2009年、ロンドンはハマースミス・アポロにて、5日間に渡って行われたモット・ザ・フープルの歴史的再結成コンサートより、3日目の10月3日公演を極上レベルのオーディエンス録音で完全収録。トレーダー間でも一切出回っていないオリジナルDATマスターを使用した必聴盤。驚くほどクリアーでダイレクトな高音質サウンドで収録されており、安定感も抜群、今回の歴史に残る再編ギグを楽しむにはうってつけの好盤に仕上がっています。オープニングのHymn For The Dudesで、既に、その音のパンチの良さとスケール感満点の最高レベルのサウンドに誰もが大いに驚くことでしょう。サウンドのバランス･分離感、共に非常に良好で、ベースの一音一音までがはっきりと聞き分けれれるレベルです。カッチリしたアンサンブルとは無縁のルーズで味わい深い、まさにブリティッシュ･バンドでしかありえないボーカルとバンドの音の質感は絶品。セットは同時発売の最終日とほぼ同じですが、ショウ後半にはYour Cheating Heart、Let’s Talk About Usが演奏されています。Ready For Loveではミック・ラルフスが、オヴァレンド・ワッツはBorn Late 58でリードボーカルをとります。オリジナル･ドラマーのデイル・グリフィンはRoll Away Stone, All Young Dudes, Keep A Knockinの３曲でゲスト参加。メインセットを締めるAll The Way From Memphisではデフ・レパードのジョー・エリオットがコーラスで参加します。ショウラスト8曲ではイアンとミックの家族がコーラスとて参加。会場全体の大盛り上がりの様子が、最高レベルのサウンドで収録されています。2時間6分に及ぶ感動のライブ･ドキュメント。

イン ターネット上でもいち早くライブ音源が流通した ものだが、ブートレッグでのリリースもこれまた 早かった。日本を相手にしているブートレッグで ここまで早い音を届けてくれるのも嬉しいもので、特にモット・ザ・フープルというバンドの日 本での人気を考えたらかなり驚異的な話である。なぜならモット・ザ・フープルのブートレッグというのは実は相当に数が少なく、ほとんど数えら れる程度しかこれまでにリリースされていなかっ たからだ。市場人気度のバロメーターでもある ブートレッグ界でのリリースの少なさはやはりバ ンドに対する興味の深さを物語っているものなの だ。そんな状況下、速攻で再結成ライブをリリー スしてきたのがUxbridge社の二つのタイトルで、本作はハマースミスアポロ公演三日目となる10月3日 の土曜日のライブを見事に完全パッケージ化した アイテム。当然ながらDATマスターによるオーディエンス録音ソースの収録だが、問題なくライブの全貌を楽しむことができることは言うまでもない。オープニングから大いに盛り上がっている様子が聴けるが、その実モット・ ザ・フープルは最初に「Hymn For The Dudes」という静 かめなアコースティックな曲を配置して静かに幕 開けを飾る。というワケで実質的には「Rock’n Roll Queen」で思い切り観客がノリまくっており、更に 「Sweet Jane」と続くあたりで既に観客が恍惚として いる姿を目に浮かべることが容易だろう。そして 「Sucker」による大合唱で既に皆出来上がってい る。イギリスでの人気の程が伺えるのはこういう曲での白熱具合と言う点で、日本ではまず考えら れないのだが、大ヒットアルバムともなった『All The Young Dudes」に収録されている曲で、シングルでは B面扱いだったのでここまで盛り上がるのかという 点に驚いた。そして「Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door」という ベタな曲、イアン・ハンターの大好きなディランというのもあるのだが、数曲静かにアコース ティック路線をプレイして会場を落ち着かせてい るようだ。そのアコースティックタイムを終える とミック・ラルフスによる「Ready For Love」が奏で られる。普段ポール・ロジャースの歌声�に聴き 慣れている本人や我々の耳には非常に新鮮なモッ ト・ザ・フープルバージョン、というよりもミッ ク・ラルフスバージョンで、軽めにプレイされて いるのも特徴的。続いての「Born Late 58」ではオ ヴェレンド・ワッツが歌っているのでイアン・ハンターがベースを弾いているという珍しい展開も 聴けるというものだ。そして静かなバラッドを一 曲挟んでからは常に暴動の元となってきた「Walking With A Mountain」という最高のロックンロールが当時と変わらない攻撃性を持ってプレイされており、 途中「Jumping Jack
>> Flash…」と歌っている部分も愛嬌 があって面白い。ステージも終盤に近づき、盛り上がりのロックンロールパーティも終わりが見え てきた頃、「The Journey」というモット・ザ・フー プルのアルバムの中でも非常にマイナー扱いされ ている『Brain Capers』に収録されている実にしっと りとくる楽曲を奏でてくれているところが心に染 みる。イアン・ハンターから全ての野郎共に捧げ る歌という感じで会場も聴いている我々も含めて 正にクライマックスを迎えるシーンだ。そして照 れ隠しのように「ロックンロールの黄金時代」で 笑い飛ばしてくれる。何とも愛らしいバンドじゃ ないか。ここからのオンパレードについてはただ ひたすら楽しんでもらいたいという一言に尽きる が、最後の最後に演奏されたのは何と本当にモッ ト・ザ・フープルが 1974年の解散直前にレコーディ ングした最後のセッション曲なのだ。こんな曲で>> 最後を飾ることが出来るとは何とも微笑ましいと いうべきか、大人になったと言うべきか。そうして感動の2時間以上にも渡るライブが終演を迎える のだが、最後まで歌い続ける観客の歓声がこの再結成ライブの成功を物語る素晴らしい時間を過ごしたと教えてくれる。
