[The highest peak of a large classic sound board that exceeds the official] This is the 1990 TEARS FOR FEARS. “THE SEEDS OF LOVE” was released in September 1989, but the tour started after the beginning of the year. The circuit was centered around Europe / North America, with Orita’s “CIRCLE OF ONE” on the way. Although the official “GOING TO CALIFORNIA” and this work are in North America, the time was very different, and this work was the 9th performance of “North America # 1” at the beginning.

This show is also known to have been broadcast on the radio, and its air check has become a major staple that produces innumerable existing groups. This work is also the sound board for broadcasting, but it is the ultimate board with a different dimension than before. It is a CD made from the pre-FM broadcast master itself, making full use of the latest digital equipment. The recording time is longer than all the previous releases, and the show is completely recorded, but the sound itself is more than that. However, when compared with this work, the fineness of the sound is not good enough, and the ensemble has a lumpy feeling. On the other hand, this work is delicate in the dimension of vibe, from each instrument to each note, and even if the instrument groups overlap, it depicts a three-dimensional sound space without mixing. The vocalization of Roland Orzabal & Curt Smith with Oleta Adams is a breathtaking level, and the guitar and synth are clear from the touch to the nuances of the disappearing sound. Each one of them glitters like silk, and the tapestry is knitted without mixing.

【オフィシャルも超えた大定番サウンドボードの最高峰盤】
これが1990年のTEARS FOR FEARS。『THE SEEDS OF LOVE』をリリースしたのは1989年9月でしたが、ツアー開始は年が明けてから。途中オリータの『CIRCLE OF ONE』を挟みつつ、欧州/北米を中心にサーキットしました。公式『GOING TO CALIFORNIA』も本作も北米なものの時期は大きく異なり、本作は序盤となる「北米#1」の9公演目にあたるコンサートでした。

このショウはラジオ放送された事でも知られ、そのエアチェックが無数の既発群を生み出す大定番となってきました。本作もまたその放送用サウンドボードなのですが、これまでとは次元の違う究極盤。プレFMの放送原盤そのものから最新デジタル機材を駆使してCD化したものなのです。これまでのあらゆる既発よりも収録時間が長くショウを完全収録しているわけですが、それ以上なのがサウンドそのもの。公式制作の原盤から起こしていますので、ダビング劣化はもちろんの事、受信ノイズもなければ僅かな音揺れさえも存在しない。トランスファーの確度も極めて高く、ヒスもスクラッチも一切ない。まさにマスターテープに吹き込まれた音がそのままスピーカーから流れ出る超極上のステレオ・サウンドボードなのです。

実際、本作はオフィシャル作品さえ超えている。前述の通り『GOING TO CALIFORNIA』があるわけですが、間違いなく本作の方が上。『GOING TO CALIFORNIA』とて問答無用の名作ですし、音声に欠点などない。しかし、本作と比較してしまうと鳴りの細やかさが今ひとつでアンサンブルに塊感が出てしまっている。それに対して本作は楽器1つひとつ、1ノート1ノートに至るまでヴァイヴの次元で繊細で、楽器群が重なり合っても混じり合わずに立体的な音空間を描き出している。ローランド・オーザバル&カート・スミスにオリータ・アダムスを加えたヴォーカリゼイションは息づかいレベルですし、ギターもシンセもタッチから消えゆく鳴りのニュアンスまで鮮明。それが1つひとつ絹糸のようにキラめきながら、決して混じり合わずにタペストリーを編み上げていくのです。
