18 years after the legendary first visit to Japan, URIAH HEEP finally came back to Japan in 1991. Introducing a masterpiece original recording that conveys the scene.
This work was recorded at the “September 17, 1991: Nagoya Club Quattro” performance. It is the excellent audience recording. Their first visit to Japan was in 1973, but it changed in 18 years. In 1991, when I came back to Japan, it was at the “DIFFERENT WORLD TOUR” with the Bernie Show at the front. First of all, let’s look back on the miracle return schedule and confirm the position of the show.
・ September 17: Nagoya Club Quattro ← ★ This work ★
・ September 18: Osaka Club Quattro
・ September 19: Club Citta Kawasaki
・ September 20: Club Citta Kawasaki
・ September 21: Sapporo Penny Lane 24
Above, all 5 performances. The performance in Nagoya of this work was the first concert in Japan in 18 years (By the way, DEEP PURPLE also came to Japan three months ago. It was during the Joe Lynn Turner era).
This work, which was recorded on the first night of the memorial revisit, is a truly exquisite audience recording. I can’t say “zero distance” because the snare and guitar tones have a slight sense of space, but it’s just “not zero.” You can hardly feel the distance in the powerful core and the fine details, and the feeling that “HEEP is in front of you” is amazing. Moreover, although it is so powerful, it does not chatter even at peaks, and the sense of stability is outstanding. It’s a live performance almost 30 years ago, but it’s a vivid sound like the latest recording in 2020.
It is a full show that seems to regain the time of 18 years, drawn with such a timeless sound. Speaking of live performances in the early days of Bernie’s participation, the official edition “LIVE IN MOSCOW” is famous, so let’s organize the set while comparing.
● Byron Era Classics (6 songs)
・ First: Gypsy
・ Look at Yourself: July Morning / Look At Yourself
・ Demons and Wizards: The Wizard / Eay Livin’
・ Sweet Freedom: Stealin’
● 80’s Goldie era (2 songs)
・ The return of the demon world That’s The Way That It Is
・ Head First: The Other Side Of Midnight (★)
● After joining the Bernie Show (7 songs)
・ Raging Silence: Bad Bad Man (★) / Mr. Majestic
・ Different World: Blood On Stone (★) / Which Way Will The Wind Blow (★) / One On One (★) / Different World (★) First Touch (★)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard in “LIVE IN MOSCOW”.
… And it looks like this. The Pete Goldie era sung by Bernie is also delicious, but more than that is the repertoire of the latest work “DIFFERENT WORLD” at that time. There is a section hidden behind the next work “SEA OF LIGHT”, but all five songs, including the title song of the hidden masterpiece, are played only on this tour. Even if you just listen to it, you can enjoy a number of precious rare numbers with the best sound and at the performance in Japan.
URIAH HEEP where the heroic voice welcomed the powerful Bernie Shaw and made a miracle return to Japan. Last year, I was surprised by the youthful and powerful show that I couldn’t think of as a big veteran of the dawn of HR, but this work can be said to be the first visit to Japan of “Burney New Chapter HEEP” at the same time as returning to Japan. .. This work is an original recording that allows you to experience the first day of reunion with Japan. I really want to permanently preserve and press the clear sound, the fresh enthusiasm, and the preciousness of rare songs. Don’t miss out on such a masterpiece!
