On January 23, 1976, New York completely recorded the second day performance of Radio City Music Hall with the finest audience recording. It is an amazing master quality version of a completely different master from the “New York 1976” (Langley) already issued on the same day, which was incorrectly listed as 22nd. It has been recorded with the highest sound quality as the fourth purple audience recording from Burn at the beginning, and will invite the surprise of mania. There is no head cut of Lady Luck that has already been cut (MC between songs is also recorded non-cut). With Lady Luck, the bass sounds a bit like a boost, but it gradually improves. Instead, the drums and organs are clear so you don’t feel uncomfortable. After Lady Luck, David sings “New York New York” and Standard. Love Child is also recorded with a thick and wonderful sound. 13 minutes of funky Gettin ‘Tighter resonates with Glen’s intense bass and vocals. John’s percussive organ judgment is great, and the funk numbers are well handled. After the song ends, MC will tell whether Glen is trying to stop the fight in the hall, “Please wait. There is no violence”. Smoke On The Water, followed by David’s regular introduction of songs, enjoys a touching time when Georgia On My Mind is sung with Glen’s stunning vocals in the 6th minute. The tape change cut will be after the end of Smoke On The Water and will not affect the song. In Lazy following John’s classical solo, David and Glenn share the vocals, and the backs also captivate the audience with a more jam-like play. A solo with a four-minute Tommy slide is amazing. Following the drum solo, Homeward Strut from Tommy’s solo “Teaser” will be played. Glen Time’s vocals are so intense This Time Around-Owed to ‘G’ is the peak of the concert. You can hear the annoying American audience listening silently. Disc 2 started with Tommy’s 7-minute guitar solo. The medley straight rock Drifter and heavy heavy Stormbringer are also impressive. Tommy’s flowing solo at Stormbringer is also a listening place. It’s amazing how clear Pais drums are in Going Down. David’s vocal in this song is reminiscent of the later White Snake. The MC of “We need you!” And the powerful Highway Star will end the show with David and Glen ’s luxurious twin vocals. In order to record everything that was in the tape, the fade-in & out process is not intentionally performed. In the beginning of the US tour, you can fully enjoy the outstanding performance that makes you feel a tight and coherent groove that dispels the image of the previous year’s Japanese performance. The high-grade title of the 4th purple that appeared after a long time will be released on the limited press CD.

1976年1月23日、ニューヨークはラジオ・シティ･ミュージック･ホール２日目公演を極上オーディエンス録音で完全収録。日付が誤って22日と記載されている同日既発「New York 1976」(Langley)とは完全別マスターの、驚愕のマスター･クオリティ･ヴァージョンです。冒頭のBurnから第四期パープルのオーディエンス録音としては最高峰の音質で録音されており、マニアの驚きを誘うことでしょう。既発ではカットのあったLady Luckの頭切れもありません（曲間のMCもノンカットで収録）。Lady Luckでは低音がややブースト気味になりますが、徐々に改善されていきます。その代わりドラム、オルガンはクリアーですので、不快な感じはありません。Lady Luck終演後、デヴィッドが「New York New York」とスタンダードを歌います。Love Childも太く素晴らしい音で収録されています。13分に及ぶファンキーなGettin’ Tighterではグレンの強烈なベースとボーカルが生き生きと響き渡ります。ジョンのパーカッシブなオルガンさばきも素晴らしく、ファンクなナンバーも問題なくこなしています。同曲終了後、グレンが場内の喧嘩を止めようとしているのか「ちょっと待ってくれよ。ヴァイオレンスはなしだ」とMCします。デヴィットのお決まりの曲紹介に続いてのSmoke On The Waterでは6分台にグレンの見事なボーカルでGeorgia On My Mind歌われ感動的な時を楽しめます。テープチェンジのカットははSmoke On The Water終演後にあり楽曲への影響はありません。ジョンのクラシカルなソロに続くLazyではデヴィットとグレンがボーカルを分け合い、バック陣もよりジャム風のプレイで聴衆を魅了します。4分台のトミーのスライドを絡めたソロは凄い迫力です。ドラムソロに続いてはトミーのソロ「Teaser」収録のHomeward Strutがプレイされます。グレンのボーカルがあまりに強烈なThis Time Around～Owed to ‘G’はコンサートのピークでしょう。煩いアメリカの聴衆も押し黙って聴き入っている様子が伝わってきます。ディスク２はトミーの7分間のギターソロからスタート。メドレーでストレートなロックのDrifter、ベースがヘヴィなStormbringerも迫力満点です。Stormbringerでのトミーの流れるようなソロも聴き所です。Going Downでのペイスのドラムのクリアーさといったら驚くほどです。この曲でのデヴィッドのボーカルは後のホワイトスネイクを連想させます。「We need you!」のMCも迫力のあるラストのHighway Star もデヴィッドとグレンの贅沢なツインボーカルが豪快にショウを締めくくります。テープに入っていた全てを収録するため故意にフェイドイン＆アウト処理は行っていません。USツアーの序盤ながら、前年の日本公演のイメージを払拭するような、タイトでまとまりのあるグルーブを多分に感じさせる抜群のパフォーマンスをたっぷりと堪能できます。久々に登場した第四期パープルのハイグレードタイトルが、限定プレスCDにてリリース決定です。

1976年、4期DEEP PURPLE-最後のアメリカ・ツアーから、1月23日ニューヨークでのステージを収録したプレスCD。同日のステージを収録した『NEW YORK 1976』(LANGLEY)では、1月22日とクレジットされていたが、正しくは23日とのこと。収録されている音源は、『NEW YORK 1976』とは異なるマスター・テープを使用しており、よりクリアな音質でカットが少なく、この日のステージを完全収録に近く堪能出来る。バンドはオープニングの「Burn」から絶好調と言っても良いステージングで、デイヴィッドとグレンのヴォーカルも素晴らしいハーモニーで、トミーのギターも若干聴きづらいが、伸びやかなソロを聴かせてくれて素晴らしい。グレンのソウルフルなヴォーカルとハード・ロックというよりはファンク・サウンドが真骨頂の「Gettin’ Tighter」を聴いていると、今更ながらに4期DEEP PURPLEの新たな方向性が見えるようだが、これが一部のメンバーのエゴと評された時代もあったのも事実だ。アンコールは3期DEEP PURPLEのツアーに準ずるように、「Going Down」「Highway Star」がプレイされるが、75年の日本公演でのプレイが嘘のように弾きまくるトミーと、最後まで枯れることなくハイトーンを聴かせてくれるグレンのヴォーカルが最高だ。惰性のようなステージを見せることもあった最後のイギリス・ツアーが信じられないような熱いプレイが楽しめるだろう。
