The Rolling Stones 1981 Buffalo, released as a free gift CD-R, was very popular, and there was a constant voice from the side that said, “It’s a really wonderful sound source. Although it is the flow of, it cannot be said that it will not be released on a limited press CD. In the first place, this sound source was the day when the PA out sound board was excavated, and now it seems that it has become a standard, so it was treated as a gift, but on the other hand, the audience of the 1981 tour It is one of the very high quality recordings.
Also, the PA out sound board recording appeared as part of the excavation rush at that time, and was released as “BUFFALO’S ROCK’N’ROLL ANIMALS” from the DAC label. However, the sound quality was particularly rough in the series of SBDs leaked in 1981, and it was still the precious early part of the tour that was playing precious songs that pleased the enthusiasts. Also, since this audience recording that was supplemented at the time of release was used as a mono, it is presumed that it was a process to eliminate the difference with the roughness of the sound of the SBD part.
On the other hand, the DANDELION label (a label different from the later European brand) “BUFFALO ’81”, which is the first release title of this show itself and the only title that has recorded only the audience recording until now. Had a very high pitch and had the problem of incomplete recording up to “Brown Sugar”. Also, it was released almost 30 years ago, and now few people own the item.
Due to these factors, the appearance of the master cassette & complete version of Buffalo 81 that appeared on the net this month was a chance to hit the hidden name audience that would have been overlooked unless it was a maniac. I did.
Anyway, it is a surprisingly on sound image, and the spacious presence and freshness are also wonderful. In particular, the sense of presence is the most sacrificed part of the previous PA out sound source, and it will be a very enjoyable sound source in that the atmosphere of the stadium show held in the afternoon sunlight is firmly transmitted. .. Although the old “BUFFALO ’81” also had the problem that the pitch was too high, the freshness of the sound source itself was still excellent, and it reminds us that it was a sound source that was well worth releasing on CD from that time. ..
In this way, the sound source was at a considerable level from the beginning, but maybe because the taper changed the position, or because the sound output at the venue improved, I heard that the outlook became even better from the middle of “When The Whip Comes Down”. It will be easier. At the time of this press CD promotion release, we made fine adjustments such as slight pitch adjustment to the excellent recording from the beginning.
Even so, the Stones on this day are crazy. Many of you may have realized this when the free gift was released, but it’s amazing how big a group of people holding concerts at the stadium, even though it was early in the tour, was performing so slapstick. Just. Even if it is unavoidable to take 100 steps and perform like that in Philadelphia, the first place of the tour in 1981 (please see the popular “PHILADELPHIA 1981 DAY 1”!), The stage on the third day of the tour But it’s still sloppy. In addition, the sound quality is good, so the slapstick performance is even more striking.
In the first place, even after the band call by Bill Graham at the opening was over, “Under My Thumb” did not start immediately and there was a strange gap. Even in this scene alone, the opening was so sluggish that it seemed like a different band from the official Hampton. The performance itself that started from there has no momentum. Compared to that, “When The Whip Comes Down”, which was the repertoire of the previous tour, has a lot of momentum, but this time there is a problem that the guitar does not sound in the latter half of the performance. This means that not only the band but also the staff were not accustomed to the tour yet.
The ultimate is “Down The Road A piece” which was a rare repertoire of the 1981 tour. Keith and Ronnie still make mistakes on stage (laughs), but it’s strange that Charlie is making a big mistake here. He made a mistake in the timing of entering from the intro, and after all, he made a mistake in the composition of the song and tried to go to the ending alone, so it’s hard. Even Chuck Berry’s songs, which everyone should be good at, are sloppy.
Furthermore, the composition of the live itself has not been decided yet, and the positions of “She’s So Cold” and “Let Me Go” are opposite, and neither of them can be played. As you can see from this, the songs introduced from this tour are basically sloppy (bitter smile). That’s why when it comes to “Just My Imagination” and “Miss You”, which I have played on the previous tour, they are played in a calm atmosphere, and the difference is also interesting.
Even with “Tops”, which was a rare performance only at the beginning of the tour, it is undeniable that Mick is voicing alone, and even the scene where Ronnie and others lose the lead without being able to survive. Furthermore, even “Start Me Up”, which was a symbol of the Stones of 1981, strayed in the middle of the performance.
And although it is the end of the live by audience recording that was not heard in the already released “BUFFALO ’81”, at this point it seems that it was still deciding whether to end with “Satisfaction” or “Street Fighting Man”, and this day the latter Play. By this time, the performance had become quite dignified, and it was a day when the engine started slowly (laughs). Of course, that slapstick feeling is the biggest attraction of Buffalo 81, but it is a masterpiece document at the beginning of the devoted tour even more by this upper version audience. This is a limited press CD release that responds to everyone’s voice!
