The final title was the second day of Hampton, which was also the final day of the entire tour. The live performance in the same area was held twice in 1981, but after all, the first day is a famous performance that can be said to be an eternal item for both video and sound source for Stones Mania, and it is now officially released. .. Above all, there is no dispute that “Hampton” is a live recording that is essential for all Stones fans so much as to refer to those materials.
In that respect, although the second day of Hampton, which was also the last day of the tour, was recorded on a multi-track based on one of the releases, the only song that saw the light of day was “Just My Imagination”. Instead, audience recordings have existed for a long time, and although they have been circulating among traders, the existence of the video and sound source of the previous day is too great to be released. In a sense, it was the final performance in 1981, wrapped in a veil.
It was just 10 years ago that the sound source was released, which is not an exaggeration to say that it was handed down only among such enthusiasts. The title and artwork were received from the prestigious LP “GRANDE FINALE”, which is the best quality version of the broadcast sound source of the previous day, but the content was a limited press CD containing the second day of Hampton, which is a genuine tour finale. is.

Although it was a distant sound image, the release of “GRANDE FINALE”, which was a quality that enthusiasts could enjoy without problems, was epoch-making, but two years later, the 81-year tour on the example “CONCERT VAULT” site This day was included in the mass distribution of rough mix sound sources for radio, so it’s hard. It is said that enthusiasts from all over the world were happy to listen to the CD “GRANDE FINALE”, but for a while, the final day of the tour could be heard on the multi-track sound board.
There was already a tendency for the sound quality and balance of radio recordings to stabilize as the performances continued from Rosemont at the end of November, but if that was the final day of the tour, the recording side would know. Among the many 1981 tour sound sources that appeared in 2013, the sound quality and balance are outstanding, and it boasts a high degree of perfection that you can only feel it as an official live album at a glance.
The 1981 multi-sound source, which has been re-released so far, was prominent in recent Rosemont and Landover, and the rough texture and presence of the two guitars, which are not officially available, were attractive. In that respect, on the second day of Hampton, such roughness has already been adjusted, and after that, if the balance of each instrument was adjusted, it was delivered in an honor student state so that it would be established as an official live album as it is. It’s no exaggeration to say that it was an endless dream for enthusiasts, and it was a wonderful stereo soundboard recording on the second day of Hampton. I wonder if it was this sound source that made mania a lot of madness even in the 2013 distribution.

Also, with the appearance of this sound source, when “Just My Imagination”, which was the only release from the second day of Hampton until then, was recorded on the live album “STILL LIFE”, the parts other than the song were finely trimmed as usual. It turned out that it was also the result. Due to the relentless editing, the performance has been shortened by about three minutes, and the saxophone solo by Ernie Watts, which is the aftermath, is a bold one that is completely cut. The fact that the song, which was too far from the original performance, can be heard completely here also greatly pleased the maniacs at that time.
And with this release, the original sound quality was so good that Graf Zeppelin didn’t have to do much. Rather, we reviewed the cuts that occurred in “Let Me Go” and “Satisfaction”, and adjusted the audience recording of “GRANDE FINALE” from the sound quality to make up for it. This reduces the discomfort when listening with headphones compared to the previous time.

It is wonderful that the performers are released from the pressure of live broadcasting the day before, and even if the conditions of the last day of the tour overlap, they do not feel relaxed and continue to perform with a very high degree of perfection from beginning to end. Only in the opening “Under My Thumb”, Keith’s riffs are uneven, but this may be the result of throwing kisses toward the audience while Keith is playing as on the previous day.
Rather, Keith’s “Little T & A” is sung with a rattling voice. Unlike him now, Keith in 1981 and 1982 had only one song on stage, so it is presumed that there was no burden on his throat, but it is still the last day of the tour. Did that make me tired? One of the highlights is that the scene, which is unusual for this period, is captured with the best sound quality. After all, the whole live shows a perfect performance suitable for the final day, so this scene is even more striking.

Graf Zeppelin監修による1981年アメリカ・ツアーのラジオ放送用マルチトラック・レコーディング再リリースも今回が最後。その締めくくりに相応しく、最後のタイトルはツアー全体の最終日でもあったハンプトンの二日目。81年同地でのライブは都合二回行われた訳ですが、何と言っても初日はストーンズ・マニアにとって映像と音源両方において永遠のアイテムとも言える有名公演ですし、今やオフィシャルでもリリースされている。何より「ハンプトン」と言えばそれらのマテリアルを指すほど全ストーンズファン必須のライブ・レコーディングであることに異論はないでしょう。
その点、ツアー最終日でもあったハンプトン二日目の方はいずれかのリリースを踏まえたマルチトラック収録が行われはしたものの、結局日の目を見たのは「Just　My Imagination」ただ一曲。その代わりにオーディエンス録音が古くから存在しており、それもトレーダー間に出回ってはいたものの、前日の映像と音源の存在が絶大すぎてリリースされずじまい。ある意味ではベールに包まれた1981年最終公演だとも。
そんなマニア間のだけで語り継がれていたと言っても過言ではない音源がリリースされたのは今からちょうど10年前のこと。タイトルやアートワークは前日の放送音源のベストクオリティ盤との誉れ高きLP「GRANDE FINALE」から頂戴しつつ、それでいて内容は正真正銘ツアーフィナーレであるハンプトン二日目を収録した限定プレスCDがリリースされたのです。

遠めな音像ではあったものの、マニアなら問題なく楽しめるクオリティだった「GRANDE FINALE」のリリースは画期的だったのですが、それから二年後、例の「CONCERT VAULT」サイトにおける81年ツアーのラジオ用ラフミックス音源の大量配信の中にもこの日が含まれていたのだからさあ大変。世界中のマニアがCD「GRANDE FINALE」を喜んで聞いていたのも束の間、まさかのマルチトラック・サウンドボードでツアー最終日が聞けるようになってしまったという。
既に11月末のローズモントから公演が続くとラジオ用収録の音質やバランスが安定するという傾向がみられましたが、それがツアー最終日ともなれば収録側は勝手知ったるもの。2013年に登場した数多くの81年ツアー音源の中でも音質やバランスの良さは抜きんでており、パッと聞いただけではオフィシャルのライブアルバムそのものにしか感じられないというほど高い完成度を誇りました。
これまで再リリースされてきた81年マルチ音源は最近のローズモントやランドーバーで顕著だったように、オフィシャルにはないギター二人の荒々しい質感と存在感が魅力となっていました。その点ハンプトン二日目はそうした荒々しさも既に調整されており、後は各楽器のバランスを整えてしまえばそのままオフィシャルのライブアルバムとして成立してしまうほど優等生な状態で配信されたのです。マニアにとっては見果てぬ夢だったといっても過言ではないハンプトン二日目の素晴らしいステレオ・サウンドボード録音。2013年の配信の中においても大いにマニアを狂喜させたのが本音源かと。

また本音源の登場によって、それまでハンプトン二日目から唯一のリリースであった「Just　My Imagination」がライブアルバム「STILL LIFE」への収録に当たっては、例によって歌以外のパートが細かく刈り込まれていたことも判明する結果となりました。その執拗な編集によって演奏は約三分も短くなっており、中でも後奏のアーニー・ワッツによるサックス・ソロに至っては丸ごとカットされるという大胆なもの。元の演奏からあまりにもかけ離れた状態だった曲が、ここでは完全に聞けるという点も当時マニアを大いに喜ばせたものです。
そして今回のリリースに際しては元の音質が極めて優秀であったことから、Graf Zeppelinも大きく手を加える必要はありませんでした。むしろ「Let Me Go」と「Satisfaction」で生じていたカット個所を見直し、改めて「GRANDE FINALE」のオーディエンス録音を音質から調整し直して補填させました。これによってヘッドフォンで聞いた際の違和感は前回よりも軽減されています。

演奏の方は前日の生中継というプレッシャーから解放され、なおかつツアー最終日という条件が重なっても気が緩むことなく非常に完成度の高い演奏を終始繰り広げているのがお見事。唯一、オープニング「Under My Thumb」ではキースの弾くリフにムラがみられますが、これは前日と同様キースが弾いている最中に客席に向かって投げキッスした結果なのかもしれません。
むしろ異彩を放つのがガラガラ声で歌われるキースの「Little T & A」。現在の彼と違って81年や82年のキースはステージでの持ち歌がこれ一曲だけだったので喉への負担は全くなかったのだと推測されますが、それでもツアー最終日ということで疲れが出てしまったのでしょうか。この時期としては異例な光景が最高の音質で捉えられているのも聞きどころの一つ。何しろライブ全体は最終日に相応しい完璧な演奏が披露されているだけに、この場面はなおさら異彩を放ちます。
そしてハンプトンの二日目を完璧な音質で捉えてくれたマルチトラック・ライブアルバム。一連のラジオ放送用ラフミックスの中でも特に高い人気を誇った一日が満を持しての再登場です！
