US 7″ Test Pressing singles of “Hang Fire” & “Twenty Flight Rock”

You all know that the 1981 US tour started right after “Tattoo You” was released.
The album that should be called the digest version album of the US tour is also “Still Life”.
I would like to introduce two test presses that were single-cut from these two albums.
One is “Hang Fire” from “Tattoo You” and the other is “Twenty Flight Rock” which was the B-side song from “Still Life” to “Time Is On My Side”.
In the first place, the test press is a test press as its name suggests, and since it is a test printing board before being pressed, it is recognized as a “forbidden” item for analogs because it allows you to enjoy sounds closer to master tapes.
This time, use the test press to enjoy “Hang Fire” (here, the same “RL” engraved ant as the 7-inch promo), and “Twenty Flight Rock”. You can enjoy the “excellent sound” unique to the test press.
Also, as a bonus track, 3 single hits from “Tattoo You”, US Promo Only STEREO / MONO, and 2 single cuts from “Still Life”, 2 US Promotion Only Stereo / Mono singles, directly from the best disc condition. Reproduced in. First is the STEREO / MONO version of “Start Me Up”. The STEREO version with a sharp cutting by Robert Radwick, you can only listen to it. Freshness of sound, separation of left and right … Everything is truly RL cut! It is a sound quality that makes you want to groan. The next MONO version and “Start Me Up” that you listen to on MONO are finished with ant sound quality, but there is no RL stamp. Next up is the “Waiting On A Friend” STEREO / MONO version. It is a famous fact that this STEREO edit version could only be heard on this promo version and the Japanese version 7 inch, but the MONO version that can only be heard here is the big point. Normally, the MONO side of the US version of the promo-only STEREO / MONO single tends to have a slightly cut-out feeling than the STEREO side, but this MONO version is genuine by Robert Radwick like the A side. It is an RL board with RL engraving. Sonny Rollins tenor with echoing bass and transparency, that’s MONO! !! !! It is no exaggeration to say that any of them is beyond the STEREO side. In addition, we would like to introduce the 7-inch US promo of “Hang Fire” released only in the US, Canada and Brazil. The STEREO side is of course finished with a binging sound with outstanding sharpness unique to Robert Radwick with the RL engraving. The MONO side has no RL engraving, but the bass is perfectly audible. This will cover all the single cuts from “Tatto You”.
After that is Stereo / Mono of the single song “Going To A Go Go” from “Still Life”. For the Stereo version, Bob Radwig, who also cut the US album, is also in charge of cutting on this Stereo side. Powerful and sharp, the sound is a dignified “RL” stamp! The Mono side has no “RL” engraving, but it is a mix that has a bass bing sound that is comparable to the Stereo side.
The Stereo side of the following “Time Is On My Side” also has no “RL” stamp, but it is not an exaggeration to say that it is a purveyor to Bob Radwig and Bob Clearmountain who was in charge of the mix. It is a sharp and soft sound engraved with. And the Mono side has a slightly different orientation and a rounded, in a sense, a gentle sound like the Mono board of the 1960s. This is also engraved with the MASTERDISK engraving (Going To A Go Go is engraved on both sides). With this “Time Is On My Side” promo version, the Stones label promotion-only Stereo / Mono specification 7-inch single version will end.

『Tattoo You』が発売された直後にスタートしたのが81年USツアーなのは皆さんご存じだと思います。
そのUSツアーのダイジェスト版アルバムと言うべきアルバムが『Still Life』でもあります。
そんなふたつのアルバムからシングルカットされた2曲のテストプレスを今回ご紹介したいと思います。
ひとつは『Tattoo You』から 「Hang Fire」、もう1曲は『Still Life』から「Time Is On My Side」のB面曲であった「Twenty Flight Rock」です。
そもそもテストプレスとはその名のとおりテストプレスでありプレスされる前の試し刷り盤なのでよりマスターテープに近い音が楽しめるとあってアナログ間ににとっては“禁断”のアイテムとして認知されてます。
今回はそのテストプレスを使用して「Hang Fire」（こちらにはプロモ7インチと同じく｀RL｀刻印アリとなっています）、そして「Twenty Flight Rock」をお楽しみください。テストプレスならではの“抜群の音”がお楽しみいただけると思います。
またボーナストラックとして『Tattoo You』からのシングルヒット3曲のUSプロモオンリー STEREO/MONO盤と『Still Life』からシングルカットされた2曲のUSプローモーションオンリーStereo/Monoシングル盤をコンディション極上のデイスクからダイレクトに再現しました。まずは『Start Me Up 』のSTEREO/MONOバージョンです。ロバート・ラドウィクによるカッティングが冴えまくりのSTEREOバージョン、これは聞いていただくしかありません。音の鮮度、左右の分離・・・すべてがさすがRLカット！と唸りたくなる音質です。次のMONOバージョンもMONOで聞く『Start Me Up 』もアリの音質に仕上がっています、ただしRL刻 印はありません。さて次に控えてるのが『Waiting On A Friend』STEREO/MONOバージョンです。このSTEREOエディットバージョンはこのプロモ盤と日本盤7インチでしか聞けなかったのは有名な事実なのですが、ここでしか聞けないMONOバージョンこそ大ポイントなのです。通常ＵＳ盤のプロモオンリーSTEREO/MONOシングルのMONOサイドは比較的にSTEREOサイドよりやや手抜き感があるカッテイングがされている傾向があるのですが、このMONOバージョンはA面と同じくロバート・ラドウィクによる正真正銘のRL刻印入りのRL盤なのです。響きまくる低音、透明感溢れるソニー・ロリンズのテナー、それがMONOで！！！どれをとってもSTEREOサイドを超えていると言っても過言ではない『音』と言えるのでは。更にはUS、カナダそしてブラジルだけ で発売された「Hang Fire」のUSプロモ7インチのご紹介です。STEREOサイドはもちろんRL刻印があるロバート・ラドウィクならではの切れ味抜群のビンビンな音に仕上っています。MONOサイドはRL刻印は無いものの低音がばっちり聴こえる最高の音に仕上っています。これで『Tatto You』からのシングルカットを全て網羅することができます。
その後には『Still Life』からのシングル曲、「 Going To A Go Go」のStereo/Monoです。StereoバージョンはUS盤アルバムでもカッテイングを手がけたボブ・ラドウィッグがこのStereoサイドでもカッティングを担当しています。迫力満点かつ切れ味抜群、その音は貫禄の｀RL｀刻印です！Monoサイドは｀RL｀刻印はないものの全くStereoサイドと引けをとらない低音ビンビンの音に仕上ったミックスになっいます。
続く「Time Is On My Side」のStereoサイドも｀RL｀刻印はないもののボブ・ラドウィッグそしてミックスを担当したボブ・クリアマウンテン御用達と言っても過言ではないニューヨークのサウンド工房であるMASTERDISKの刻印がしっかりと刻まれた鋭く柔らかいサウンドとなっています。そしてMonoサイドは一転ちょっと指向が変わって丸みのある、ある意味60年代のMono盤のような優しい音になっています。こちらもMASTERDISK刻印が刻まれています（Going To A Go Goは両面に刻印アリです）。この「Time Is On My Side」のプロモ盤をもってストーンズレーベルのプロモーションオンリーStereo/Mono仕様7インチシングル盤は終了となります。
