夜にして塗り替えたVAN HALENのメジャー・デビュー。そのわずか４ヶ月後に実現した伝説の初来日から、衝撃のライヴアルバムが新発掘です。
本作に収められているのは「1978年６月24日：名古屋市公会堂」公演。その超リアル・オーディエンス録音です。当店では、この歴史的なジャパンツアーを幾多の名作ライヴアルバムでアーカイヴしてきました。まずは、そのコレクションを整理する意味も込め、伝説ツアーを今一度振り返ってみましょう。

以上、全９公演。歴史的な大名盤『TOKYO’S ON FIRE（Zodiac 142）』をはじめ、これまではすべて東京公演。本作は、初公開となる名古屋公演なのです。
本作最大の魅力は、初めて耳にする名古屋ショウそのものになるわけですが、それを伝えるサウンドもグレイト。さすがに奇跡録音の代名詞たる『TOKYO’S ON FIRE』には及びませんが、いわゆる“貴重音源の常識”ともかけ離れている。何よりも素晴らしいのは、猛烈なダイレクト感。独自ルートからもたらされたオリジナル・カセットだけにオーディエンス録音なのは間違いないのですが、距離が全然感じられず、やたらめったらオン。実のところ、あまりに凄まじくて低音がオーバーピーク気味になることもあるのですが、ヴォーカルやコーラス、そして肝心要のギターは超鮮明＆超端正。ピッキング・ニュアンスもビビッドなら、ちょっとしたアーミングの軋みも鮮やか。手元が目に浮かび、目の前にバチバチと火を吹き上げる導火線が見えるほどのド直近サウンドなのです。
さらに驚くのは、異常なまでのオーディエンス・ノイズの少なさ。もちろん、手拍子や曲間の喝采・口笛も吸い込まれてはいるものの、それ概要に遠く、荒縄の如き演奏音／歌声に完全にかき消されてしまう。そのバランスとオリジナル・マスターならではの瑞々しさも相まって、それこそFM音源ばりのド直結感でショウに没頭できる。しかも、ショウが進むほどにそんなサウンドが向上までしてしまう、とてつもない名録音なのです。
そんなサウンドで轟くショウは、１音たりとも聴き逃せない新たなる伝説。セットは東京公演に準じており、残念ながらテープチェンジのために「Eruption」の冒頭が欠けており、その前の「Somebody Get Me A Doctor」も未収録。しかし、それ以外はどの瞬間も凄まじいまでの苛烈なロックが渦巻いており、未発表曲「Down In Flames」もばっちり。それどころか、実のところMCまでもが聴きどころ。オープニングの「On Fire」を終えるや「Oh, ボチボチね、Come Oooooon!」と叫び、「Runnin’ With The Devil」の後には「東京から来たぜ。名古屋は世界のロックンロール・キャピタルだ」と語る。恐らくは世界各地でも同じ事を言ってきたのでしょうが、何とテキトーな……。いつでもヤンキー丸出しなデイヴィッド・リー・ロスですが、徹底的に破天荒で向かうところ敵なし。「Ice Cream Man」のスキャットも絶好調。独り無敵艦隊な勢いをたっぷりとまき散らしてくれるのです。

あまりにも苛烈で激烈。やはり、VAN HALENの初来日は伝説だった。そんな当たり前の事実を今一度突きつけられる大傑作です。
返す返すもテープチェンジのカットが残念ではありますが、無い物ねだりをしても仕方がない。初来日の衝撃、『TOKYO’S ON FIRE』に出会った衝撃を、また別のショウで味わえる新発掘の１枚。永久保存に相応しい文化遺産級ライヴアルバムの誕生です。
