On January 7, 1978 New York recorded the podium performance in full stereo sound board recording. In the summer of 77, base changed from Jackie to Vicky Blue of 17 years, almost like the same time, vocalist Sherry · Currie withdrew. We have live performances of the time when the four person formation was established with Joan Jet and Rita Ford as the center. The set is an initial number plus new songs and cover songs, and Joan, who is a lead vocalist in all songs, overwhelms the audience with a powerful and energetic performance, reminiscent of a big hit in later solos. Rita listens to riffs full of excitement and authentic guitar solos with listening compassion at various places. New recruit Vicki is introduced as a new bassist after the new song You’re Too Possessive. Four songs of Wasted, You’re Too Possessive, Wait For Me, School Days are being performed live from “Waitin ‘For The Night” just released. It is a valuable live document that captured the runnerways after Sherry leaves.

Runaways Soundboard sound source that contained New York performances of 78 years. Joan Jet and Rita Ford on the guitar, Vicky Blue on the bass, and drums by Sandy West (who died in cancer in 2006). At the beginning I started with a single cut Wasted. This is familiar to fans as a rock and roll number by Jon Jet. The following Blackmail is a middle tempo blues taste song recorded first, and the drum of Sandy West inscribes a beat that is tasty. Rita Ford is a guitar solo in the middle stage and has a good flavor. Queens Of Noise who decorated the beginning of the second is a song played with the riff of the guitar, and it is deprived of rhythm development that reminds me of the former kiss. It also listens to the fact that the chorus is effectively utilized. You’re Too Possessive is also a song written by Joan Jet. In any case, it is clear that Jon Jet held the leadership of the band at the time. A crazy posture that does not rely on “Cherry · Bom” is gracious, even a refreshing feeling is remembered.

ランナウェイズ78年のニューヨーク公演を収めたサウンドボード音源。ギターにジョーン・ジェットとリタ・フォード、ベースにヴィッキー・ブルー、そしてドラムがサンディ・ウェスト（06年にガンで死去）というメンバー構成だ。冒頭はシングル・カットもされたWastedでスタート。これはいかにもジョーン・ジェットが書いたロックン・ロール・ナンバーとしてファンには馴染み深い。続くBlackmailはファーストに収録されていたミドル・テンポのブルース・テイスト曲で、サンディ・ウェストのドラムがタメの効いたビートを刻む。中盤にはリタ・フォードがギター・ソロで何ともいい味を醸し出している。セカンドの冒頭を飾ったQueens Of Noiseはギターのリフで勝負した曲で、まるで往年のキッスを彷彿させるようなリズム展開に耳を奪われる。コーラスが効果的に生かされている点も聞きものだ。You’re Too Possessiveもジョーン・ジェットの書いた曲で、やや線は細いものの彼女のヴォーカリストとしての資質の高さが随所 でうかがえる。リタ・フォードによる終盤のギター・ソロは奥行のある音色が魅力的に映る。この曲の後で、新メンバーとして加入したヴィッキー・ブルーが紹介される。続くジミ・ヘンで広く知られるWild Thing でも、リタのギターがここぞとばかりに吠えまくる。You Drive Me Wild はファーストに収録されていたジョーンの曲で、ここでもリタのギターが大胆にフィーチャーされている。I Wanna Be Where The Boys Areは来日公演でも披露された人気曲で、コーラス・ワークを生かしたポップ・ソングとして忘れ難い。同じく来日公演でプレイされた American Nightsはファースト・アルバム収録曲。ラストを飾るアンコール曲C’monはヴィッキー・ブルーの地を這うようなベースと、２本のギターが絶妙なアンサンブルを聞かせる彼等の代表曲だ。いずれにしても、この当時はジョー ン・ジェットがバンドの主導権を握っていたことがうかがい知れる。「チェリー・ボム」にいっさい頼らない硬派な姿勢は潔く、爽快感すら覚える。
