U2 in 1989, when the entire earth was obtained with successive hits of “THE JOSHUA TREE” and “RATTLE AND HUM”. The best original recording that recorded the visit to Japan is now available.
Included in this work is “November 25, 1989: Tokyo Dome Performance”. It is the masterpiece audience recording. Only a monumental Japan tour is archived with numerous masterpieces in our shop. First, let’s organize the collection from the schedule at that time.

Above, all 6 performances, 3 performances in Kanto + 3 performances in Osaka. The highlight was the Tokyo Dome performance, which just opened in the previous year, and U2 stood on the “Big Egg” stage as the 8th set of artists. This work is an audience recording that recorded the first day.
This work, which recorded such a show, is a beautiful recording away from the dome. It is a recording that was once introduced as “LOVE COMES TO DOME”, but it is an upgraded version. “LOVE COMES TO DOME” was also an original master, but it was a 1st generation cassette master. On the other hand, this work is the ultimate version that was made into a CD from the original DAT master handed over from the recording person.
Actually, the upgrade is amazing. At the time of “LOVE COMES TO DOME”, I didn’t think it was a tough Tokyo Dome, but the Omoto DAT was even more vivid. The air is more transparent and details are clearly improved. This is the first time that I found out that the bass edge was particularly great and was lost during dubbing on the conventional board. Of course, it doesn’t mean the sense of distance that is mistaken for a sound board, but it sounds like the distance sense itself is tens of meters closer. “LOVE COMES TO DOME” was a dimension that was “great for the early Tokyo Dome”, but this work is a sound that makes you wonder if “this is really a dome recording !?”.
The U2 that was enjoying the spring of our world is depicted in the upgrade sound. Speaking of “LOVETOWN TOUR”, Dublin performance has been officially announced as “LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT”, so let’s organize the set while comparing.

As of 2019, 30 years after this work, the first visit to Japan in 13 years is coming soon. As the Tiananmen incident was told in this work, there may be an ale to democratize Hong Kong this time. It is an original DAT master that jumps over 30 years of time and brings U2 of the greatest heyday. そんな本作に収められているのは「1989年11月25日：東京ドーム公演」。その傑作オーディエンス録音です。記念碑的なジャパン・ツアーだけに当店でも数々の傑作でアーカイヴ。まずは、当時のスケジュールからそのコレクションを整理してみましょう。

以上、関東３公演＋大阪３公演の全６公演。中でもハイライトだったのは、前年に開場したばかりの東京ドーム公演で、U2は外タレとしては８組目のアーティストとして“ビッグエッグ”のステージに立ちました。本作は、その初日を記録したオーディエンス録音です。
そんなショウを記録した本作は、ドーム離れした美録音。かつて『LOVE COMES TO DOME』としてご紹介したこともある録音なのですが、そのアップグレード盤なのです。『LOVE COMES TO DOME』もオリジナル・マスターではありましたが、それは1stジェネのカセット・マスター。それに対し、本作は録音者本人から譲られた大元DATマスターからCD化した究極バージョンなのです。
実際、そのアップグレードぶりは目を見張る。『LOVE COMES TO DOME』の時点で音響の厳しい東京ドームとは思えなかったのですが、大元DATはさらに鮮やかだった。空気感が一層透き通り、細部までクッキリとディテール・アップ。特に低音のエッジが素晴らしく、従来盤ではダビングの際に失われていた事が今回初めて分かったのです。もちろん、サウンドボードと間違える距離感ゼロというわけではありませんが、距離感そのものまで数十メートル近づいたように聞こえる。『LOVE COMES TO DOME』は「初期の東京ドームにしては素晴らしい」という次元だったのに対し、本作は「これが本当にドーム録音!?」と耳を疑うくらいのサウンドなのです。
そのアップグレード・サウンドで描かれるのは、我が世の春を謳歌していたU2。“LOVETOWN TOUR”と言えば、ダブリン公演が『LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT』として公式化されたこともありますので、比較しながらセットを整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。『LIVE FROM THE POINT DEPOT』にはない３曲も美味しいところですが、それ以上に全編を貫く日本ならではのムードが素晴らしい。何しろ、オープニングの「Where The Streets Have No Name」からしてボノが「押忍、東京！」と登場。「I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking Forの冒頭でも「皆さん、こんばんは」と日本語MCを挟む。曲間MCと言えば、ボノのコメントが濃厚な“1989年の薫り”を発散している。アメリカ国歌に導かれた「Bullet The Blue Sky」では「今晩ここで、僕達は（東西冷戦の）鉄のカーテンを引き裂くパワーを感じる。今晩、僕達は中国の変革を遂行させるためのパワーを感じる！」と語り、「Love Rescue Me」の冒頭では「ロックンロールですべてを変えていこう。パワーを持とう」「共産圏の東ベルリン、チェコスロヴァキア、鉄のカーテンの後ろで暮らす人々のために歌う。そしてこの曲を中国の人たち、北京で体制と戦った勇敢な人たちに捧げる」と力強いメッセージを送る。「北京で戦った人たち」とは、ショウの半年前に起きた天安門事件のことです。
さらに特別なのが「People Get Ready」。曲の途中でボノが「誰か僕のギターを弾きたい人いるかい」と（英語で）言いだし、今度は日本語で「俺のギター、弾いてくれ」と２回シャウトする。事前に選ばれていたのか、観客がステージに現れて弾くのですが、この人が殊の外ギターが巧い。ボノも「この男性のギターを聴こうじゃないか」と興奮気味に叫び、ドーム中が「Oh, yeah!!」と盛大に盛り上がるのです。その熱気を受けてさらに加熱するハイライトがB.B.キングとの共演。まずはB.B.キングのバックメンバーがステージに現れてブラス入りのゴージャスな「Angel Of Harlem」を披露し、その後に御大B.B.キングが登場。「When Love Comes To Town」と「Love Rescue Me」で共演するのです。

本作から30年が経った2019年現在、13年ぶりの来日公演も間近に迫っています。本作で天安門事件が語られたように、今回は香港民主化デモへのエールがあるかも知れません。そんな30年の時間を飛び越え、一大全盛期のU2を連れてきてくれるオリジナルDATマスターです。歴史的な『THE JOSHUA TREE』完全再現が差し迫った“今”に、これ以上なく相応しい大傑作ライヴアルバム。どうぞ、永久保存プレス２CDでじっくりとお楽しみください。

The main press 2CD is a live album that permanently preserves the monumental first Tokyo Dome performance. This is the ultimate CD from the original DAT master. However, the arrival in Japan in 1989 was only at the height of popularity, and there are other masterpiece recordings. Therefore, a bonus will be included with the original master that can be experienced from different seats only for the first week of release.
That’s why this work includes “November 25, 2019: Tokyo Dome Performance”. Although it is the same show as the main press 2CD, it is a completely different audience recording. It ’s not a bonus sound just for bonus attachments. Actually, this is also a masterpiece of recording this work. As mentioned in the explanation of this volume, the Tokyo Dome has been performed for two consecutive days, and the second day is also introduced as a masterpiece press CD “LOVE RESCUE ME (Wardour-085)”. This work is such a press masterpiece and “first day edition by the same recording artist”.
Actually, this work is also a name recording that is separated from the dome. Compared with the main press 2CD, the ringing is thicker, but it is because the main part has a clear outline. The performance sound of this work is powerful enough to reach the atmosphere, vocals can be heard up to one word of the lyrics, and the base that tends to be spoiled in dome recording is firmly separated. You can enjoy both the sharp attack sound and the vibe that creates the groove.
If it is just that, it seems to be “I want a main press CD”, but this work also has a point that surpasses the main press 2CD. That is a spectacle. The sea of ​​great cheers spreading far and far is incredibly vast, and the swells react in response to every stroke of Bono. If you make sure that there is no misunderstanding, this work is covered in a loud cheer and it is not a recording that makes it difficult to hear the performance (at all!). The bold performance sound and the powerful Bono singing voice dominate everything. However, the enthusiasm of the crowd that strikes such a stage sound from below can be clearly felt. If Bono says in the “Where The Streets Have No Name”, it ’s the first time that Bono yelled “Oshino Shin, Tokyo!” …
Furthermore, the performance itself is spectacular. Speaking of U2, it is characterized by the creation of a unique and refreshing sound, but it fills the space of the dome and approaches it more enormously. You can feel the effect in the whole story, for example “With Or Without You”. As the synth spins a beautiful world, the clear bass advances the song, and Bono’s daring vocals are involved. The breadth of the world raises the excitement of the melody and envelops the whole body. And, the cheering cheered by the melody rushes to the stage as a wave … Audience recording may be considered a substitute for listening to live without a sound board, but it is not. The finest audience recording conveys the 3D sensation and scale of the site that can never be tasted with an official or sound board, and even the music itself is scaled up. This work is a sample. It is a sound proof that U2 music itself proves to be good for audience recording.

November, 1989, when I saw U2 in the world. 30 years have passed since then, and it is finally time to experience the complete reproduction of “THE JOSHUA TREE”. The main press 2CD alone is a masterpiece of music, but I want to bite deeper and happily just because it is “now” that will never happen again. This work is a bonus live album for that. 本編プレス２CDは、記念碑的な初・東京ドーム公演を永久保存するライヴアルバム。大元のオリジナルDATマスターからCD化した究極盤です。しかし、1989年の来日は人気絶頂だけあって、傑作録音は他にも存在する。そこで、リリース初週限定で別の座席からも体験できるオリジナル・マスターを特別にボーナス付属致します。
と言うわけで、本作に収められているのは「2019年11月25日：東京ドーム公演」。本編プレス２CDと同じショウではありますが、完全に別のオーディエンス録音です。ボーナス付属だけにオマケ程度のサウンド……ではありません。実は、本作を記録したのも名手。本編の解説でも触れましたが、東京ドームでは２日連続公演となっており、２日目は傑作プレスCD『LOVE RESCUE ME（Wardour-085）』としてもご紹介している。本作は、そんなプレス傑作と「同じ録音家による初日編」なのです。
実際、本作もまたドーム離れした名録音。本編プレス２CDに比べると鳴りが厚めではありますが、それは本編がえらく輪郭がクッキリとしているからこそ。本作の演奏音も空気感を割って届く力強さがあり、ヴォーカルは歌詞の１語１語までキチンと聴き取れ、ドーム録音ではスポイルされがちなベースもしっかりとセパレート。鋭いアタック音もグルーヴを生み出すヴァイヴもタップリと楽しめるのです。
それだけなら「本編プレスCDがあればいいや」となりそうですが、本作は本編プレス２CDを凌駕するポイントもある。それはスペクタクル。遠く遠くに広がる大歓声の海がめちゃくちゃ広大で、そのうねりがボノの一挙手一投足に反応して蠢きまくる。誤解のないように念押ししますと、本作は大歓声にまみれて演奏が聴きづらい録音では（まったく！）ありません。骨太な演奏音と力強いボノの歌声がすべてを制圧している。しかし、そんなステージ音を下から炙るような群衆の熱狂もはっきりと感じ取れるのです。「Where The Streets Have No Name」でボノが「押忍、東京！」と叫ぶ瞬間の沸騰ぶりと言ったら……。
さらに、演奏自体もスペクタクル。U2と言えば独特な爽やかで広大な音づくりが特徴ですが、それがドームの空間を満たして一層巨大に迫る。全編で効果を感じられますが、例えば「With Or Without You」。シンセが美しい世界を紡ぐ中でえらくクッキリとしたベースが曲を進め、ボノの切々としたヴォーカルが絡んでいく。その世界の広さがメロディの高揚感をグイグイと引き上げ、全身を包み込んでくるのです。そして、そのメロディに胸を熱くした大歓声が波となってステージへと押し寄せていく……。オーディエンス録音はサウンドボードがないライヴを聴くための代用品と考えられてしまうこともありますが、そうではない。極上のオーディエンス録音はオフィシャルやサウンドボードでは決して味わえない現場の３次元感覚やスケール感を伝え、音楽そのものさえスケールアップさせてしまう。本作はその見本。U2の音楽自体がオーディエンス録音に似合うと証明する音の証拠品なのです。

世界を手中に収めたU2を目の当たりにした1989年の11月。あれから30年、遂に『THE JOSHUA TREE』完全再現を実体験する時が来ました。本編プレス２CDだけでも大傑作の音楽作品ではありますが、二度とはないであろう“今”だからこそ、より深く、より芳醇に噛みしめたい。本作は、そのためのボーナス・ライヴアルバムです。どうぞ、２つのオリジナル・マスターで思う存分たっぷりとご堪能ください。
