Since the breakthrough of “DAMN THE TORPEDOES”, all the works have marked the top 10 hits in the United States, and Tom Petty in 1983 was in the middle of a big heyday. Introducing a super-excellent live album set that conveys the scene.
The two performances of the sisters are included in this work. It is a 4-disc set that sets the transcendental audience recording of “April 19, 1983 + 21st Universal City”. The biggest attraction of this work is the amazing superb sound, “Is this the audience?” “No way mirrored recording !?” But before that, first of all, the position of the show. Recently, Tom Petty in the early 80’s has been re-evaluated in the collector’s world, and “BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER (Uxbridge 1395)” and “MILWAUKEE 1983 (Uxbridge 1252)” are very popular in our shop. In order to understand the positional relationship with such masterpieces, let’s look back on the overall picture of “LONG AFTER DARK Tour”.

● 1982
・ June 6: PEACE SUNDAY COMMITTEE BENEFIT appearance
・ September 1-19: North America # 1 (4 performances)
・ November 1: Performance in Paris
《November 2nd release of “LONG AFTER DARK”》
・ November 30-December 21: Europe (14 performances) ← * BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER
● 1983
・ January 17-April 25: North America # 2 (57 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ June 1-11: North America # 3 (6 performances)

This is Tom Petty in 1982/1983. “BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER” was the “Europe” leg, and “MILWAUKEE 1983” was the live album of “North America # 2”. The Universal City performance of this work was the same “North America # 2” leg as the latter, and it was the 54th / 55th concert about a month later.
This work recorded in such two performances is exactly the best sound with “super”. That is not a humorous dimension either. It is extremely clear and there is no sense of distance. The strength of the core, the fineness of the details, and the response of the sound can only be thought of as “that? FM sound board?” It completely surpasses the above two works. No, that’s not the case. Mike Millard’s masterpiece “LA FORUM 1981 (Uxbridge 1408)” also appeared on the previous tour, but this work is more amazing than the work of a legendary master who is famous in history.
Moreover, I’m afraid that both performances are transcendent. Both are digitized directly from the taper Omoto cassette called “markp”, but there are still so many masters … Moreover, the sense of unity is delicious because it is the same venue / same equipment / same recording artist. The bass may be faint at the beginning of “April 21 (DISC 3-4)”, but that is only the beginning of the first song “A One Story Town”. It takes about 1 minute to transform into a sound that is fully responsive.
Of course, even though the sounds are very similar, the two shows are completely separate performances. The set is also changing with daily songs. Here, let’s organize the two performances together.

● SHELTER era (4 songs)
・ American Girl: American Girl / Breakdown
・ Your Gonna Get It !: Listen To Her Heart (★) / I Need to Know
● BACKSTREET / MCA era (12 songs)
・ Destruction: Don’t Do Me Like That / Here Comes My Girl (★) / Louisiana Rain (★: April 19th only) / Refugee / Even The Losers (★: April 21st only)
・ Hard Promise: A Thing About You (★) / The Waiting / A Woman in Love (It’s Not Me) (★) / Kings Road (★)
・ Long After Dark: A One Story Town (★) / You Got Lucky / Change of Heart (★)
● Others (4 songs)
・ Hang On Sloopy (★) / Stories We Could Tell (★) / Heartbreakers Beach Party (★: April 19th only) / Shout (April 21st only)
* Note: “★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official edition “PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!”.

… And it looks like this. Two songs have been replaced in two days, from “Heartbreakers Beach Party / Louisiana Rain” to “Shout / Even The Losers”. Compared to “BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER” and “MILWAUKEE 1983” on the same tour, the former cannot be heard as “Here Comes My Girl”, “The Waiting”, “Hang On Sloopy”, and the latter as “Louisiana Rain”. In addition, the three songs “Even The Losers,” “Stories We Could Tell,” and “Heartbreakers Beach Party” are repertoires that cannot be heard in either of the two works.
Even so, I was surprised. A masterpiece live album that surpasses even that mirrored master is about to appear. There are also two in the same recorder collection. A recording set of beautiful sisters who can experience the best of Tom Petty’s heyday in 2 performances. Please enjoy the 4-disc set to your heart’s content!

《11月2日『LONG AFTER DARK』発売》
BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER

American Girl/Breakdown
Listen To Her Heart(★)/I Need to Know
●BACKSTREET/MCA
Don’t Do Me Like That/Here Comes My Girl(★)/Louisiana Rain(★:4月19日のみ)/Refugee/Even The Losers(★:4月21日のみ)
A Thing About You(★)/The Waiting/A Woman in Love (It’s Not Me)(★)/Kings Road(★)
A One Story Town(★)/You Got Lucky/Change of Heart(★)
Hang On Sloopy(★)/Stories We Could Tell(★)/Heartbreakers Beach Party(★:4月19日のみ)/Shout(4月21日のみ)
※注:「★」印は公式盤『PACK UP THE PLANTATION: LIVE!』

2日間で入れ替わっているのは2曲で「Heartbreakers Beach Party/Louisiana Rain」から「Shout/Even The Losers」へ差し替わっています。同じツアーの『BRIGHTON 1982 MASTER』『MILWAUKEE 1983』と比較しますと、前者で聴けないのは「Here Comes My Girl」「The Waiting」「Hang On Sloopy」、後者なら「Louisiana Rain」。さらに3曲「Even The Losers」「Stories We Could Tell」「Heartbreakers Beach Party」は両作どちらでも聴けないレパートリーです。
