VAN HALEN in 1976/1977, which was the eve of producing the historic super-famous “Van Halen”. Introducing a 3-disc set that permanently preserves the pre-debut demo, which is also acclaimed as “VAN HALEN version Decca Tapes”, with the highest quality.
This work is the “Zero th album” that existed right before “Van Halen”. This is a studio album that couples two world-famous legendary demos. Let’s introduce each one individually.
The demo spelled out with the highest peak sound is a super famous sound source that can be absolutely touched in the success story of VAN HALEN. It was produced by Jean, who fell in love with VAN HALEN who appeared in the Starwood club, and bought his own investment. The recording was “Village Recorder Studio” in Los Angeles, and the mastering was “Electric Ladyland” in New York.・ Studio ”and a completely professional environment. The quality and performance are so tight that you can’t think of it as a demo aimed at contracting with a record company, and the repertoire is also the prototype of a group of famous songs that will leave a name in history. As mentioned above, the quality of the recording is beyond the range of semi-professional demos, and because it is produced by Jean, it has a slightly KISS-like finish. Starting with Alex’s drums, the KISS-like light exhilaration is on the front, and the chorus is firmly layered. Eddie’s guitar isn’t phased so much, but double-track processing is done everywhere to make it thicker, and two rhythm guitars flow from the left and right speakers. It’s more than a so-called demo, but you can enjoy a taste that is quite different from the later works.
[DISC 2: THE WARNER BROTHERS DEMOS 1977 (26 songs)] Jean made an effort to make his debut, but decided to withdraw from VAN HALEN due to complaints from KISS members who have become busy. However, if there is a god to throw away, there is a god to pick up. Shortly afterwards, Van Morrison and Ted Templeman, known as the producer of THE DOOBIE BROTHERS, heard their rumors and contacted them. Ted will produce a new demo for the deal with Warner Bros., which will later build a golden age. It is such “THE WARNER BROTHERS DEMOS” that is contained in the disc 2-3 of this work. This is also a large standard that has produced a large number of existing groups, but this work is permanently preserved by the highest peak “FIRESTARTER” master. However, it is the longest board with the addition of “Happy Trails” which was not recorded in the past.If you have experienced “FIRESTARTER”, you probably know the superb sound quality, but this is also the official grade. …… and it looks like this. There is no difference in the take of the same song that is common in demos, and it is powerful that all 26 takes are different. What’s more, the contents are a collection of original stories from “Van Halen” to “A DIFFERENT KIND OF TRUTH” over the entire career of the Dave era (there is no song of “Martial Law”, but still “Mean Street” Riffs will appear). After all, there are 7 unreleased songs that have not been officially recorded, which is almost the same as one album.
In addition to the huge number of songs, each song is special. Since there is no drill, I will summarize the points above, but is it necessary to mention “Young And Wild” and “Gonna Take A Lot Of Drugs” at the bottom? Neither is their original, and “Young And Wild” is a song by Kim Fowley & Stephen T. Penn, who is also known for discovering THE RUNAWAYS. It was unpublished at the time, but in 1978, it was recorded by Cherie Currie and recorded in “BEAUTY’S ONLY SKIN DEEP”. And “Gonna Take A Lot Of Drugs” is a song, a joke recording. It’s just a track where Nicolette Larson’s “Lotta Love” is played in the studio, and Dave and Michael playfully sing along with it. Of course I’m not playing and I can hear Nicorette’s voice.
The above is a collection of 27 songs and 36 tracks. There are other demos at home and unreleased songs only for live performances, but the two demos of this work are legendary studio albums that you can enjoy with a professional degree of perfection. It is an entertainment masterpiece that is different in dimension from the “research materials and reference materials” that are often found in early demonstrations.
