Rolling Stones A forgotten soundboard album from the 1990 Urban Jungle Tour is fully available on a limited press CD. This tour produced a by-product of the Wembley Stadium radio broadcast in the movie “AT THE MAX”, but there are other television broadcasts of Barcelona performances. This was the only professional shot from the Urban Jungle Tour before “AT THE MAX” was released. However, it was broadcast in Spain and the United Kingdom, which was the PAL area of ​​the video standards of those days, so it took a while for it to spread among maniacs in Japan. At that time, the situation was great when Atlantic City, which had been on the Stones Fever at that time for less than a month from the broadcast, had a video on the market, and even the TV image of Tokyo Dome was sweeping the maniac.
As a result, it was a relatively modern image that was broadcast on television in 1990, but it became a tragic image that maniacs did not recognize. In the video at the time, there were some things that were difficult to downgrade by PAL conversion, and that was also the reason why it raised the viewing hurdle. Moreover, unlike the Atlantic City and Tokyo Dome, the 90-minute incomplete broadcast with some songs cut out seems to have spurred its weak presence.

In any case, it’s a Barcelona performance that has become overwhelmingly maniac despite being a professional shot video, but a few years after the broadcast, it is only between maniacs again, but a little topic I have called. That is the sound board album “LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90” based on the stereo sound of the image. Due to the bad effect of PAL conversion, the performance of Barcelona, ​​which was only available in monophonic audio, was recorded in stereo, which made the mania popular.
However, it’s a sad CD release, and there’s no way for 90-minute broadcasts to go into it, and the big drawback is that three songs will be cut. Because of that, the stereo recording that I have been doing has fallen into a one-handed state, and this ends up being a sound board album that only enthusiasts can recognize, whether good or bad.
However, the sound quality is certainly high in official class. Therefore, the label WONDERLAND, which had recently released a compilation of various artists’ sound sources (although a large number of copies), also copied “LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90” in the box “URBAN JUNGLE EUROPE 1990”. However, it was not just a copy, but the songs that were cut there, and even “Almost Hear You Sigh,” which was only recorded on Spanish broadcasts, were included in the attempt to record the best version. Although it was a wonderful point in itself, there are a few places where the video that was the source of the added song is in poor condition and falls into monaural. On the contrary, the main feature, “Almost Hear You Sigh,” is completely monaural.

As you can see from this, it was in 1990 that Barcelona had been treated like an unfortunate extremity. So, this time we started to create a new definitive version, but the base video itself is completely different from the past releases. “LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90” was a stereo recording from the British version that was aired during the Urban Jungle Tour, but this version will also be broadcast later on Japanese satellite broadcasting (however after a while, Since it was a broadcast of, I didn’t call this topic again). By doing so, a very good quality Barcelona image was produced, and by using it as the base this time, it was possible to realize recording on stereo sound board recording that even exceeds “LIVE ALL OVER ~” lightly. .
Still, the cut songs have been reborn into a fully enjoyable stereo soundboard album that does not have the patchy feel of the Wonderland box. And about the problem “Almost Hear You Sigh”, I got a better copy of Spanish broadcast. Originally, Spanish broadcasts do not have the stereophonic effect as remarkable as the British version, but they are still loosely broadcast in stereo, and they can be enjoyed in a natural state that is incomparable to the monolithic sound of WONDERLAND’s box. Is the point.

A further factor that made the presence of this Barcelona sound source less visible is the fact that the next performance, Madrid’s stereo soundboard recording, leaked at the end of the century. Not only a sound board, but also a big feature called “Blinded By Love” that was shown only in Madrid. It is undeniable that this has caused Barcelona to become even more neglected among enthusiasts.
However, with regard to the performance content, Barcelona is overwhelmingly good. First of all, from “Sad Sad Sad”, it’s a strange run, so it’s a fun thing to do. Originally uptempo songs are being played in a more runaway tone than usual. What can be called even more extreme than that is the “Almost Hear You Sigh”. Mick makes a singing sound that is no longer comparable to Madrid. Furthermore, in Madrid, Keith, who has missed the guitar solo, has a wonderful phrase here. In the first place, in Madrid, there is a tendency that Mick sang quietly in the middle of the show, and the difference in voltage was clear. In other words, the Stones legend that playing and Mick’s songs would be more involved with the video recording was still alive here.
And the sound source of Barcelona sound source is exquisitely mixed, and the guitar balance of Keith and Ronnie is also like Stones. If so, it is a prerequisite that Keith is on the right. Of course, with this release, this point is a solid adjustment. A sound source with a unique mix that highlights the charm of such performances is recorded with the highest sound quality ever. ローリング・ストーンズ1990年のアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーからの忘れ去られていたサウンドボード・アルバムが満を持して限定プレスCDにて登場です。このツアーからは映画「AT THE MAX」にウェンブリー・スタジアムのラジオ放送という副産物が生れましたが、それ以外にもバルセロナ公演のテレビ放送が存在します。これは先の「AT THE MAX」が公開される前においては、唯一のアーバン・ジャングル・ツアーからのプロショット映像でした。ところが放送されたのがスペインとイギリスという、当時のビデオ規格で言うところのPALエリアでの放送だったことが災いし、日本のマニア間で広まるのに時間を要したのです。当時のストーンズ・フィーバーに乗って放送から一か月もしない内にビデオが出回っていたアトランティック・シティ、さらには東京ドームのテレビ映像がマニア間を席巻していた当時の状況も大きかったのでは。
そのせいで1990年のテレビ放映という比較的近代の映像でありながら、思いのほかマニアに認知されない悲運の映像となってしまいました。当時のビデオではPAL変換によるグレードダウンにはいかんともしがたいものがあり、それがまた鑑賞上のハードルを上げてしまう原因だったことも重なります。おまけにアトランティック・シティや東京ドームと違い、いくつかの曲がカットされた90分の不完全な放送というのも、その存在感の薄さに拍車をかけたように思えてなりません。

いずれにせよ、せっかくのプロショット映像ながら圧倒的にマニアックな存在となってしまったバルセロナ公演ですが、その放送から数年が経った後、またしてもマニア間だけではありますが、ちょっとした話題を呼んだことがありました。それが映像のステレオ音声を元にしたサウンドボード・アルバム「LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90」。PAL変換の弊害によってモノラル音声のビデオしか出回っていなかったバルセロナ公演がステレオで収録されていたことがマニアに評判となったのです。
とはいえ悲しいかなCD一枚のリリースであり、そこに90分の放送のすべてが入るはずもなく、三曲がカットされてしまうという大きな欠点が生じてしまう。そのせいでせっかくのステレオ収録も片手落ちな状態となってしまい、これがまた良くも悪くもマニアにしか認知されないサウンドボード・アルバムという位置づけで終わってしまいます。
しかし音質はしっかりオフィシャル・クラスの高音質であることは確か。そこで近年様々なアーティストの音源集大成（ただしコピーもの多数）をリリースしていたWONDERLANDというレーベルが「URBAN JUNGLE EUROPE 1990」というボックスにおいて、やはり「LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90」をコピー。ただし単なるコピーに終わらず、そこでカットされていた曲、さらにはスペインの放送だけに収録されていた「Almost Hear You Sigh」まで網羅してベストバージョンでの収録を試みていました。それ自体は見事な着眼点だったのですが、いかんせん追加された曲の元になったビデオの状態が悪く、モノラルに堕ちてしまう箇所がちらほら。それどころか目玉の「Almost Hear You Sigh」に至っては完全にモノラル。

このことからも解るように不遇の極みのような扱いを受けてきたのが90年のバルセロナでした。そこで今回は新たな決定版を生み出すべく着手したのですが、そもそもベースになった映像自体が過去のリリースとはまったく違う。「LIVE ALL OVER THE WORLD 90」はアーバン・ジャングル・ツアー遂行中に放映されたイギリス・バージョンからのステレオ収録をでしたが、このバージョンは後に日本の衛星放送でも放送（ただしだいぶ時間が経過しての放送だったので、これまた話題を呼びませんでした）。それによって格段に画質の良いバルセロナ映像が生み出された訳で、それを今回のベースとしたことで、何と「LIVE ALL OVER～」も軽く上回るステレオ・サウンドボード録音での収録を実現させたのです。
それでいてカットされていた曲もWONDERLANDボックスのような継ぎはぎ感がない、極上ステレオ・サウンドボード・アルバムとしてフルに楽しめる仕上がりに生まれ変われました。そして問題の「Almost Hear You Sigh」に関してもスペイン放送のベターコピーを入手。元々スペイン放送はイギリス版ほど際立ったステレオ感はないのですが、それでもゆるーくステレオで放送されており、WONDERLANDのボックスのようなガチのモノ凋落サウンドとは比べ物にならないほど自然な状態で楽しめるのがポイント。

このバルセロナ音源の存在感を薄くさせた更なる要因としては、次の公演地だったマドリードのステレオ・サウンドボード録音が世紀末に流出したことが挙げられるでしょう。単にサウンドボードというだけでなく、マドリードだけで披露された「Blinded By Love」という大きな目玉の存在も絶大。これによってバルセロナが余計にマニアの間で軽視されるようになってしまった感が否めません。
ところが演奏内容に関しては、バルセロナの方が圧倒的にイイ。まず「Sad Sad Sad」からして、異様に走り気味だから愉快なことこの上ない。元々アップテンポな曲がいつもより暴走気味な調子で演奏されているのです。それ以上に極め付けと呼べるのが、例の「Almost Hear You Sigh」。もはやマドリードとは比べ物にならないほどの熱唱を聞かせるミック。さらにマドリードではギターソロを外してしまったキースもここではタメを利かせたフレーズが素晴らしい。そもそもマドリードはショーの途中までミックが明らかに声を抑えて歌っているふしがあり、そのボルテージの違いは明らか。つまり映像収録が伴うと演奏やミックの歌に力が入るというストーンズ伝説がここでも健在だったということになります。
そしてバルセロナ音源は音声のミックスが絶妙で、キースとロニーそれぞれのギター・バランスもストーンズらしさに溢れている。となればキースが右であることは必須条件でしょう。もちろん今回のリリースに際して、この点はしっかりアジャスト。こうした演奏の魅力を浮き立たせた独特のミックスが魅力の音源を過去最高の音質にて収録。さらに「Miss You」や「It’s Only Rock’n Roll」におけるコール・アンド・レスポンスの場面で聞かれる観客の合唱のバランスがまた絶妙。もはや完全に見過ごされていた音源が今になってまさかのベストバージョンとしてリリースされます。「こんなに良い音源だったのか？」と驚かれること間違いなし！
