“September 8, 2004 London performance” is included in this work. Audience recording recorded on the first day of the “Wembley Arena” performance for two consecutive days. This is RUSH’s 2004. As usual, they traveled around North America and went to Europe at the end of the tour. We conducted a European tour for the first time since “ROLL THE BONES TOUR” in 1992. The first performance place is London. This work is an audience recording that vacuum-packs the scene that seems to be such a “re-debut”.
The sound of this work, which recorded a show with a special feeling, is also special. Although it is the original master of this work only, which was handed over from the recorder himself, the taper is the master who is familiar with “British master” in our shop. He was a big veteran who continued to record the British scene from the 1980s to the present, and of course he had a series of masterpieces in the 2000s. Moreover, this work is one of the best in such a masterpiece collection. Although he is a unique recorder who has both a realistic atmosphere and modern clarity, this work has a strong emphasis on “clearness”. Of course, although the reality of the scene is engraved in this work, the performance sound that penetrates the center is very powerful and the outline is clear. If you listen with headphones, the hall sound is not zero, but even that does not cloud the details, but rather it is only the thickness of the ensemble. The snare drum, which tends to be squishy in the audience, is also dense, and the vocals are clear up to each word of the lyrics. The balance is gorgeous and crisp as if it were a little FM broadcast.
What is drawn with such a sound is exactly the on-site experience of “R30: 30TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR”. There have been three fixed set tours in RUSH’s history, one of which is the 30th anniversary. Therefore, this work is also a familiar set in the official work, but it is also a good opportunity, so let’s organize it here.

… And it looks like this. This volume should have been put together. This means abundant variety, and while making the three pieces of “MOVING PICTURES”, “ROLL THE BONES”, and “VAPOR TRAILS” a little thicker, it is a selection that is not biased from each era. It is a culmination suitable for singing the “30th anniversary”. Under such circumstances, the cover songs of “FEEDBACK” attract the ears. Eddie Cochran’s “Summertime Blues” was also performed on the next “SNAKES & ARROWS TOUR”, but the covers of the other three songs are valuable limited numbers only for this tour.
Such a set is familiar in the official work “R30: 30TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR”, but its enthusiastic performance is not familiar. The enthusiasm put into each song is tremendous, Geddy Lee’s vocals are powerful one by one, Alex Lifeson’s riffs and Neil Peart’s stick judgment are sharp. RUSH always plays at a high level, but the ensemble that is decided to be crazy is ridiculously comfortable.

RUSH revived from the suspension of activities and returned to England in the new century. It is a live album with the best sound that a master put his arm to record such “the first day of reunion”. It’s so dazzling for Japanese people who couldn’t “revisit”, and it’s a 3-disc set that is so dazzling because the possibilities of the future are forever cut off. Please enjoy it to your heart’s content.

30周年にして８年ぶりという英国ツアーが実現した2004年のRUSH。その現場を伝える極上オリジナル録音が登場です。
そんな本作に収められているのは「2004年９月８日ロンドン公演」。２日連続だった“ウェンブリー・アリーナ”公演の初日で記録されたオーディエンス録音です。このツアーはオフィシャル作品『R30: 30TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR』にも残されていますので、まずは当時のスケジュールを振り返り、ショウのポジションを確かめてみましょう。

これがRUSHの2004年。いつものように北米をじっくりと巡った彼らは、その終盤に渡欧。1992年の“ROLL THE BONES TOUR”以来となるヨーロッパ・ツアーを実施しました。その最初の公演地こそがロンドン。本作は、そんな“再デビュー”とさえ言えそうな現場を真空パックしたオーディエンス録音なのです。
なんとも特別感漂うショウを記録した本作は、サウンドもスペシャル。録音家本人から譲られた本作だけのオリジナル・マスターなのですが、そのテーパーこそ当店では“英国の巨匠”でお馴染みの名手。80年代から現在まで英国シーンを記録し続けている大ベテランでして、もちろん2000年代も名作を連発していました。しかも、本作はそんな名手コレクションの中でも格別の１本。リアルな空気感と現代的なクリアさの両立が個性の録音家ですが、本作はグッと「クリアさ」に比重が傾いている。もちろん、本作にも現場のリアリティは刻まれているものの、そのド真ん中を貫く演奏音がえらく力強く、輪郭もクッキリとしている。ヘッドフォンで聴けばホール鳴りもゼロではないのですが、それさえディテールを曇らせることなく、むしろアンサンブルの厚みにしかなっていない。オーディエンスではスカスカになりがちなスネアも密度タップリですし、ヴォーカルも歌詞の１語１語まではっきり。そのバランスは、ちょっとしたFM放送かのようにゴージャスでキリッとしているのです。
そんなサウンドで描かれるのは、まさに『R30: 30TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR』の現場体験。RUSHの歴史には固定セットのツアーが３回ありましたが、30周年はその１つ。そのため本作も公式作品でお馴染みのセットではあるのですが、良い機会でもありますのでここで整理してみましょう。

……と、このようになっています。まとめたはずなのにこのボリューム。これは即ちバラエティの豊富さを意味しており、『MOVING PICTURES』『ROLL THE BONES』『VAPOR TRAILS』の３枚をやや厚めにしつつも各時代から偏りないセレクション。まさに「30周年」を謳うに相応しい集大成です。そんな中で耳を惹くのは『FEEDBACK』のカバー曲たち。エディ・コクランの「Summertime Blues』は次の“SNAKES & ARROWS TOUR”でも演奏されましたが、他３曲のカバーはこのツアーだけの貴重な限定ナンバーなのです。
そんなセットは公式作『R30: 30TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR』でお馴染みのものですが、その熱演ぶりはお馴染みではない。１曲１曲に込められた気迫が凄まじく、ゲディー・リーのヴォーカルは一声一声が力強く、アレックス・ライフソンのリフもニール・パートのスティックさばきもいちいちシャープ。常に高度な演奏を絶やさないRUSHではありますが、ビッシビシと決まりまくるアンサンブルがとんでもなく気持ちいいのです。

活動休止から甦り、新世紀に英国にも戻ってきたRUSH。そんな“再会の初日”を名手が腕によりをかけて記録した極上サウンドのライヴアルバムです。「再訪」が叶わなかった日本人にとってはあまりにも眩しく、未来の可能性が永遠に絶たれた今だからこそ胸に染みる３枚組。どうぞ、心ゆくまでじっくりとご堪能ください。
