2012’s TOM PETTY & THE HEART BREAKERS that made it the first European tour in 20 years. Introducing the finest stereo soundboard album containing the pattern.
Included in this work is “Lucca performance on June 29, 2012”. This is a live album when I participated in the annual Italian event “LUCCA SUMMER FESTIVAL 2012” that started in 1998. This event is a little different from a typical music festival. Normally, dozens of groups will appear in a couple of days, but “LUCCA SUMMER FESTIVAL” takes about one month and only one group per day. In the 2012 edition, 10 performances were held from June 29th to July 29th. The lineup is BLINK 182, Laura Pausini, Nora Jones, KASABIAN, Roger Hodgson, GOSSIP, Franco Battiato, DURAN DURAN, TOTO. TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS was an act on the first day.
This work that contains such a show is a superb sound board. The recording and mix are perfect, and the direct connection feeling unique to the sound board is the best. Tom’s singing voice screams near his sighing level, and the crying guitar phrase is immersive as Viverat sways in the inner ear. It is a live album that is suitable for being called the “official class”.
The show drawn with that sound is also amazing. When it comes to the 2010s, the official releases of “MOJO TOUR 2010” and “LIVE AT FENWAY PARK 2014” come to mind, but this work is very different. Of course, the major representative songs in “GREATEST HITS” that completely conquered the earth are the core, but it is not the only one. He also played covers such as FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Oh Well” and Chuck Berry’s “Carol”, and also showed the masking project TRAVELING WILBURYS “Handle With Care”. The ultimate feature is “Two Men Talking”. Although it was recorded in “THE VIC THEATER 2003 (Uxbridge 734)” which was released the other day, it is a rare number that has not been played 10 times as TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS with almost no other records. Others such as “Here Comes My Girl”, “Don’t Come Around Here No More”, “Free Fallin ‘”, “Yer So Bad”, “Learning To Fly”, “It’s Good To Be King” etc. There are lots of famous songs that I couldn’t listen to in MOJO TOUR 2010 ”and“ LIVE AT FENWAY PARK 2014 ”. You can enjoy it with a perfect sound board.
Tom who plays such a set and the Italian audience who welcomes Tom are also wonderful. As I did the other day, 2012 is a long tour of Europe. During that time, there was a one-off event live, but it was the first time in 20 years that I toured Europe firmly. For that reason, the long-awaited spectator caused a terrible enthusiasm (despite passing the sound board), and Tom, who witnessed it, returned with an enthusiastic performance. The MC, which looks happy, and the singing voice, which is full of tension, are full of that special feeling.
Although it is a gorgeous set that can be said to be a live version of “GREATEST HITS,” a cover and rare masterpieces are also added. It’s a masterpiece of a live album that has been overwhelmed by the excitement of Europe for 20 years. A superb sound board in which all of the three major elements of the masterpiece, “good sound,” “good song,” and “good performance,” are perfect. Please enjoy yourself.
本作に収められているのは「2012年６月29日ルッカ公演」。1998年から続くイタリアの恒例イベント“LUCCA SUMMER FESTIVAL 2012”に参加した際のライヴアルバムです。このイベントは一般的な音楽フェスとはちょっと違う。通常は２-３日間にまとめて数十組が出演しますが、“LUCCA SUMMER FESTIVAL”はおおよそ１ヶ月をかけて行われ、１日１組のみ。2012年版では“６月29日ー７月29日”の期間に10公演が開催されました。そのラインナップはBLINK 182、ラウラ・パウジーニ、ノラ・ジョーンズ、KASABIAN、ロジャー・ホジソン、GOSSIP、フランコ・バッティアート、DURAN DURAN、TOTO。TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERSは、初日アクトだったのです。
そんなショウを収めた本作は、極上のサウンドボード。収録もミックスも完璧でサウンドボード特有の能直結感も最高。トムの歌声は吐息レベルも耳元で鳴り、泣きのギターフレーズは内耳の奥でヴィヴラートが揺れるような没入感に襲われる。まさに「オフィシャル級」と呼ぶに相応しい堂々のライヴアルバムなのです。
そのサウンドで描かれるショウがまた、何とも素晴らしい。2010年代と言うと、公式リリースの『MOJO TOUR 2010』や『LIVE AT FENWAY PARK 2014』が浮かびますが、本作はそのどちらとも大きく違う。もちろん、地球を丸ごと制覇した『GREATEST HITS』収録の大代表曲群が軸となっていますが、それだけではない。FLEETWOOD MACの「Oh Well」やチャック・ベリーの「Carol」といったカバーを演奏し、さらに覆面プロジェクトTRAVELING WILBURYSの「Handle With Care」も披露。極めつけは「Two Men Talking」。先日リリースされた『THE VIC THEATRE 2003（Uxbridge 734）』でも収録されましたが、それ以外にほとんど記録がなく、TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERSとしては10回も演奏されていないレアナンバーなのです。他にも「Here Comes My Girl」「Don’t Come Around Here No More」「Free Fallin’」「Yer So Bad」「Learning To Fly」「It’s Good To Be King」等々、お馴染みではあっても『MOJO TOUR 2010』『LIVE AT FENWAY PARK 2014』では聴けなかった名曲が目白押し。それが完璧なサウンドボードで楽しめるのです。
そんなセットを演じるトム、そしてそのトムを迎えるイタリアの観客も素晴らしい。先日した通り、2012年は久々のヨーロッパ・ツアー。その間も単発的なイベントライヴはあったのですが、しっかりとヨーロッパを巡業したのは20年ぶりだったのです。それだけに待ちに待った観客は（サウンドボード越しにもかかわらず）凄まじい熱狂を巻き起こし、それを目の当たりにしたトムも熱演で返す。嬉しそうなMCにも、張りのある歌声にも、その特別な感慨が溢れているのです。
