The 1979 “NO NUKES” concert, which was a pioneering anti-nuclear event. The pattern was released in the form of a movie and a live album, but the movie has not yet been released in formats such as DVD and Blu-ray level.
It was a very luxurious event where West Coast artists gathered at the time after the Three Mile Island accident that shook the world at that time, and more than that, it was a classic video that captured the stage of Bruce Springsteen. It is strange that the release in the modern format has not been realized yet because it was popular as one.
However, it is undeniable that the content that doubles as an anti-nuclear appeal is now obsolete, not just a concert documentary, and that may have made the rights relationship confusing. Things that are not hard to imagine.
In addition, only the scene of Springsteen, which was the biggest feature of this movie, was made into a DVD earlier in his music video collection, and there is even a feeling that it has become a completely unfavorable existence.

The version of the movie “NO NUKES” that was broadcast in Japan in the early Heisei period is released this time in order to throw a stone in such a situation. This movie was also officially released in the era of VHS and laser discs, and it is presumed that it was based on the laser released in 1990 when broadcasting. Thanks to that, the image quality is very good, and the quality is at a level that can be enjoyed with the current eyes.
Of course, subtitles are also included, but this is important in this movie. While many concert scenes are included, artists appearing everywhere discussing the purpose of the concert and the management of the event. Subtitles are essential here. There are many edits that divide the performance scene, and it is a fact that it makes us feel the times when we see it now. This may also be the reason why the current software release is not realized.

Frequently appearing throughout the film are Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, and John Hall of Orleans, among whom Hall is the most enthusiastic and well-partitioned, and he’s a politician after these activities. I am convinced that it will be.
Furthermore, it is captured that James Taylor was also enthusiastically participating, but surprisingly, there is also the highlight that Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler came to the dressing room on the day of the event.
That’s why Springsteen’s participation and presence is overwhelming, and instead of having no remarks about events and movements like other artists, the pre-release new song “The River” was premiered live and recorded in the movie. He showed a supportive attitude toward the event, such as permission (the movie was released before the release of the song), but unlike other artists, comments are not inserted during the performance. I think it was the result that highlighted the awesomeness of his performance.
Overall, it is a unique image even in rock live films made by the early 1980s, and in a good way, the bias of the performers who are closer to the West Coast (laughs) and the claim to anti-nuclear power. .. In the scenes of Springsteen and The Doobie Brothers, which seemed to contradict the recording of only the performance scenes, the editing that changed the atmosphere of the movie was really interesting.
Based on the circumstances mentioned so far, I don’t think the day will come when it will be released on Blu-ray etc. The nostalgic “NO NUKES”, which used to be one of the classic rock movies, is now a mountain of degrading image quality on YouTube. A rare version that can be seen with the best image quality and subtitles to eliminate such mania’s dissatisfaction!

時代を先駆けた反原子力イベントと言えた1979年の「NO NUKES」コンサート。その模様は映画とライブアルバムという形でリリースされましたが、こと映画に関しては未だにDVDやブルーレイ・レベルといったフォーマットでのリリースが実現せずじまい。
当時世界を震撼させたスリーマイル島事故に端を発して当時のウエストコースト系アーティストが集結したイベントとしても非常に豪華なものであり、それ以上にブルース・スプリングスティーンのステージを捉えた古典映像の一つとしても親しまれていただけに、未だに現代のフォーマットでのリリースが実現しないというのが不思議。
とはいえ単なるコンサート・ドキュメンタリーではなく、反原子力のアピールを兼ねた内容が今となっては古びてしまった感が否めず、またそれ故に権利関係などがややこしくなってしまったであろうことも想像に難くないもの。
おまけに本映画における最大の目玉であったスプリングスティーンの場面だけが彼のミュージック・ビデオ集の中で一足先にDVD化されるなど、すっかり不遇の存在となってしまった感すらある。

そんな状況に一石を投じるべく今回リリースされるのが映画「NO NUKES」を平成初期に日本で放送されたバージョン。本映画もVHSやレーザーディスクの時代にはしっかりオフィシャルでリリースされており、放送に際しては1990年にリリースされていたレーザーを元にしたのだと推測されます。おかげで画質は非常に良好であり、現在の目でも文句なしに楽しめるレベルのクオリティ。
当然字幕も付いているのですが、本映画ではコレが重要。コンサートの場面が多く含まれている反面、随所でコンサートの趣旨やイベントの運営について話し合うアーティストの様子が登場します。ここは字幕が必須というもの。それが演奏シーンを分断してしまう編集も少なくなく、今になって見ると時代を感じさせるのも事実。これがまた現在のソフトでのリリースが実現しない原因かもしれません。

映画を通して頻繁に登場するのはジャクソン・ブラウン、グレアム・ナッシュ、そしてオーリアンズのジョン・ホールで、中でもホールが最も熱心かつ仕切り上手なところを見せており、なるほどこうした活動が高じて後に彼が政治家になるのも納得。
さらにジェイムス・テイラーも熱心に参加していた様子が捉えられていますが、意外なところではイベント当日の楽屋にエアロスミスのスティーブン・タイラーが遊びに来ていたという見どころもあります。
それだけにスプリングスティーンの参加と存在感は圧倒的で、他のアーティストのようなイベントや運動に対する発言の場面がまったくない代わりに、リリース前の新曲「The River」のライブ初披露と映画への収録を許可（おまけに同曲のリリース前に映画が公開）するなど、彼なりにイベントへの協力的な姿勢を見せた形となりましたが、他のアーティストと違ってコメントが演奏中に挿入されない分、彼のパフォーマンスの凄まじさを際立たせる結果となったのではないでしょうか。
全体的には1980年代初頭までに作られたロックのライブフィルムの中においても異色中の異色と言える映像であり、いい意味でウエストコースト寄りな出演者の偏り（笑）と反原子力への主張。それと相反するかのようにパフォーマンス・シーンのみの収録にとどまったスプリングスティーンとドゥービー・ブラザーズの場面では映画の雰囲気がガラリと変わってしまう編集が実に面白い。
ここまで挙げてきた事情を踏まえるに、これからもブルーレイなどでリリースされる日が訪れるとは思えません。昔は定番ロックムービーの一つあった懐かしの「NO NUKES」も今やYouTube上の画質劣化版が関の山となってしまいました。そんなマニアの不満を解消すべく最良の画質かつ字幕付きで見られるレア・バージョン！
