STYX released the whole concept work “THE MISSION” as the first original album in 14 years. The latest and finest live album is here.
They are getting hot with the original album after a long time, but with the announcement of the new work, the coupling tour “UNITED WE ROCK TOUR 2017” with REO SPEEDWAGON and Don Felder has also started. It covers the topic of melodious rock fans. This work is an audience recording of “July 19, 2017 West Palm Beach Performance” among such notable tours. First of all, let’s introduce the whole picture of the attention tour.
“Released” THE MISSION “on June 16”
・ June 20-July 2: North America # 1 (9 performances)
・ July 18-31: North America # 2 (10 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ August 11-22: North America # 3 (9 performances)
Above, all 18 performances. Many coupling tours have been planned so far, but this time it is just after the new work. It started four days after the release of “THE MISSION” and has been touring the United States until August. REO SPEEDWAGON and Don Felder haven’t released any new works, and the focus of attention is definitely STYX. The West Palm Beach performance of this work was the second performance of “North America # 2” with about two weeks off.
The biggest point of this work is the show that burns up with the announcement of the new work for the first time in 14 years, but the sound that conveys it is also awesome. It is a work by a famous recording artist whose trend is currently attracting attention, and the extra-thick sound that maximizes the performance of the high-end machine “Schoeps MK41” is wonderful. Anyway, it is thick and thick. If the brilliant treble is vivid to the details, the bass, which tends to be a weak point in the audience, is also thick and strong. What’s more, it’s so real that you can see that all of them are shaking the walls and floor of the venue while approaching with a direct feeling of zero distance. Of course, you can call it a “sound board,” but if you call it that way, you might be rude to the sound source. It is such a high quality sound.
The latest show drawn with that quality is also really wonderful. Since “THE MISSION” was Tommy Shaw’s whole concept album, a complete story live was expected, but that was Azuke (?). From the new work, “Overture”, “Gone, Gone, Gone”, “Radio Silence”, and “Khedive” are arranged at key points, and you can listen to a lot of the major songs of the past. Of course, “Lady,” “Lorelei,” and “Light Up” before Tommy will also be performed, but it’s about the golden age from “CRYSTAL BALL” to “PARADISE THEATER.” The blockbuster songs became a tsunami and rushed to Aoisei.
And the performance is also fresh. Anyway, I’m burning with the passion of “Listen to the new song!” There is no sense of work or nostalgia, and the beautiful melody is an unprecedentedly enthusiastic performance. In addition, Lawrence Garwan’s keyboard solo is also new. Starting from the new song “Khedive”, he plays QUEEN’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and The Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers”. Of course, it will lead to “Come Sail Away” instead of full performance, but the venue will boil after singing enthusiastically, which can not be called play. The highlight is that the venue is brought together by force and greeted with a big chorus … It is the best moving scene even in a show full of big hit songs.
STYX revived with the concept album “THE MISSION”, which is reminiscent of the golden age, nowadays when the famous bands of yesteryear have become new works. It is a masterpiece of a live album that captures the overflowing spirit and passion with the finest sound. If it’s such a wonderful live, you’ll want to expect a miracle to come back to Japan, but first of all, please enjoy it with the live album. It is a gem of super-superb sound suitable for it.
