January 28, 1978 Winterland performance recorded with the finest sound board recording. At the time of the release of the blockbuster “The Grand Illusion”, you can enjoy the dynamic and dramatic live performance of Styx, which has achieved commercial success, with a lively mix of line recordings. The recording level of the mixing desk is adjusted in the opening The Grand Illusion, and the volume may change in the song, but after that, you can enjoy the realistic sound by stable sound board recording. A selection of songs from the second album’s hit numbers Lady, Gold-certified “Equinox”, “Crystal Ball”, and “The Grand Illusion”. The prog-rock sound of Dennis’ keyboard, James’ hard-edged guitar, and Tommy Shaw’s personality, which specializes in country and funk, burst on stage as well as the album. The strongest live album of American prog rock heavyweight Sticks that invites the audience to a spacey sound world with the blockbuster single Come Sail Away, Tommy’s Fooling Yourself, James’ Miss America and the latest masterpieces.

A sound board sound source that recorded the San Francisco Winterland performance on January 28, 1978, which is the final stage of “The Grand Illusion Tour”. The opening of the tour, which started in 1977, was “Put Me On”, but the title track of the latest album is the opening. The live arrangement that I was accustomed to listening to later was completed as early as this time, and it makes me grin. It’s interesting that Dennis DeYoung sings the lyrics word by word. There is a volume change in the song of The Grand Illusion by adjusting the recording level of the mixing desk, and the bass sound of Chuck Panozzo suddenly becomes louder in the latter half of Lorelei, but the latter half of Lorelei is a heavy metallic improvisation. The dramatic arrangement in which the battle unfolds is a masterpiece. Mademoisell sung by Tommy is a rare song because I couldn’t listen to it later. The falsetto of the chorus remains in my ears. Fooling Yourself, which develops picturesque progressive hard rock, is like GENESIS. Denis’s classic Suite Madame Blue has a long “Mo” and the explosive excitement after the chorus of “America” is the best. You can hear Tommy’s short acoustic guitar solo in front of the Crystal Ball, but it’s funny that Tommy’s predecessor reminds me of the guitar piece “Prelude 12” left on “EQUINOX”. In front of Lady, you can listen to Dennis’ stylish piano solo. Man In The Wilderness is also a song that I couldn’t listen to in full performance in later years, and it should be noted that the ending arrangement is quite different from the studio version, and it will give an impression unique to live performances. There is no loss in buying this boot for this one song. The blockbuster Come Sail Away is also a live arrangement that I’ve become accustomed to listening to later, and I thought that the main story would end with the dramatic Come Sail Away, so I ended the curtain with JY’s hard drivein number Midnight Ride. Encore’s Miss America and Born For Adventure are also angry hard rock, and JY’s one-man who just said “I’m the main character!” In the middle of the stage with three explosive hard rocks from Midnight Ride. It’s like a show. In particular, STYX is unique to this era, ending the live with Born For Adventure, which is absolutely impossible now. In addition, the sound quality of the TRIAL board is a vivid mix that is gentle on the ears, and the Blue Cafe board is mastered and crisp. In any case, the latest work is a hit and the live of the golden age just before the announcement of the next work “PIECES OF EIGHT” is completely recorded, so fans of American progressive rock will enjoy it.
