ROXY MUSIC in 1976 was heading for dissolution while gaining a foothold in capturing the United States with a single hit. Introducing a special version of the famous masterpiece video of “Beard Ferry”.
The feature of this work is “January 27, 1976 Stockholm performance”. This is a multi-camera pro shot taken in the first act of “SIREN Tour”. 1976 is also the year of the first dissolution, so let’s first look back on that process and confirm the position of the show.
● 1975
・ October 2-23: UK (16 performances)
<< October 24, “SIREN” released >>
・ November 14-December 2: North America # 1 (5 performances)
● 1976
・ January 23-27: Sweden (3 performances) ← ★ Coco ★
・ February 13-March 20: North America # 2 (20 performances)
<< August “VIVA!” Released >>
This is ROXY MUSIC in 1975/1976. In Europe, in addition to his native England, he has only performed three performances in Sweden, and the Stockholm performance of this work was also the final day.
The professional shot taken at such a show is a classic video that has been widely loved from the past, but this work is the highest peak version. This is the Japanese broadcast version featured in the famous program “Golden Western Music Live” of a certain broadcasting association. Quality is what is the highest peak. This program is only in 2006, and if broadcasting is digital, recording is digital. The station master is made into a DVD with complete official quality. As a matter of fact, the sound of the rare song “Nightingale” tends to be distorted (the image remains the best), but looking at the analog curl distortion, it is not a broadcasting accident or recording mistake. It seems that the cause is the Omoto master on the station side.
And speaking of Nippon Broadcasting System, the point is the original production of the program. At our shop, we are archiving a number of music programs with the finest master by a core recording enthusiast, and “Golden Western Music Live” is a regular. It is a type of program that plays famous videos straight, and has plenty of Japanese broadcasting, such as subtitles after Japan with good taste and a commentary corner inviting various guests. First of all, subtitles, which is really nice. Not only the names and song titles of each member are displayed, but Bryan Ferry’s MC is also completely translated. What’s more surprisingly delicious is the brief commentary that goes into each song. Of course, there is no such thing as good or bad songs, and features, recorded albums, hit data, etc. are displayed. As will be described later, there are many songs from the members’ solo albums in this work, which is surprisingly useful.
Another big production is the commentary corner before and after the live. In the case of this work, the corner before the live is smooth, but the one after the live is plenty to see. A different guest is invited every time, but the navigator in this work is a certain music critic “Kon-chan” who introduced ROXY MUSIC to Japan from early on. Although he died himself in 2010, this work is four years ago, and the words that explain the visual concept and the intention of the set are imbued in my heart with a soft and gentle tone.
Aside from that, the protagonist is of course the live itself. Currently, there is a complete sound board for this show, but this work is just a video version. It is a digest of about 47 minutes. Here, let’s organize the contents as well.
● ROXY MUSIC
・ Stranded: Mother Of Pearl / Street Life
・ Country Life: The Thrill Of It All / Out Of The Blue (★)
・ Siren: Nightingale
・ Single: Virginia Plain
● Solo relationship
Phil Manzanera: Diamond Head
Andy Mackay: Wild Weekend
Bryan Ferry: The’In’ Crowd / A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall
* Note: The “★” mark is a song that was also heard on the official live album “VIVA!”.
… And it looks like this. Speaking of live performances during the Eddie Jobson era, the official transmission board “VIVA!” Comes to mind, but only one song “Out Of The Blue” is covered with this work. There are plenty of solo songs by Manzanella, McKay and Ferry, and you can enjoy the rare song “Nightingale” which is only played on this tour (although the distortion of the sound is disappointing).
The finest multi-camera pro shot that is a masterpiece of the “SIREN Tour” where the ferry with a beard moves. It is a Japanese broadcast version that is the highest peak version and has many original productions. “If it was made into an official work and a Japanese version came out …” One piece that made such a delusion into its shape. Please enjoy it carefully.
★ Multi-camera pro shot of “January 27, 1976 Stockholm performance”. The Japanese version, which was broadcast in 2006, has a lot of taste unique to Japanese broadcasting, such as complete official quality unique to digital broadcasting, subtitles after Japan complete with MC and song commentary, and commentary corners arranged before and after the live. It is a video masterpiece with a lot of fun unique to “SIREN Tour”, such as Bryan Ferry with a beard and Eddie Jobson’s feats.
