What is recorded in this work is “August 22, 1992 Donington performance”. This is a stereo sound board recording when he appeared in the biggest rock festival “MONSTERS OF ROCK” in the UK. This year’s MONSTERS OF ROCK is famous for the fact that the big bird IRON MAIDEN left an official live album, but SKID ROW acted as the second building. This work is a sound board album that should be called “SKID ROW version LIVE AT DONING TON”.

This is SKID ROW from 1991 to 1993. In 1992, the fourth performance in Japan was realized, but the appearance of MONSTERS OF ROCK was about a month before that. The pattern was broadcast on the radio only for the super famous festival, and even if the FM sound board was loved, it came. This work is also a live album based on the air check at that time, and it is the highest peak. The point is mastering. If you know the previous recording, it will come to you, but probably because it was a broadcasting accident at that time, the perfect recording has not been found for this live. There were many momentary skips, and all the masters were strangely hard to hear. This work is a carefully modified version of such a chopped master. Complement from another part, or connect the beats in line. Although it is not a live performance itself in academic research, it is finished so that it can be enjoyed seamlessly as a music album (however, only one place, the intro part of “Makin’A Mess” cannot be corrected and warped. There is a feeling).
Of course, the sound side is also perfect. Not to mention the just and stable pitch, the slightly violent baseline has been balanced with the whole to make it easier to hear. What is drawn in such a best version is a show with a fierce explosion tension facing the sacred place Donington. It’s not a full show because the opening “Slave To The Grind” wasn’t broadcast (what a hell!), But all the others are included. Let’s organize the contents here.

KISS’s “Cold Gin” and JUDAS PRIEST’s “Delivering The Goods” are repertoires that I couldn’t even hear in the Japanese performance pro shot “BUDOKAN 1992”. Moreover, before entering “Cold Gin”, improvisational play was also shown. Starting with “Children Of The Damned” by IRON MAIDEN, who served as a big bird on the day, he will perform the masterpieces of MOTLEY CRUE and METALLICA as he can think of. It’s not the type of music that is playful, but that’s why it’s interesting. Normally, these covers are the ones that choose the classics of their predecessors, but SKID ROW plays songs of the same era without worrying about it. It’s also a scene that symbolizes the American grandeur that surrounds the entire show (even so, the bus looks great on KISS).
Despite being a big stage FM broadcast in the golden age, the MONSTERS OF ROCK sound board was not widely known due to skipping. It is a piece that repairs the defect as much as possible and sublimates it into a musical work. Since it is a live broadcast system, it is a masterpiece of a sound board with little hope of discovering a broadcast master. Please take this opportunity to fully enjoy the brilliance of the golden age, which was so dazzling.

Maybe there was a problem with broadcasting at that time, but all the masters were out of stock, but this work is the highest peak version that has been carefully adjusted. It is seamlessly finished as a music album (only the intro of “Makin’A Mess” has a warp feeling). The sound has also been refined, and the slightly violent bass line is well-balanced with the whole, making it easy to listen to. Unfortunately, the opening “Slave To The Grind” wasn’t broadcast, so it’s incomplete, but you can enjoy delicious covers such as the first two special songs, “Psycho Therapy”, “Cold Gin”, and “Delivering The Goods”.

そんな本作に記録されているのは「1992年８月22日ドニントン公演」。英国最大のロックフェス“MONSTERS OF ROCK”に出演した際のステレオ・サウンドボード録音です。この年のMONSTERS OF ROCKは、大トリIRON MAIDENが公式ライヴアルバムを残した事でも有名ですが、セカンドビルを務めたのがSKID ROW。本作は「SKID ROW版のLIVE AT DONINGTON」とも言うべきサウンドボード・アルバムなのです。
また、彼ら自身の歴史に目を向けると、本作は“SLAVE TO THE GRIND Tour”の一幕でもありました。ここで丸２年に及んだ絶頂時代の全景も振り返っておきましょう。

これが1991年ー1993年のSKID ROW。1992年には四度目の来日公演も実現したわけですが、MONSTERS OF ROCK出演はその約１ヶ月前でもありました。超有名フェスだけにその模様はラジオでも放送され、FMサウンドボードが愛されても来ました。本作も同じように当時のエアチェックを元にしたライヴアルバムで、その最高峰にあたるものなのです。そのポイントはマスタリング。既発をご存知の方ならピンと来ると思いますが、当時放送事故でもあったのかこのライヴは完璧な録音が見つかっていない。瞬間的な音飛びが多く、妙に聞き苦しいマスターばかりだったのです。本作は、そんなブツ切りマスターを入念に補整されたもの。別パートから補完したり、拍を揃えて繋げたり。学術研究的には通しライヴそのものではないのですが、音楽アルバムとしてシームレスに楽しめるように仕上げられているのです（ただし１ヶ所、「Makin’ A Mess」のイントロ部だけは補整が不可能でワープ感があります）。
もちろん、サウンド面の磨き込みも万全。ジャストにビシッと安定したピッチは当然として、やや暴れていたベースラインも全体とのバランスを整えて聴きやすく仕上げました。そんなベスト・バージョンで描かれるのは、聖地ドニントンに臨む爆テンションも苛烈なショウ。オープニングの「Slave To The Grind」が放送されなかった（何てことを！）ためにフルショウではありませんが、他は全曲収録。ここでその内容も整理しておきましょう。

……と、このようになっています。初期２枚の濃縮還元も美味しいですが、この時期は多彩なカバーもポイント。KISSの「Cold Gin」やJUDAS PRIESTの「Delivering The Goods」は日本公演プロショット『BUDOKAN 1992』でも聴けなかったレパートリーです。しかも、「Cold Gin」に突入する前には即興のお遊びも披露。当日大トリを務めたIRON MAIDENの「Children Of The Damned」から始まり、MOTLEY CRUE、METALLICAの名曲を思いつくままに演奏する。あくまで遊び感覚で音楽的にどうこう言うタイプではないのですが、だからこそ面白い。普通、こうしたカバーは先人のクラシックスを選ぶものですが、SKID ROWは気にするそぶりもなく同時代の曲を繰り出していく。ショウ全体を包み込むアメリカ人らしい大らかさを象徴するようなシーンでもあるのです（それにしてもバスはKISSがよく似合いますね）。
黄金時代の大舞台FM放送ながら、音飛びがあるために広く知られてこなかったMONSTERS OF ROCKサウンドボード。その欠点を可能な限り補修し、音楽作品に昇華させた１枚です。生放送系なので放送マスターが発掘される望みも薄いサウンドボードの大傑作。あまりにも眩しかった黄金時代の輝き、どうぞこの機会に胸いっぱいお楽しみください。
