VAN HALEN in 1978 that shook the whole world with “Van Halen”. The upgrade master of the legendary recording that tells the scene is a new excavation. Introducing a permanent storage press CD!
The legendary recording was engraved with “August 6, 1978 Oklahoma City Performance”. A transcendental audience recording when he appeared at the legendary outdoor festival “OKLAHOMA JAM” … but maybe. I’m sorry I suddenly became weak, but in fact, this recording was once really believed to be a sound board and was distributed. You may remember something like “BOTTOMS UP! (Part of)” from the prestigious Bondage label. This work is such an existing remaster. .. .. .. Well, there isn’t. It is an upgrade board that has been digitized from the recently discovered 1st Gene Cassette.
For those who did not know the existing issue, it became a question of “?”, So I repartitioned it. First of all, let’s look back on the tour schedule immediately after debut and confirm the position of the show.

This was VAN HALEN in 1978, which had a shocking impact on the world. The European Tour and the first visit to Japan are also realized while focusing on three US tours. The Oklahoma City performance of this work is just after the legendary first visit to Japan. It was a concert equivalent to 21 performances of “North America # 2”.
This work that recorded such a show is a transcendental level straight ball sound that makes you want to eat down like “It’s like a sound board!” “This is not a sound board !?” “That said, is it really a sound board?” It’s true that there are no ceilings or walls, so you can see that there is no reverberation component, but the ultra-thick core and extremely vivid details that cannot be explained by itself are too amazing. In addition, a stereo feeling that pans intensely. What makes the sound board feel even more is the unusually distant audience noise. While the tingling sensation that the on-site PA might have emitted is zero distance, the audience’s enthusiasm and cheers are at a level that is finally noticed by listening with headphones. This is just a guess, but if this recording is a spatial recording, it probably stuck to either the left or right (Eddie’s side?) PA. I can only think so. That is a super-class direct feeling like modern IEMs recording.
Moreover, this work is an upgraded version of such a legendary recording. As mentioned above, the freshness of the 1st cassette is tremendous, the originally thick core sounds more realistic, and the three-dimensional effect and fine parts are also improved. At this moment, collectors from all over the world are excited, but this work accurately adjusts the pitch that was too fast for the original sound of the net, and adjusts the slightly donshari balance to a bold high-rise sound. It realizes the highest peak sound that pursues the possibility of legendary recording.
It is the Tokuno stage that is drawn with such a sound because it is just after the debut. “OKLAHOMA JAM” in 1978 was a large-scale festival in which a total of 11 groups including TEN YEARS AFTER, BLACK OAK, MONTROSE, U.K., etc. participated, and VAN HALEN immediately after their debut appeared in 2nd place. That’s why the concentration and explosive power to compete in a short time is amazing. その伝説録音に刻まれていたのは「1978年８月６日オクラホマ・シティ公演」。伝説的な野外フェス“OKLAHOMA JAM”に出演した際の超絶級オーディエンス録音……でず、たぶん。急に気弱になって申し訳ありませんが、実はこの録音、かつては本当にサウンドボードと信じられて流通していたもの。名門Bondageレーベルの『BOTTOMS UP!（の一部）』など、ご記憶の方もいらっしゃるのではないでしょうか。本作は、そんな既発のリマスター。。。。では、ありません。最近になって新発掘された1stジェネ・カセットからデジタル化されたアップグレード盤なのです。

これが世界にド級の衝撃を振りまいていた1978年のVAN HALEN。３度の全米ツアーを軸としながら欧州ツアーや初来日も実現。本作のオクラホマ・シティ公演は伝説の初来日の直後。「北米#2」の21公演にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、「まるでサウンドボード！」「これがサウンドボードじゃないの!?」「そうは言っても本当はサウンドボードなんでしょ？」と食い下がりたくなる超絶レベルのド直球サウンド。確かに天井や壁もない野外ですから反響成分ゼロなのは分かりますが、それだけでは説明の付かない超極太な芯と極度にビビッドなディテールが凄すぎる。さらに加えて、強烈にパンするステレオ感。さらにサウンドボード感を増しているのが、異様に遠いオーディエンス・ノイズ。現場ＰＡが発しているであろうチリチリ感までゼロ距離なのに対し、観客の熱狂や喝采はヘッドフォンで耳を澄ましてようやく気づくレベル。これはあくまで推測ですが、この記録が空間録音なのだとしたら、恐らく左右どちらか（エディ側？）のＰＡにへばりついて録音したのではないでしょうか。そうとしか考えられない。それこそ現代IEMs録音のような超ド級ダイレクト感なのです。
しかも、本作はそんな伝説録音のアップグレード盤。前述のように1stカセットの鮮度は絶大で、もともと極太な芯がさらにリアルに鳴り、立体感や微細部もディテール・アップしている。今この瞬間も世界中のコレクターを湧かせていますが、本作はネットの原音では速すぎたピッチも正確に整え、ややドンシャリ気味のバランスも骨太なハイ上がりサウンドに調整。伝説録音の可能性を追究した最高峰サウンドを実現しているのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、デビュー直後だからこその特濃ステージ。1978年の“OKLAHOMA JAM”はTEN YEARS AFTERやBLACK OAK、MONTROSE、U.K.等、総勢11組が参加した大規模フェスで、デビュー直後のVAN HALENは２番手で出演。それだけに短い持ち時間に勝負をかける集中力と爆発力が凄い。1978年というとサウンドボード三部作『DEFINITIVE MANCHESTER 1978（Zodiac 298）』『DEFINITIVE IPSWICH 1978（Zodiac 299）』『DEFINITIVE HAMMERSMITH 1978（Zodiac 296）』も持ち時間は同程度ながらセットが微妙に異なる。ここで固定曲と日替わり曲に分けて整理してみましょう。
