The early U2 soundboard collection, which has been very well received every month. Among them, the highest peak of the precious “BOY Tour” is now available on a permanent preservation press CD.
“June 8, 1981 Sittard-Gelen” is engraved in this work. This is a stereo soundboard recording when I performed at the traditional Dutch music festival “PINKPOP FESTIVAL”. As anyone who has noticed this article knows, we are archiving an early U2 soundboard album with the highest peak update master under the supervision of an overseas U2 researcher. Even in that collection, the “BOY Tour” is a very valuable early stage. First, let’s unravel the steps and organize the collections we have introduced so far.

This is the history from 1980 to the production of “OCTOBER”. The above “UK” includes some Irish performances for convenience. U2 entered the British mainland from Ireland in 1979, and first traveled to continental Europe in 1980 when “BOY” was released. The appearance of “PINKPOP FESTIVAL” in this work was a concert in the middle of the day of “Europe # 3” which is the final version of such “BOY Tour”.
This work recorded at such a show is just the best sound board. Speaking of “PINKPOP FESTIVAL”, the combination of “television broadcasting for several songs / long radio broadcasting” is a standard, and U2 in 1981 was no exception. Of course, the basis of this work is the long FM broadcast, which is the highest peak master derived by the researcher. In fact, its quality deserves to be called “completely official”. The press masterpiece “DEN HAAG 1981 (Wardour-520)” that I introduced the other day was also an official class, but its individuality was a “recorded sound” that was directly connected. On the other hand, this work has a well-organized mix and is neat. It is an even more “official work” elegant sound board.
The sound of the product is a full show that exudes the joy and self-confidence of the successful first overseas tour. Speaking of “BOY Tour”, the rival is the press masterpiece “DEN HAAG 1981”, so let’s organize the set while comparing.

毎月、大好評を賜っている初期U2のサウンドボード・コレクション。その中でも貴重な“BOY Tour”の最高峰盤が永久保存プレスCDで登場です。
そんな本作に刻まれているのは「1981年６月８日シッタートヘレーン」。オランダ伝統の音楽祭“PINKPOP FESTIVAL”に出演した際のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。本稿に目を留められた方ならご存知と思いますが、当店では海外のU2研究家の監修を受けて初期U2のサウンドボード・アルバムを最高峰更新マスターでアーカイヴ中。そのコレクションでも“BOY Tour”は非常に貴重な極初期に相当します。まずはその歩みを紐解き、これまでご紹介してきたコレクションを整理してみましょう。

これが1980年から『OCTOBER』制作までの歩み。上記の「英国」には、便宜上一部アイルランド公演も含んでいます。U2がアイルランドから英国本土へ進出したのは1979年で、初めて大陸ヨーロッパへ渡ったのが『BOY』がリリースされた1980年。本作の“PINKPOP FESTIVAL”出演は、そんな“BOY Tour”の最終盤となる「欧州#3」の中日にあたるコンサートでした。
そんなショウで記録された本作は、まさに極上の銘品サウンドボード。“PINKPOP FESTIVAL”と言えば「数曲分のテレビ放送／長長尺のラジオ放送」という組合せが定型ですが、1981年のU2もその例に漏れななかった。もちろん、本作のベースになっているのは長尺のFM放送の方であり、研究家が導き出した最高峰マスターなのです。実際、そのクオリティは「完全オフィシャル級」と呼ぶに相応しい。先日ご紹介したプレス名盤『DEN HAAG 1981（Wardour-520）』もオフィシャル級ではありましたが、その個性はいかにも卓直結な「録って出しサウンド」でした。それに対し、本作はミックスも整っていて端正。より一層「オフィシャル作品」的な気品のサウンドボードなのです。
その品作サウンドで描かれるのは、初の海外ツアーを成功させた歓喜と自信が滲み出すフルショウ。“BOY Tour”と言えば、ライバルはどうしたってプレス名盤『DEN HAAG 1981』となりますので、比較しつつセットを整理してみましょう。

The main press CD is the pinnacle of soundboard album that acts as an “official substitute”. It is an absolute board that should be collected as a live version of “BOY”. As a bonus, we have prepared an extremely early sound board in which U2 “before major debut” is poured into the brain, going back to the early stages.
It is “February 26, 1980 Dublin performance” that is sealed in such a work. That FM soundboard recording. This day is the 10th performance of “UK # 1” according to the schedule of the main story, and the day of the release of the 1st single “Another Day” from CBS Ireland. In other words, it was an extremely early stage, about three months before signing the major label “Island Records”.
This show will be broadcast on the Irish radio station “RTE Radio 2”. The FM sound board was loved by core collectors, and “Cartoon World” was adopted for the remastered version of “BOY”. This work is the complete version of such a sound board. Of course, it is not only a full show recording, but also the highest peak in terms of sound. It is the best master carefully selected by the same overseas U2 researchers as the main press CD. As expected, it is not as good as the official-grade main press CD, and although it is a sound board that seems to be excavated, the master freshness is outstanding. There are almost no dubbing marks, twists, or noise. It’s a beautiful sound board that doesn’t cause any stress, even if it’s not the type that you fall in love with the goodness of the sound.
What flows out of such a vintage sound board is a fierce rush of rare songs with “super”. It’s a bonus, so let’s organize the set by comparing it with the main press CD.

After all, only 6 of the 17 songs played are covered. Moreover, “11 O’Clock Tick Tock” and “Touch” are in the original stage such as “Silver Lining” and “Trevor”, and there are also 6 other unreleased early songs. Moreover, the performance that spells such a set is also super rare. The ensemble is still developing, and after all, Bono’s singing voice! At that time, he was only 19 years old, and his voice had a green odor, and it was funny that he tried too hard to add intonation and facial expressions. You can enjoy a super valuable performance on the sound board that you can only listen to … It is a treasure among the treasures.
The main press CD was on a par with the official work as a live version of “BOY”, but this work is just a process of growth. 本編プレスCDは、まさに「オフィシャル代わり」を務める最高峰のサウンドボード・アルバム。『BOY』のライヴ篇としてコレクトすべき絶対盤です。そのボーナスには、さらに初期へと遡って「メジャーデビュー前」のU2が脳みそに流し込まれる極初期サウンドボードをご用意しました。
そんな本作に封じられているのは「1980年２月26日ダブリン公演」。そのFMサウンドボード録音です。この日は本編解説のスケジュールによるところの「英国#1」の10公演目であり、CBSアイルランドから出た1stシングル『Another Day』の発売当日。つまり、メジャー・レーベル“アイランド・レコード”と契約する約３ヶ月前という極初期のステージでした。
このショウはアイルランドのラジオ局“RTE Radio 2”で放送。そのFMサウンドボードはコアなコレクター間で愛され、『BOY』のリマスター盤にも「Cartoon World」が採用されました。本作は、そんなサウンドボードの完全版です。もちろん、単にフルショウ収録なだけではなく、サウンド面でも最高峰。本編プレスCDと同じ海外のU2研究家が厳選したベスト・マスターなのです。さすがに完全オフィシャル級の本編プレスCDには及ばず、いかにも発掘らしいサウンドボードではありますが、マスター鮮度は抜群。ダビング痕やヨレ、ノイズの類もほとんどない。音の良さに惚れ惚れするタイプとは言えないまでも、ストレスの種もまったくないビシッと美しいサウンドボードなのです。
そんなヴィンテージ・サウンドボードから流れ出るのは、「超」が付くレア曲の猛ラッシュ。一応ボーナスですので、本編プレスCDと比較でセットを整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。ボーナス・タイトルは本編の補完度を示す為に比較するのが慣例なのですが、実は本作に関してはあまり意味がない。何しろ、演奏される17曲中で被っている曲が６曲しかない。しかも「11 O’Clock Tick Tock」や「Touch」は「Silver Lining」「Trevor」といった原曲段階ですし、他にも未発表に終わった初期曲もたっぷり６曲も演奏されている。しかも、そんなセットを綴る演奏も超レア。アンサンブルもまだまだ発展途上ですし、何と言ってもボノの歌声！　当時の彼はまだ19歳で、その声には青臭さも滲み、懸命に抑揚と表情を付けようとするあまりやり過ぎてしまうところも微笑ましい。聴けるだけでありがたいレベルの超貴重なパフォーマンスをサウンドボードで楽しめる……まさに秘宝中の秘宝なのです。
本編プレスCDは『BOY』のライヴ篇としてオフィシャル作品と並ぶ存在でしたが、本作はまさに成長の過程。今まさに卵の殻を破り、外の空気を吸ったばかりのU2なのです。そんな極初期のフルショウを約１時間に渡って機微まで鮮やかなサウンドボードで味わえる秘宝盤。どうぞ、オフィシャル代わりの本編プレスCDと併せてお腹いっぱいお楽しみください。
