The Rolling Stones released the upper version of the theater gig “PALLADIUM 1978” in June from the 1978 American tour, but this time the upper version of the rehearsal that took place in Woodstock before the tour started. Will be released. The sound source that captured the pattern first appeared on the LP, and after that, the CD of the nostalgic “Manga Jacket” appeared for the first time after the LP was dropped, and a few years after that, a rare song was released on “THE WOODSTOCK TAPE 1978”. With the advent of “THE COMPLETE WOODSTOCK TAPES”, where the VGP label unearthed the full-length version of the rehearsal sound source in the latter half of the 1990s, it was decided to be the definitive edition until now, and even a copy of this title has been produced. It was.
However, last year, a lower generation upper version of this rehearsal suddenly appeared on the net. Originally it was a rehearsal that boasted good sound quality with stereo sound board recording, but last year’s version was clear enough to be heard at a glance, and above all, coarse hiss noise was reduced and it became easier to hear. .. This sound source was released by the MOON CHILD label in haste last year, but the sound source that appeared is recorded as it is, and it is made into a CD as it is with a slightly lower pitch to the stereo localization that remains the opposite, and even the duplication of the performance. It was said that it was.
In addition, last year’s upper version sound source had 50 minutes of unrecorded parts compared to the VGP version, and the result was that the low gene copy could not be the definitive version. However, in terms of sound quality, it is also a fact that it is a new version with a clear upper feeling that lightly dismisses the past releases mentioned so far. Therefore, it will be a limited press CD release as a culmination of solving the problems by reviewing the version that appeared last year from scratch.

First of all, in terms of sound quality, we have achieved overwhelming quality improvement of past items such as VGP board (hereinafter referred to as “already-released board”), but we have adjusted a slightly lower pitch. In addition, the localization where Keith and Ronnie were in opposite positions was also corrected. These are the processes that are taken for granted at the time of release. Thoroughly removed the problem that the same part of the performance was recorded with duplication, which was a bigger problem. And the multiple takes created for rehearsal are thoroughly divided into tracks. The instrumental jams that were played everywhere at the end have also been thoroughly divided into tracks to make them much easier to hear.
Not only the unrecorded part that lasted for 50 minutes in question, but also the part that was missing in this sound source was recorded without leaking by diverting the existing board. The part diverted from this existing board is also adopted after remastering and pitch adjustment with the latest technology of 2021. Therefore, it is easier to hear than the existing version, but the difference in sound quality is still clear compared to the main low-gene version. The upper feeling of the version that appeared last year is so remarkable.

When it comes to rehearsals for Stones, isn’t it possible that loose listening hurdles will be raised by putting a ring only on the rehearsals of the band that is sold by nature? You might think that, but with regard to this 1978 Woodstock rehearsal, the performance is so sophisticated that even though it is a volume of 4 discs, it is surprisingly audible. First of all, the first piece is a rehearsal of “Miss You”, which is a huge hit, but it is already highly complete and well-received. On the other hand, Ian McLagan’s electric piano stands out in the first few takes, and it is interesting because it has a slightly warmer atmosphere than the actual performance of the tour. The secret of ease of listening is that the blues jam that appears in the middle stage is not so long.
The second piece has played Peter Tosh’s “Don’t Look Back” many times, which will be the opening act on the tour, but this will be played (or on the premise of co-starring) by ourselves. Was it? However, the second main is a tour that is conscious of returning to the origin, and there is a taste of searching for candidates for their favorite old cover. You can see that I was already trying to incorporate Eddie Cochran’s cover at the time of the 1978 tour, and I am also trying “Hi-Heel Sneakers” which can be called origin return. However, in the end, Chuck Berry’s “Sweet Little Sixteen” was adopted. By the way, Sugar Blue, who played the blues harp in the recording of “Miss You”, appears in this rehearsal, and it is unique that he plays the harp along with the performance in “Jumping Jack Flash”.
When it comes to the third piece, even more amazing early songs are being tried. When the previous “THE WOODSTOCK TAPE 1978” was released, I was really surprised when the scene of trying “Tell Me” and “Play With Fire” was unearthed. On the other hand, it is surprising that “Crackin’Up” and “Crazy Mama”, which can be said to be the remnants of El Mocambo, are being played, but the latter was unexpectedly seriously practiced, so it was initially introduced to the set list. I think I was considering it. Finally, the scene to try Chuck Berry’s “Beautiful Delilah” was not recorded in the upper version sound source, so it was remastered from the existing board.
And the fourth piece is a shocking opening that even the unreleased song “Cocksucker Blues” is tried (blue also participates in the harp) in order to counter the punk that was raging at that time. After that, regular confirmatory performances that are also performed in the tour performance continue, and after the rehearsal of “Memory Motel”, as I mentioned earlier, remastered recording from the existing board. However, the difference with this upper version is undeniable, and you can feel the high sound quality of this version again. I have tried “Memory Motel” many times here, but it will be more than 15 years before it will be unveiled on stage.
And it is full of valuable performances that could not be shown in the actual performance, such as “Let’s Spend The Night Together” which tries a loose arrangement different from Nebworth and 1981, and “Prodigal Son” in the band performance which should be the last surprise of this rehearsal. Not only the rehearsal sound source and the upper version, but also the contents have been thoroughly reviewed and summarized into the best version that has been carefully organized. Come and enjoy it in the second half of your stay home!

(Remaster memo))

★ Channel flipped left and right.

★ Adjusted the pitch by 1.2% overall. By the way, it seems that some of the existing titles were 1.5% to just under 2.0% higher, and the speed gradually changed.

★ In addition, Disc 1 1st song Miss You and 2nd song Respectable, which were duplicated in the original sound source, cut the double sound source toward the end.

★ Several songs (50 minutes) that were not recorded in this edition have been remastered and additionally recorded. The variable and crazy pitch has also been corrected, and the sound is clearly clearer than the original sound source.

先の「THE WOODSTOCK TAPE 1978」がリリースされた際「Tell Me」と「Play With Fire」を試している場面が発掘された時は本当に驚かされたもの。
