ぶっといアメリカンHRがたっぷり詰まったビッグ・タイトルが登場です！　先週“VAN HALEN 2015 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR”のファーストレッグ21公演が終了し、堰を切ったように高音質のハイパー録音が次々と到着しはじめました。その第１段としてプレス化した「MANSFIELD 2015」は、日本人テーパーの繊細さと本場の雰囲気が融合した見事な現地録音でしたが、やはり本場アメリカのテーパーも負けてはいなかった。各地で地元会場のスウィートスポットを知り尽くし、パワフルで豪快な“ビッグＶ”の旨味をたっぷりと吸い込ませた客席マスターが次から次へと、“ほとんど全公演!?”という勢いで届けてくれたのです。もちろん、のべつ幕なしにリリースすることもできませんので、その中から厳選に厳選。サウンド・収録時間・パフォーマンスの三拍子が揃ったマスターを３本まで絞り込みました。それを６枚組に仕上げたのが本作なのです！
この３本、厳選を重ねただけに、いずれ劣らぬスーパーライヴ盤ばかり。順次、プレス２枚組×３タイトルでリリースする計画だったのですが………ちょっと待った。１本聴けば次も聴きたくなる傑作録音ばかりとは言え、基本的には同じツアー、同じ構成のショウ。それが３回も続いたら、“最後の１本まで聴いていただけないのではないか？”との迷いもあったのです。いかに素晴らしいライヴ、素晴らしい録音であっても、耳に届かなくては意味がない。そこで、今回は「お求めやすさ」を徹底的に追究した６枚組に仕上げ、一気にご体験いただこうという運びになったわけです。先日リリースの「MANSFIELD 2015」は唯一１本だけの“日本人テーパー”というスペシャルでしたが、今回はアメリカ人による、アメリカ人らしいビッグ・スケールのファットなライヴ・セットなのです！
本作１本目は「2015年７月16日マウンテン・ビュー公演」。再生すると、いきなりのスーパーサウンドで開演を告げるエディ・ヴァン・ヘイレンの速弾きが炸裂！　息子ウルフギャングのベースもぶっとく、デイヴ・リー・ロスのトーキング・ヴォーカルもラインのダイレクト感たっぷり。それら各音が綺麗に録られていながら、一気呵成に迫ってくるダイナミズムが、実にアメリカ人録音らしいところ。本場の会場、本場のPA、そして本場のテーパー。これぞ、まさにアメリカンHRの真髄です！　「Dance The Night Away」中盤から「Stay Frosty」にかけ、若干サウンドのニュアンスが変わるので統一感としては、後の２公演に譲りますが、６枚組大作の幕開けを飾る堂々のオープニングです。
２本目は６日後の「2015年７月24日ティンレイ・パーク公演」。こちらも高音質ながら安定感までバツグン。開演前の会場ムードたっぷりな冒頭からラストまで、一気に堪能できる１本です。それにしても、今年のVAN HALENは本当に絶好調。エディもデイヴも溌剌としており、とてもじゃはありませんが60歳のロックとは思えない。さらに親父仕込みのウルフギャングのベースも見事で、テクニカルに弾き倒しながら叔父アレックスとのグルーヴもピッタリ。正直なところ、彼さえいればビリー・シーンでさえもいらない。８年前に「どんなドラ息子が入ってくるんだ!?」と心配になったのがウソのようです。
そして目玉中の目玉が３本目。「2015年７月30日バンガー公演」をパックしたオーディエンス・アルバムです。なにしろ、ほとんど全公演の中から厳選に厳選を重ねただけあって、これまた前２本に勝るとも劣らない高音質盤。しかし、この３本目はちょっと雰囲気が違う。９列目ウルフギャング側の録音のせいか、歓声が大胆！　どの公演も大観衆が歌い盛り上がるスケール感は同じですが、バンガー公演は、その声がより近く、生々しいのです。ヘッドフォンで聴いていると、まるで現場の匂いが鼻先に漂ってくるかのような臨場感！　３本の中でも、アメリカ人らしいダイナミックな空気感ではナンバー１の録音でしょう!!

マウンテン・ビュー公演の目の覚めるようなダイレクト感に引っぱたかれ、統一感あふれるティンレイ・パーク公演で一気にショウを聴き通す。ショウの真髄を味わい抜いた上で聴くからこそ、バンガー公演のリアリズムが最高に楽しい！　盛り上がりに盛り上がり抜くディスク６の「Jump」。見たことも会ったこともない観客と肩を組みたくなるような一体感に包まれ、本作は幕を閉じます。３公演、全長６時間の超娯楽大作。本作は、あなたが「もういい！」と音を上げるまで、徹底的にお付き合いいたします。量も質も濃度もビッグ。それがまた、VAN HALENに似合うんですよ！
